No secrets here. Honestly this will be the first diecast I have tried to convert. It may be a slow process because even though I have a bunch of actuators lying around only a couple of them are right for the job. The good thing is it looks like they will work our fairly well when I can get some more in the right sizes and ratios.

Re: RCP Compound

I ran a loooooonnnnngggggg hose up from our garden pump and into the "lake". It took almost 3 full 100' hoses to reach and 3 hours worth of pumping but it's full enough to fill in around the sides with dirt! I measured the depth and it is about 32" at the deepest part to ground level so at it's current level I would say it's at least 2' deep everywhere. When it start raining it should be full nearly to ground level so this should be good. Now I really need to pay attention around the edges because my models aren't water proof!

Re: RCP Compound

Thanks guys. I started to work on the edges tonight but haven't made a lot of progress yet. I think some sort of "lip" will need to be installed in any areas where the road is close to the edge. I definitely don't want any wet models around my pond unless they are of the female variety:jaw::jaw::cool:

As for fish, we tried that before in the big pond. It was a steady line up of birds and mammals in all shapes and sizes dining for free like at a buffet. It sucks because as a fisherman, I love seeing fish.

Re: RCP Compound

how did I know when you said "Counting on rain Monday " was going to turn into 300 feet of garden hose and let's get this done now!
The compound is looking great Reg, keep those creative juices flowing. :D

BTW, you could use the mining rule of thumb .......the road berms must be atleast 1/3rd the height of the largest wheel running on the road.
And that would be a great RC project.:D

I'm always hungry. I guess that's why I don't look like I'm training for a marathon...

Haha, well I really did plan on letting the rain fill it up but after I thought about it some more I decided against that. I started thinking it would take days of rain and I kinda wanted to babysit it as it filled making sure it was folded as neatly as possible in the corners. Doing this in the rain would take forever and get me soaked in the process. I hadn't put away our garden pump for winter yet so I thought I would give it a shot. Considering it was pushing water slightly uphill through 300' of hose it went pretty quickly. I took pictures every 15 min or so of the progress. Not really the most exciting so I only uploaded the start and finish pics. I bought some plastic moisture barrier yesterday and plan to use it in the "creek" leading to the "lake". I figure "Black Creek" and "Brown Lake".lol These names are subject to change...

I plan to do exactly as you suggest Mario for the berms. Along the waters edge I will be adding wooden strips so that I can keep the edge crisp allowing me to get right next to the water with the equipment. The rest will have a dirt or rock berm to prevent rolling down the bank and into the drink. Sounds good in theory doesn't it?

Re: RCP Compound

The constant buffet of fish was what caused the final destruction of my fish pond. I had several 16"+ koi and a blue herring was getting so use to my pond that I could go out on the back porch and he would still not move!! And they are normally taking flight if you get within 100 yards!! Somehow he was able to get those big fish out of water and just leave them to die in grass!! Ohh I was so mad at that bird!! Nice way to put it was getting the Pershing tank out and loading armor pearcing rounds into him!!! Na, illegal to shoot them but he was well fed before he departed to his next buffet!! The whole project looks killer reg!!! Keep up the cool work!!!!

I was up on the roof today blowing out the gutters for the third time in just over a week. I don't know if it is because our summer was so hot and dry or what but the cedar trees really seem to be losing a lot of dead branches:mad:. While I was up there something made me smile and that was the view of my play area so I thought I would share.

I haven't ran the excavator since July and it shows.lol

I found an excuse to bust it out today though. It was "heaps" of fun. Well for about ten minutes. Then I got bored and went back to work...

Re: RCP Compound

Not really anything to do with the compound but my wife and I went to visit some friends of ours up island yesterday. We got to take a Hayes HDX off-highway logging truck for a drive! That was something neither one of thought would ever happen in our lifetimes. After a few trips around the parking lot at the shop we each took a quick drive up the road to see what it was like at speed. I must say that it drives much nicer than the Old Euc we have at home here! I have never been in any other big trucks so I can't say how it compares to anything else but it drove pretty nice. We also had a very good and patient instructor.lol Later in the day I also got a ride through town in the Hayes HD dump truck pictured. All in all it was an awesome day!

I think my wife is more of a natural...
