Re: Great Dane excavating co.
One way to look at it mike, you got some more forced laborers :)
I don't know how many times I've set up the mill to add another hole but setting up this bottom plate every time is getting old!! Hopefully last time!! http://i1357.photobucket.com/albums/...pseje8nxkd.jpg I am starting on the line rigging. http://i1357.photobucket.com/albums/...psjo4yopzw.jpg |
Re: Great Dane excavating co.
Oh and I forgot one, I did forget that the tank should have one suction and two fill lines. So I added the suction line on the bottom.

Yep the green tape about sums it up!:lol:
Looking like she's almost ready to purr! |
Re: Great Dane excavating co.
Lol!! My baseball coach straightened me out with left and right, where's your left? Nope, ouch, now that's your left!! Had a good goose egg on my left leg,, lol,, lesson learned!! I wish teachers were more like that now. ;). I'm out in the garage alone, I need someone to pick on!!!
I'm thinking she should have some oil running through her vinyl veins by the weekend. I may have bitten more than I can chew. I've been flying the little foamies for awhile and been interested in the quads. My wife loves photography and I have been thinking of getting a drone that she can film with. (While I get to fly it). So I also have been looking at upgrading radios for everything. A friend of mine that is pretty competent in heli radios turned me onto a frsky tranais. I can hook it up to computer, set up all the mixes, open source programming , for under $200. 18 channels ect. So I decided to "try" this one out. It was that or going the $$$ spectrum way. A good bit of diggin on my part and once I learn more of the tec stuff I've been told (for all of my needs) that I will be happy. So if it arrives by Thursday and I can be discipline enough to read the ex might be moving on her own by then. |

Hey cooper I think you should put your gauge on the opposite side unless that blank space is for another component but that's just my opinion

I have a Taranis and think its great, you won't be dissapointed, programming is a little tricky to start but once you get the hang of it its pretty limitless as to what it can do. By the way, its only 16 channels unless you add another module, then it becomes 32  Cheers Stu |
Re: Great Dane excavating co.
Guess you can tell how much I don't know about it yet. Lol!!
This is what today's journey netted me , this is the other half I'm my dump truck budget:) http://i1357.photobucket.com/albums/...ps9bv0n3eb.jpg |

This little piece was a pain, don't know if my ruler was acting weird, but after a few measure once cut twice and it's still too short, errors I made it. http://i1357.photobucket.com/albums/...pswmaxpkrf.jpg And very difficult to drill that lower hole. http://i1357.photobucket.com/albums/...psemfzqxzl.jpg Been trying to hide hardware but this one was needed. Had to trim the shoulder a bit http://i1357.photobucket.com/albums/...pswv9vj8aa.jpg http://i1357.photobucket.com/albums/...psyfqvjmiv.jpg And some more mods to the wheelhouse. I have been trying to "plan" for all the wires and electronics so any real estate is not off limits. I don't know if I will do it but I have been thinking of printing a interior that has the on/off switches for cab sticks. The cab was cut down to look more 1:14 scale and I moved the back window up to match the new hood. http://i1357.photobucket.com/albums/...pspwifzifn.jpg http://i1357.photobucket.com/albums/...pssrbiicou.jpg |
Re: Great Dane excavating co.
Wow you are doing a fine job on that. I may copy a few of your ideas if you don't mind my dad has one and we were thinking of doing some mods to it
Great job. Radar |
Re: Great Dane excavating co.
Hopefully they all woke out well radar:)
Well I did it, the new $200 radio came today. Opensource firmware, free range programming :). I've been wanting to get more involved with the tx side of these things and after looking around and planning ahead for the future I got a frsky taranis. I know I will never out grow this. 16channels and an open module bay in back for my spectrum stuff that could net me 32 channels. And it has the sliders on the side that I wanted to control tracks. A software that I can program radio on the computer, run sims, and then just flash it to radio. I know it's going to be a learning curve for me but I've been wanting to streamline my tx/rx stuff and the $30 rx was the way to go for me. So as I learn a bit more I'll try and keep up on my radio progress. http://i1357.photobucket.com/albums/...psmlsuxoej.jpg http://i1357.photobucket.com/albums/...psdh0cguqd.jpg Two things I need to do, add a spring on the throttle stick and lipo battery. http://i1357.photobucket.com/albums/...pslt1u4sjl.jpg http://i1357.photobucket.com/albums/...pssrzdbg0n.jpg http://i1357.photobucket.com/albums/...psocty5d9g.jpg http://i1357.photobucket.com/albums/...psoz5dple8.jpg http://i1357.photobucket.com/albums/...psmv4gztlv.jpg |
Re: Great Dane excavating co.
It's Friday and I should be doing some bill paying work but hey, today is the only day they pay me!! Work all week and only get paid for Friday!?!?? (I tried working before but didn't like it!!). Lol!! Got about another hour of Richard-off 'in then got some work stuff. I spent some time last night trying to figure out how to keep the cab door closed. They used 5/32" magnets to secure it originally. I have some small magnets but just too big so I decided to dig them out. Didn't want to heat the adhesive up as fear of demagnetizing them so mill them out.
http://i1357.photobucket.com/albums/...pspqxmfy4a.jpg Then after getting the second one out I realized I could have just pushed from bottom!! Ugg http://i1357.photobucket.com/albums/...psscchbvjj.jpg Getting closer and going to start on shortening whatever wires I can. |
Re: Great Dane excavating co.
Decided to make new signal wires for whatever I can, lessening the birdnest of wire.
http://i1357.photobucket.com/albums/...psvy1iavyy.jpg And having connectors for the esc's http://i1357.photobucket.com/albums/...psumuajur3.jpg Routing battery wire to on/off switch accessible through cab http://i1357.photobucket.com/albums/...psu1002tjq.jpg I did have to re-wrap the pump lead wires, precautionary. http://i1357.photobucket.com/albums/...psvyrkc7zc.jpg http://i1357.photobucket.com/albums/...psby4v6gdj.jpg And have two supply connectors for lights and fan. If I add a thumb or harvester head(dremell saw) I'll add them later http://i1357.photobucket.com/albums/...psb2oyniyn.jpg And now I'm at the inevitable time of doing the tx/rx set up :( http://i1357.photobucket.com/albums/...psxoh4n1av.jpg http://i1357.photobucket.com/albums/...pshrmv5iob.jpg |
Re: Great Dane excavating co.
Wiring harness looks great but I didn't see a fuse holder in place anywhere!! Sure saves a lot of problems like (letting the smoke out)! With those two batteries you sure could do a lot of arc welding!!!! After smoking a couple of Sabertooth controllers I've installed one in everything I own!!!
Cheers Rob |
Re: Great Dane excavating co.
Does your IPad have a dvd/cd drive?
|
Re: Great Dane excavating co.
If you have any pics of how you set up a fuse I would appreciate it steamer.
No joe no cd drives on iPads, I had it out in garage with me more for posting some pics. I haven't hooked the radio up to the computer. It would probably easier for programming but I just haven't yet. The radio is easy to navigate, the hard part is figuring out where stuff goes. |
Re: Great Dane excavating co.
It already looks like to much paper work already and computer work , I like plug a play or just turn on and go . Mike

Re: Great Dane excavating co.
THESE FUSE HOLDERS ARE AVAILABLE AT ANY AUTO PARTS STORE FOR ABOUT 3 BUCKS. IT WOULD BE EASY TO INSTALL BY CHANGING OUT THAT SHORT RED JUMPER WIRE IN YOUR TERMINAL STRIP BETWEEN THE BATTERY INPUT AND THE WIRES FEEDING OUT. ON MY EXCAVATOR I HAVE A 10 AMP IN AND HAVE ONLY POP'D IT ONCE WHEN I HOOKED A BIG ROCK!

Re: Great Dane excavating co.
Yup, I know what you are referring to steamer, thanks.
Who is familiar or attending the event cabin fever in York, Pa? I'm going there this year, as a spectator or maybe exhibitor. ?? Is this a place to "play" with the toys or more for just showing them? I know the big dragline was there working but would things like my dozer or ex be welcome? I don't know much about this so any incentive or help would be appreciated. Thanks. . |

Re: Great Dane excavating co.
Uhhh, yes, I have been know to be hard headed:( and a little slow :). Lol!! Thanks I know it's a couple months off but planing with what to bring and what is running starts early. So the dozer, hoe, dump trk and the yellow semi would be good to bring? I think with that I probably would still walk away with the comment , ya know I never did get a chance to walk around and see what else is here:) I would be having too much fun trying to discharge batteries as quick as possible :).
So is it like first come first serve? As far as setting up a "pit/show" area? And is electric supply available? Just for charging batteries? |
Re: Great Dane excavating co.
I was there in 2012, the last yr it was held in January.
http://www.rctruckandconstruction.co...ead.php?t=3662 Yes to all your questions above - designated area for the rc group, ac power provided, bring as many of your models as you like, there's tables provided for you to sit down & do any last minute adjustments (bring your own tools)... I flew in to Allentown, Pa, Smallhaul picked me up at the airport & chauffeured me around for the wkend (thanx buddy), I had a Blast, it was a great show to attend. But now that the dates have changed to mid April, that's about when I get busy with a new farming season. |
Re: Great Dane excavating co.
I do remember from a earlier post of yours joe, that I have quite a few events that are in local driving distance. Local as in I don't have to spend night distance. I will start attending them :).
Here is a simple video of first oil. http://youtu.be/WqLC4ramVpA I have another one of tracks running, have to upload it. But before anyone says it's way too fast, yes I know, I have a hot rod excavator, I'll post soon. |
Re: Great Dane excavating co.
looking real great!! what do you think the final weight will be?
start practicing and by cabin fever you will be a pro |
Re: Great Dane excavating co.
http://youtu.be/EcB8OcMRieY
Hot rod excavator lol. I had controls hooked up but a bit wrong. I did change the control pattern to sae (cat). So now I definately will have to put a couple hours of indoor excavating in. ( i.e. Litter box ). Still a bit of work to do. If not finished by cabin fever time it will at leas be working naked. I still have home garage time before real work kicks in so shouldn't be a problem not having logos and new paint ready to be oiled and scratched up. |
Re: Great Dane excavating co.
Just put her on scales rtr she will be A bit under 50 pounds. I was hoping to get in the area of 55-60 but using aluminum and not steel. There is room in battery are to place 1x2x8" chunk of steel if I use the single 8400mah battery. Wonder how much that chunk would weigh? (Have to use calculator for that)

Re: Great Dane excavating co.
Are you going to train Napoleon to operate it ? Mike
|
Re: Great Dane excavating co.
Uhh, lol,, he out grew it a bit ago!! Nose to tail he is like 16" long!!! He is too crazy, would just beat up the equipment!! All hyper and nuts, maybe Great Dane construction should start drug testing employees, I know he is on something- he is all hyper and sleeps a lot!!!
|
Re: Great Dane excavating co.
Ps can't wait till spring , his fuzzy little tail is wanting to go small game hunting with me!!!
|
Re: Great Dane excavating co.
That steel would add another 4-1/2 pounds
|
Re: Great Dane excavating co.
my lowboy should be good for 60 lbs so if you need a transporter I work for peanuts
|
Re: Great Dane excavating co.
Stop feeding him beer nuts . I've seen u tube clips of squirrels loose in a house Man U must have a zoo there . Maybe he wants a buddy? Mike

http://i1357.photobucket.com/albums/...ps9cfjkggq.jpg Inbuilder, I'll be there this year, Friday is set up? If so I'll be there then. Or I'm sure we will be in touch before. I'm thinking I will only need one outlet, for charging batteries. But I'm sure I woulnt need it for more than 10-15min at a time. I charge the bats I have at 20 amps, makes quick time of charging :) |
Re: Great Dane excavating co.
Can you still handle him ? Or is he to wild ? Mike
|
Re: Great Dane excavating co.
Yes he is quite the house runner!! He knows where the one plant that is a hanging basket is in the master bathroom, runs there all through house and digs in it!! Then will take laps on top the couch and behind, back to kitchen, grab a nut and head to the top cabinets!! Yes I have the step stool never put away because I have to catch him or suffer the nut debris left on top the cabinets. Long pants and sweatshirt whenever cage is open. He actually plays with my hands, bites fingers (not hard but like a dog play bite) and jumps and just flips out!!! Usually try not to handle the wild animals too much but he is not able to be released till warmer weather and needs to run.
Ugg, ya know its time to stop before parts go flying,,,, I was making the contacts for fan in hood. Making it held on with magnets and brass contacts for power to hood. No wires when removing hood to change batteries. And I don't have m2 taps so I was guessing at hole size. First was too tight, second was snug. I was just screwing a screw in without tapping, it's plastic so no biggie. But I knew it was tight and figured I would toss the threading screw afterwards. Well one more turn before bottoming out the head and then the head stripped!!! Dahamm!!! I knew I should have drilled one more time bigger!! Now the part that I had about two hours into figuring out and machining is junked!!! Ohh I hate that when you know you should be doing one more thing and try to shortcut!!! Well next part wouldn't take as long and probably be better as I know what I want!! Uggg!! Time for bed !!! |
Re: Great Dane excavating co.
Just watched the video of the excavator track drives...
no excuse for being late to the job.. what motors did you use ? I want to speed mine up a little as the stock ones are too slow. I guess you can change the end points to slow it down a little on your motors. I also like the tubeing on your arms , much nicer than stock .thats my next job on mine. cheers andy |
