Looks like it's going to shape up to a really great looking dump. Got me thinking I may have to start dabbling in dump trucks! Keep up the great work.:D

Great job Mario. This will be a really good add-on for the dump boxes I am building. I hope this project is as much fun for you as it is for me! Keep up the great work!

Thanks, seems like dump trucks and day cab work is popular right now. lots of great dump truck builds. no need to dabble, jump in! the water is warm :D:lol:

thanks Brian. The Pete is definitely my crown jewel build.......For now! :D:lol:

Small update on the dump truck.
Staying with the work truck theme instead of show stopper. Im trying the look of some black light bezels from Russ for this build and had a chance to check out the look on the truck. I love them!:D . installed on the tail plate they look like the rubber mounted lights on a work truck. Planning on installing some on the box side corners also.

Thanks. I'm going to use the stock stacks with PMD turnout ends as shown in post #425. Once I get the cab mounted I will trim them down and will be a lot shorter.

Thanks Keith. I just realized my biggest hurdle is going to be the paint job! It's the middle of winter, don't want to paint in the basement and no heat in the garage:eek: I might try it at work but the air is so filthy there I know it will be almost impossible to have dust free:(

Thanks Reg. The plate is perfect to work with. The light bezels fit it perfect:D

Glad to hear you like the service truck idea:D no rush though. I have an entire backyard that needs a Rc makeover this spring so, funds go there first!

I would hold off on paint till spring when you can get it the way you want it without having do redo it... hate to see you get a aggravated at it cause of a run or something... looks good the way it is so I'd say it can wait a little longer. .

build is looking great!

Kaf343 01-11-2014 07:00 PM

Re: S&M Trucking open for bizz nizz !!!

Yeah, I agree with Aaron. There is nothing worse than shooting the paint just to get it done and then not be happy with it, I've got three cabs right now that I just stripped and are on deck waiting to painted again.

Truck is looking great, gonna be a nice addition to S&M trucking.

As much as I hate to admit it......your right Aaron and Keith . Best to wait till spring:(
Heck, it might take me till then just to figure out how to make everything fit inside the cab!
The plan is rather than fill the opening in the back of the cab with styrene, I want to mount a aluminum plate ( anchored to the cab floor plate, not the cab ) The rookie window will actually be where the rectangle speaker I have mounts and hoping enough room below for the 2 ESC 's . Servonaut sound board under the hood....now just gotta fit the battery, receiver and light module :eek:

dabears 01-11-2014 09:57 PM

Re: S&M Trucking open for bizz nizz !!!

What tanks you gonna run? just an idea BUT even if you get custom tanks from like Russ or Steve have them not glue the caps on drill 2 holes on back side twards frame. Find 2 smaller 1600 MAH batteries then cut plugs off, send wires thru holes then up to the cab where they connect together to make 1 3200mah battery that has a switch... then go even farther do like I did on the globe get 3 position switch battery in middle charge lead on one side and truck power on other side... flip right (or left) and bypass truck and just charge batteries, flip other way and drive away. it'll save you some room in that cab.. Just an idea.
you could even put esc or receiver in your step boxes depending on which ones you use too. if you look at the blue dump travis used aeromax tanks I think maybe they are knight hauler and glued the batteries under it.

Supermario 01-12-2014 11:33 AM

Re: S&M Trucking open for bizz nizz !!!

I was planning on using the stock tanks but now that you mention it, that's a great idea for freeing up some cab space. The ESC's are small. ( same as the ones in my loader as a matter of fact ) I think it would be money well spent to buy some custom tanks. Thanks!

I'm on the rc4wd site right now. Going to pull the trigger and order this light system. It's small and has some decent options and cheap to buy.

http://store.rc4wd.com/Auto-Hazard-L...er_p_3132.html

I think the charge port is a great idea to minimize opening the truck all the time but when you want to play for more than a charge cycle it's nice to throw a fresh one in, throw the old on charge and keep on trucking!

dabears 01-12-2014 01:54 PM

Re: S&M Trucking open for bizz nizz !!!

See that's what nice about having more then one truck. When one goes on the charge the other gets driven. You could do stock tanks like i have on the blue dump just put quick connect on batteries and use velcro instead of double sided tape. This way you could still swap out for fresh batteries if need be?

This thing may be a better alternative to RC4WD's one

It provides turn signals, breake light, front light, beacons...

Only con is, that I'm not sure about the shipping costs...

Small update on my crappy dump truck build compared to some of the great ones being built right now:o if it wasn't for Reg's box I probably wouldn't even post it:eek::lol::lol:

had an idea for the aluminum back cab plate im using. it will be secured to the floor and not the cab so i thought of doing this....

you got a rock problem Craig? not to worry, I got a dump truck to take care of that!:D
Glad you like it. I'm hoping to get more done on it soon!:bounce:

cant work in my space right now. new furnace installed yesterday, now have to complete studding walls, wiring, insulate and vapour barrier so everything is kinda clumped together in the middle.:(

So on a different note I wanted to share pics of what I do when im not home working on RC stuff.......

this is a rear frame section of a underground scoop after complete tear down and stripped to bare bones. it gets sandblasted , welding repairs, machining, painted. Same happens with front frame.
http://i1174.photobucket.com/albums/...sdd68ea62.jpeg

then the reassembly begins...

and a few of a dozer from the steel plant coal yard, in for a new engine, torq and tranny.

Wow Mario how long did take to tear down tgat mining scoop to bare frame? And how does the labor rate on that work? Manufacturers book time I'm assuming?

When all goes well the machine is stripped in a week. Complete job takes about 8 weeks start to finish and complete certified rebuild, with new serial number and full warranty. Costs around 400K.

Machines are done and have all decals on them and bucket installed. I'll get some pics of them and post next week.

Small update on the dump truck. Finally got a chance to try a few ideas with how to arrange everything inside.

I'm just wondering if having the receiver close to the speaker magnet is going to be an issue?? otherwise, so far so good. Next is a mount for the servonaut sound board.

thanks for looking and all comments.:)

Kinda reminds me of my S10 pickup...except there the subwoofers point into the cab from the box, not into the box from the cab:rolleyes::eek:. My guess is that it will sound a lot different with the box up or down but it should work!

Thanks big john. The blue is still the original colour from when I bought the truck. Once everything else is done I'm thinking black with some silver accents of vice versa.

So the truck is really coming to life now! It's been a great weekend of RC work ( about time as Reg said :p)

My first non MFU type sound unit. I first purchased way back when with plans to install in my loader but after getting tired of trying to make it fit I think it works fine in the truck. I like the fact that I can rev the engine while raising the box.

Check it out!

NICE! What sound unit is that?

Supermario 03-03-2014 05:48 AM

Re: S&M Trucking open for bizz nizz !!!

The sound unit is the Servonaut SMT. It's the cheaper sound module that Servonaut offers. Has no turbo sound but I'm ok with that. Once a few forum members helped me out with the German translation the unit is very easy to install. All plug n play.
