Re: Hauling Dirt out of my basement (present day)
Looks like it would take a few hours to wear those buckets out Joe ! They must weight a few pounds..
greg |
Re: Hauling Dirt out of my basement (present day)
Not that heavy at all Greg.. it's all made from 20guage. ;)
Most of it is still there yet RT9. :p I made the steel bushings in my lathe to fit the 6mm rod.. weld in the bushings & front rod tomorrow, then paint 'em both. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...2012/001-7.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...2012/002-2.jpg The GP bucket is 50% larger than the kit stock bucket, almost as wide as the 740 box. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...2012/003-4.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...2012/006-4.jpg I wondered after making such a big bucket if it might be too big.. but even with the hoe sitting at a tilt, a bucket full didn't even make the outside track jiggle. (I filled the counter weight full of BB's last week, didn't weigh it though) http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...2012/008-4.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...2012/012-3.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...2012/004-4.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...2012/014-2.jpg |
Re: Hauling Dirt out of my basement (present day)
No :( Apparently he's having swing issues with the worm set up :( . I did like Ed's when I ran it at cabin fever  world of difference in hydro setup . I just realized I got a small precision casting co down the street from me . They cast a broad range of mtrl. : cast iron , steel , brass , alum ,etc . My wheels are turning ;) and with some hydros on the way , who knows  . The buckets look great . you should have that pile outa there in no time with the right size truck ;)

Re: Hauling Dirt out of my basement (present day)
Looks good Joe, the bigger bucket will speed things up before the spring time rush. springs not that far away now and the dust will be flying soon.

I used a metal etching primer too! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...2012/028-1.jpg I made a couple vids this week.. Travis & IHStevie, pay close attention to the wheel speed of the front vs back tires of the Komatsu when it's back blading from the pile at low throttle with the front axle in the air. ;) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1GDwB-EeyWo 850 screening the wet lumps, then the adt stock piling the wet lumps behind the water heater.. had to use the board to climb the pile, trying to climb loose soil that steep, the adt just digs a hole.. getting it piled quite high back there. http://youtu.be/15xwKUVjyBw This big bucket is about 50% larger than kit stock.. move alot dirt quickly, especially from the far wall where it's quite a confined area to maneuver within. http://youtu.be/PvlvZXwxIqo |
Re: Hauling Dirt out of my basement (present day)
Hey Joe, It amazes me, how abrasive clay really is! You may just have a super shiney bucket in no time at all.

"Travis & IHStevie, pay close attention to the wheel speed of the front vs back tires of the Komatsu when it's back blading from the pile at low throttle with the front axle in the air. "
I not sure what your trying to prove here  if it goes to the gear motor verse diff. drive train argument . yes , it works very well from what I can see . from a model production stand point , it makes sense to use gear motors (less parts to make ) travy and I are NOT mass producing . If I were to , I'd go gear motors to . having said that , I think it's foolish to compare a personal built model to a mass produced model If you want to compare wedico to stal , you got a case thats apples to apples . Yes , I thought about it , but the need to escape from truck part making , put the brakes on that idea ;) . OTOH , great job on your buckets . I always said ," an excavator is worthless with a small bucket in mass excavation " I had a 4' bucket on my Cat 307 (16,000# machine) As always I enjoy watching your vids :) |
Re: Hauling Dirt out of my basement (present day)
Hello Joe,
That was some fine loader work in the video, nice control and very realistic looking. You can tell from seeing the loader work that there are hours of experience behind the sticks. Steve. |
Re: Hauling Dirt out of my basement (present day)
Your loader sure can move a lot of material in 15 minutes!!! Awesome videos! Are you going to paint the cylinders on the 850?

wdc to Stahl is not apples to apples... http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys/s...forum/stop.gif Well, different buckets for different jobs. That wide bucket with it's straight cutting edge will be great for grading as well. And I'm eagerly looking forward to trying that narrow bucket to dig on the wall, might be a lot less use of the ripper before hand. ;) Thanx Steve.. yes, many hrs of practice & enjoyment. One of these days yep RT9, I'll probably brush paint them black while still attach to the model. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...2012/003-5.jpg |
Re: Hauling Dirt out of my basement (present day)
Well I really can not say much for either , I don't have them or run them  the diff / gear motor argument will go on forever . IMHO , wedico could've put a little more thought into the drive train . Leibherr model's 2plus2 seems to be well thought out . Yea I could just use gear motors /wheel in my models and make life easier  . But , I love the challenge to get as close to real as possible and function well also . You should do well digging with the little bucket ;) . You may still need the ripper for the occasional rock .

Re: Hauling Dirt out of my basement (present day)
So I put my tireless working 6wd GL on the workbench for a tune up..
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...2012/001-8.jpg Added some weight to the front axle, and added an extra fuel packed full of BB's, transfer more of that power to the ground! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...2012/003-6.jpg Off to the basement for a trial. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...2012/005-6.jpg The white GL pulled the B Train up the ramp with open diffs with very little slippage, but the HiTec 625 steering servo couldn't handle the extra weight hanging out in front of it & caused the rx to glitch like crazy whenever I tried to turn sharply. So I then installed a HiTec 645, as well as Castle Creations BEC.. these Tamiyas are so easy to work on. :) http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...2012/006-6.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...2012/008-5.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...2012/010-4.jpg Testing it out on the bench, trying to go forward and the shift servo glitched crazily! didn't matter where I plugged the CC BEC rx lead into.. junked the Polk radio from this trk and used my extra DX8 rx.. trk is working better than it has ever before! Very smooth! Love these Spektrum radios. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...2012/013-2.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...2012/014-3.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...202012/015.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...2012/016-3.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...2012/017-3.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...2012/018-2.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...202012/019.jpg http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rc4EmuKaL |

so joe where is this new machine you got in a box from frank:D

Re: Hauling Dirt out of my basement (present day)
Hey Joe ,that wieght bar should give you some nice grip on the front:cool:
I used some small used and worn out carbide seats I use in the pumps I work on at work ,in my bruder excavator for counterwieghts, works great! Keep up the great work !!:D Tommy |
Re: Hauling Dirt out of my basement (present day)
Joe your a inspiration to everyone that is looking to get into the construction gear, thanks for sharing the pic's and info...
When you start doing the next round of servicing on the construction gear can you do a side by side comparison the good and bad of each piece in a new thread if you haven't done it yet??? |
Re: Hauling Dirt out of my basement (present day)
Hey Joe, Can't get the video to work:(
Have you considered a combination ripper/bucket? http://leattach.com/raptorbucket.html :D:D:D I like the heavy bumper:D Will there be some shed's moved with the globeliner soon?:p:eek::D Cheer's, Neil. |
Re: Hauling Dirt out of my basement (present day)
Still in the box Neil.. might start working on it this summer after the crop is planted. :D
Yes it is working very well Tommy, better than having servo lockable rear diffs in the past. Thank you and your welcome Tracy.. what specifically would you like to know? |
Re: Hauling Dirt out of my basement (present day)
Interesting design Neil.. one problem I see for me making this in scale would be that it might pack with clay too easily.. find out here shortly if the narrow bucket I just made will empty good or just build up with wet sticky clay.
It was working.. here's another link. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rc4Em...1&feature=plcp Might add three more bd's sometime in the future.. |
Re: Hauling Dirt out of my basement (present day)
Ok, I'll work on another idea for you later tonight!
Cheer's, Neil. |
Re: Hauling Dirt out of my basement (present day)
You are moving many scale yards of dirt each load Joe... Any idea how many pounds in each trailer ? Very impressive ! !

Re: Hauling Dirt out of my basement (present day)
Hey Joe, Infomation overload!
http://leattach.com/multiripperbucket.htm http://leattach.com/dignrip.htm http://leattach.com/multiripperhicapbucket.htm http://leattach.com/stagbucket.htm http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature...&v=dITT4uu9VYc http://www.kenco.com/SLASHBLADE.html http://www.werk-brau.com/VLineStrata...tyBuckets.aspx http://www.mainlinetrack.co.nz/400mm-spade-bucket/ http://www.mainlinetrack.co.nz/jb-spade-bucket/ Or put a spade nose on a regular bucket and vary the digging angle for agressiveness. 20 year's ago, there used to be single shank ripper's, that slipped in a "pocket" welded to the back of the bucket, removable and usable. Have'nt seen any for a while. I guess the vegas trip's are coming in handy! Cheer's, Neil. |
Re: Hauling Dirt out of my basement (present day)
Not sure Greg.. stock bucket, lead trl is 5 buckets & pup is 7 buckets.. I crushed the last of it last night, next time around I'll try loading a pail with 12 scoops and weight it. ;)
Alot of interesting designs there Neil, it'd be great to get those style of teeth in scale form. I tried my narrow bucket today, didn't work as well as I hoped... more experimenting.. two teeth on the edges or just one in the middle (too bad I welded them in :() I carved an entry ramp into the wall and the 850 climbed back onto the wall itself. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MkjnL...ature=youtu.be |
Re: Hauling Dirt out of my basement (present day)
I got a sweet accessory for my JD850 from Kalle (Azonic), something he designed & had some one cnc for him. It's available through him.

Re: Hauling Dirt out of my basement (present day)
Thanks for sharing Joe, great video!
Does it take 7 secs to engage the coupler? |
Re: Hauling Dirt out of my basement (present day)
Very cool, I bet that is a prety good time saver for you.
|
Re: Hauling Dirt out of my basement (present day)
Way to go Joe:D:D:D I like the coupler! I have to put up with a manual one on my Cat 305CCR. I seldomly use the ripper, more than 5 minute's at a time.
Alway's swapping attachment's:p I'll have to think about teeth and get back to you. I counted 17 attachment's for both the hoe and skidsteer today, still don't have enough:eek:LOL! Is that the go pro camera on your hoe? Take's nice video! Cheer's, Neil. |
Re: Hauling Dirt out of my basement (present day)
Kalle, I'm counting to myself (1001, 1002..), maybe I'm counting too fast.
Not sure if it is FB, it's a bit of a knack to line up just right and the ripper has no mass or weight to it and will tip over easy.. I usually toss that on by hand. :D I used my narrow bucket quite a bit last night Neil, works a little better for carving against the wall than the stock bucket, but I still can't help much with that V shape off the wall.. gotta make some side cutters next! Is there a rule of thumb at what degree they come off the side or anything else? Yes it is a GoPro. ;) |
Re: Hauling Dirt out of my basement (present day)
So I made these side cutters this afternoon.. are they too big?
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...rker/001-1.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...rker/002-1.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...rker/003-1.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v150/protrker/004.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v150/protrker/005.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...rker/006-1.jpg |
Re: Hauling Dirt out of my basement (present day)
They might work but an 1/8 in plate bolted flat to the bucket with the edge ground to a 60 deg angle would be closer to scale.
Travis |
Re: Hauling Dirt out of my basement (present day)
Hey Joe, the side cutter's that I use a little bit flatter than your's, but go for it and have fun! As for teeth, I'm still scratching my head, I wonder if a split shank could be soft soldered on? With the size capscrew's on your sidecutter's, they may work for bolt on teeth like what skidesteer bucket's use. http://thomasnet56.reachlocal.net/vi...hl/gehl-teeth? http://www.constructionattachments.c..._on_teeth.html http://www.augerteethonline.com/bucket4.htm
Single sided teeth, silver solder may hold better than soft solder. I'm still trying to figure out something tougher than key stock for making teeth? Just like Karate Kid, torch on-torch off, LOL. Need more idea's, Just ask, & I'll try to help. Cheer's, Neil. |
Re: Hauling Dirt out of my basement (present day)
2 Attachment(s)
Hey Joe, picture's of the sidecutter's and one of the bucket's that I modified,
The outside shank's are out too far. And the sidecutter's won't work because of it. I'll know better, next time I change teeth and shank's on a trackhoe bucket. I remove alot of concrete, so I upgraded to bigger backhoe shank's. Yes Travis, those are Cat DRS 230 series shank's-420 backhoe. Cheer's, Neil. |
Re: Hauling Dirt out of my basement (present day)
My side cutters are sorta working to trim the side of the wall, but would have worked better as I was digging the base, I have more hyd power than swing & the hoe isn't heavy enough to take side loads.
Perhaps I'll give a go with your 1/8 plate idea Travy on my stock bucket for cutting side walls better. ;) I put the KH dump work bench today after a shooting a movie with the gopro on it, the steering was becoming more erractic than ever & that Polk radio is super glitchy too. The KH dump trk was the last trk on the Polk system.. those radios are going into the burning barrel! Much to my surprise after taking apart the KH front end, a whole bunch plastic fell out! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...rker/002-2.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...rker/003-2.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...rker/005-1.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...rker/004-1.jpg The GWS servo is original to the trk when I built in 1996! Although I didn't really use it until 2006 when I started backfilling the east wall.. but still, broke the top off the servo!!! I put a HiTec 645 in there now. :) With the DX6 radio I only have two 2pos switches, so it's 2nd & 3rd only, till my Robot Marketplace order shows up in a couple wks with a DX7 radio. :( Ready for work again. :) http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...rker/006-2.jpg http://youtu.be/apCN2aSKxz8 |
Re: Hauling Dirt out of my basement (present day)
Joe the DX8 is being offered right now with the 8 ch receiver and two extra 6ch receivers for free but if you have already ordered the DX7 I guess it is a little late for that.
I will try and get you some good pics this week of a couple different buckets with side cutters. Travis |
Re: Hauling Dirt out of my basement (present day)
Another great video! It sure is quite a tour on the truck!
|
Re: Hauling Dirt out of my basement (present day)
Hey Joe, even the full size hoe's can have problem's with side cutter's. You may try something shaped more like a single tooth in place of them. Or try sharpening them like a wood chisel, might be a tad "dull". I've seen boom's break, from being sideloaded.
Please post a picture of your "vee" bucket'' http://www.werk-brau.com/VLineStrata...tyBuckets.aspx With the vee bucket's, they stand them up 90' to the dirt to cut level or square, raking motion. Would that help with shaping the wall? 6 year's out of a servo, is that a new record for rc trucking?, in an open pit mining situation! Scale wise that truck has probably moved 250,000 scale cubic yard's!!!!! No cow's this year?:p:eek: More time for rc stuff:D:D:D Cheer's, Neil. |
Re: Hauling Dirt out of my basement (present day)
Is that advertised through Hobby Horizon? Looks like maybe $70 savings.. :(
Not really Neil. I've been using a pic axe to trim a 90° cut right next to the wall as I cut each layer. This last cut is down to floor level now, so I'll be able to face the wall directly to trim it straight down. I intend to dig the holes for the posts with the 850, make a 5" width trench for 8 feet length along the floor, as deep as the 850 can reach. I usually put the 10' length 4x4 posts 30" into the ground.. I'll have to measure what the 850 can do. |
Re: Hauling Dirt out of my basement (present day)
nothing wrong with those side cutters Joe . They kind of look like the modified 1's on the 30 " bckt on the 307 cat I had . No pics though :( . they worked real well ;) It's hard to get a 90 * wall when your not digging parallel to the cut with the bckt .
Neil , I got 416 shanks on my 303CR ;) I never liked those bolt ons  I weld the outer 2 on a slight angle outward to help with the resistance in digging a trench . |

Joe, I see a Wedico pump under the dump truck. Just wondering if you've any issues with it. Going to use two pumps for the 789, one for each cylinder with one common oil tank.
By the video it looks to work very well. Rob |
