Haha! Yes I have been twisting my brain between a D8k and a TC12. I want to do the Cat but I really like HiLite green:D!

I did a little size comparison today...

Re: Kenworth 850 Off Highway

One more update for the big Kenworth...

I bought some 3mm battery operated Xmas lights pretty cheap at a store a week ago. They aren't LED but I have to admit that in some situations I prefer the old school lights better anyway. While I was lighting the clearance lights up I also added the head and marker lights onto the same pico switch. Now all the lights can be switched off via remote...All of the lights are running off of a 6v BEC.

Atta boy! Love the lights. I agree, in some cases the old fashion incandescent bulbs work and look better. Plus no resistors needed, if the voltage rating matches your battery pack. The warm white LEDs do, however, simulate the warm look of a white incandescent better then a cool white LED.

Thanks Nate. Now I need to change out those cool-white LED's in the headlights as they don't look very 70's vintage!

I agree with your decision and the older style lights on the 850. More yellowish headlights and then your set :D Are you leaning towards more logging equipment or are you going to look for a pal for the euclid.

Haha. I had a comment about headlights and purring but I should keep that to myself... She did say that I could keep the KW in the house but I think she would find it weird if it was in the bedroom...\it does light things up pretty good though!lol

Merry Christmas to you and your family as well Greg! I hope to see you in a month or so.

Those lights look awesome man!!!

I have a question....how did you attach the "glass" in the truck and your excavator ??? ( I have a "cab" and don't have a clue how to put the windows in it... )

RCP57 01-03-2014 12:17 AM

Re: Kenworth 850 Off Highway

Thanks KP. I'm ready for next years Xmas parade now! I guess I should take the time to light up the pee-wee truck too...:(

The windows are just cut oversize and glued in place with the exception of the windshields on the Euc and KW. They actually use the rubber to hold them in with a little glue for added security. Pain in the @++ to put in though....

DADSGARAGE 01-03-2014 12:44 AM

Re: Kenworth 850 Off Highway

Alrighty then....so it's a "good time" putting windows in (thought so)...that's a drag...LOL...did you use CA ??
( I knew I shouldn't have put window cut outs in the cab....LOL )
I really was hoping to avoid glue....but I also didn't want to see any fasteners either....what to do, what to do....not like you can see any fasteners on my stuff already...heehee...

Oh OK...so that answers two questions...what CA means and...stupid..lol

Yes, some sort of super something...Zap it??? I forget... Just some glue I buy at the local hobby shop. It seems to be really strong as long as there is no flex or impacts.

Re: Kenworth 850 Off Highway

"CA"....Cyanoacrylate...("crazy glue")...works great for building balsa airplanes etc...(oops sorry forgot you weren't an aiplane guy)...not sure how it would work on metal

No snow here eh!lol Kind of scary actually. No snow in the hills around here at all!
It was warm here today for sure. Barely a breath of wind and sun, sun, sun! Too bad I was inside most of the day...well, come to think of it not really...I had a good excuse to be inside:D.

Haines Junction, Yukon was over 13C today. 9C warmer than Orlando FL(4C) according to the news at lunch. Strange weather for sure!

I hope the north island boys have a strong table to display this setup on!Oh yeah and it better be at least an 8 foot table too!

Re: Kenworth 850 Off Highway

Looking good Reg. I'm going up tomorrow to set up the tables so we'll make sure that we have an 8 footer set aside for you and we can double plank it if you like. Are you here for both days or just one?

Sounds good Rob. The truck, trailer and excavator are around 100lbs so I'm sure the table will be strong enough. The tricky part will be trying to fit it in our car...
I will only be there for Saturday. I had planned to stay for both days but I keep falling behind in the shop so I best get some work done on Sunday:cop:!

Joe, I have never attended this show before but I don't think anyone was thinking the weather would be this nice in January:jaw:.

Haha, sounds good Wayne! You coming for a visit that is.... You best bring your shorts because it will feel like summer here compared to there! It has been quite dry here(roughly 40% less rain since October). They are already talking about water restrictions on the news. Very little rain and no snow is going to make for a very dry summer if things don't change. I'm not saying that I want to experience -30c though either!

I remember going camping with my parents up the north end of the island and going on a logging road to a place called devils pond and coming around a corner and meeting a truck like this. Dad came to a stop so did the truck and we were looking at the font back axle of the massive truck. Brings back lots of memories love the look at the build. I sure got lots of ideas for my build

Thanks Nate, We haven't had any amount of snow here for a couple years now. It seems every time the rest of the island gets some it misses us. Don't tell anyone though because there's already too many people moving here...

I brought the real truck out today to haul around the toys. I thought this was a good way to show the size difference. The lowbed isn't even as wide as it should be for scale width. I was a little nervous driving the Hayes on and off of the trailer but it was actually fairly easy. The Hayes goes slow very well...The KH, not so much.
