Just a video on the garage floor for now. I've got a few glitches to figure out, before I can send it out to work!

I had time this weekend to run it a bit. I've decided to scrap the current version & start over. I didn't even get a full battery pack through it, & had issues. The drive axle in the Tamiya gearbox doesn't hold up well. It keep flexing, & slacking the tracks. Also, it would frequently bind up, & briefly quit driving.

Hi Anthony

That is what the hobby is all about try it see if it works if not change it and move on.
I'am sure it will be better for another revision and new ideas.:D
Looking forwards to seeing it progress.:)

I'm NOT sure if it'll show up, but here's a few pics of the Tamiya Xmish after I got one with it.
The Small blue gear ONLY has 3 teeth left on the whole gear!

Since I already have this one chopped up, for the way I intended to convert it, a little more chopping won't hurt.

I intend to try micro METAL geared servos to drive the sprocket cog, that turns the tracks.

As promised, here's the SHORT vid of it on the garage floor.

I found a micro HiTech metal geared continuous servo, that's compatible with the 24 teeth servo horn. RobotShop.com offers the servo, & servo horns that I'll try and use for the next attempt to power this thing. The brand new Bruder D5 chassis should be here tomorrow, or the next day.

Yes sir, I hope the next version is better as well! :o

I went thru no less that 5 variations on my Oliver diecast conversion. I started with servos, went to micro gear motors and have finally ended with mini planetary gear motors and it working really well.

Keep at it, if nothing else (like me) you will learn something you can apply to some other project.

I don't mind seeing the "failures" it helps me learn also!

Ouch.
Video looked like it was really fast, maybe that caused too much shock load for gears? Good luck on round 2.

Yes, it was too fast.

I've thought of gear motors, but haven't found any that will fit. I'm real limited with the amount of room on the inside for motors.

SmallHaul, on here does a conversion of these, & in the description of his Youtube vid, it says he uses servos for the drive motors. I've sourced a continuous servo that has a spline that allows me to use the style of mounting brackets I'd like to use. :bounce: HOPEFULLY, with this set up I can get it working. :)

I've already learned a fair bit. I as well like seeing OTHER PEOPLES failures so I can learn from their mistakes. I don't like it so much when it's my time & money wasted to find failure. Most everything on this forum that I found for a conversion like this has Photo Bucket pics. Photobutt ISN'T letting me view the pics of the builds :( Without pics/vids of their successes, &/or failures, it's difficult for me to know what has, & hasn't worked. I learn better from pictures than reading about it! I learn even better when shown while it's done AKA videos &/or being shown in person:)

Re: Bruder small Cat conversion

I DON'T know if the small N20 gear motors would be sufficient for this build or not. If the servo idea doesn't pan out, perhaps I'll attempt it with a couple of them. I don't even have a clue what RPM would be well suited to this build. HOPEFULLY the servo idea will pan out. I've seen vids of the stuff that SmallHaul has converted. His looks good, & are very functional too. ;) I'm sure with a lil tinkering, I can figure out how to get them servos to work for my drive motors too. :D

This, as well as all future builds/conversions I'm doing, are from now on going to be merged into 1 thread. The progress of this can be followed here
