Re: Green Mountain Girl - Grand Hauler Build
I didn't forget about this thread, just been too busy to update. :-)
The next couple of sessions were dedicated to constructing the fifth wheel and starting on the cab. The fifth wheel was pretty straight-forward. For the cab, after starting to install it, I decided that the floor was too plain, so I added flocking, then painted it, to add a little texture. For the seats, I used styrene to fill in the backs. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...a206fc_c_d.jpg https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...5213d9_c_d.jpg https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...139838_c_d.jpg https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...cfa89e_c_d.jpg Fifth wheel plate was painted to match the frame. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...e5f5bc_c_d.jpg https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...802dcd_c_d.jpg https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...d414c9_c_d.jpg https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...8084bd_c_d.jpg I had to try the cab on to see how it would look. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...abebed_c_d.jpg https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...6189fe_c_d.jpg https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...d992da_c_d.jpg https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...ca92c4_c_d.jpg The standard hollow backs needed some filling. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...32f20d_c_d.jpg To get the size of the seat backs, I slobbed on some wet paint and made in impression on styrene sheet. When the paint was dry, I cut inside the lines for an (almost) perfect fit. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...2b8dc7_c_d.jpg With the seat back in place, a little filler in the gaps helped smooth things out. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...9720cd_c_d.jpg Finally, cut the hood of the cab. This was done carefully with a craft knife, and took far longer than I expected it would. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...c1e3a8_c_d.jpg -Elroy |

Next up, some upgraded rear wheels. I really like the look of these.

I found the file on Thingiverse, and scaled it as best I could. It turned out a bit smaller than scale, but I moved ahead with it anyway. Engine still on the printer: https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...5465d3_c_d.jpg Cummins engine, right side up: https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...f40702_c_d.jpg Test placement: https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...68c910_c_d.jpg Trying the engine with the cab in place. About half of the print was cut away to fit over the model's motor. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...b2144c_c_d.jpg https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...41d83e_c_d.jpg -Elroy |
