i have this problem with my 4100. The swing only works smoothly when a long boom is in a horizontal position.

Many thx :).

Do you have a P&H 4100?

Nice to see you're still with us. Why did you elect to use a internal gear? What was that gear used on?

Hi Steve,

I'm always with you :). Thx for careing. I was doing some other modelling stuff and was trying to get this internal gear ring.

I'm still thinking about of building a rotary passage for power supply so I decided to use an internal gear rim.

I found it on the TV. It was a report about inventions. Someone was showing a rehab buggy for disabled persons with a connectible electric drive. This gear ring is screwed to the wheels and the pinion is spuring in.
I managed to find the inventor of this system and to purchase one of these internal gears from him.

I find it by searching the internet. Great invention. Isn't it?

I was thinking about how to reduce the weight of the bucket. Today I had an idea of some weight tuning so I made alot of sparks and cut some sections out of it. I will plate the new holes with much lighter aluminium sheets.

Hi lorenzo-I see you are working on the page again. Why do you want a light -weight bucket? I found the heavier the bucket got the better it dug. I actually added weight to my dragline bucket.

Re: Page 631 Walking Dragline

Hi Tom,

yes I'm doing a little on it. The bucket was to heavy. But I think it will still dig good.
I also had a mast collapse so the boom went down. The mast and one of the boom parts broke so I have to redo it. The mast this time in metal. I think the boom is strong enough so I will let it made of styrene for the first. We'll see.

This is how it looks now. I shut the openings with aluminium sheets.

Now you need holes so water will drain.

Yes, but only when I'll dig for gravel and similar under water.

Re: Page 631 Walking Dragline

You didn't consider plastic sheet to make the bucket lighter yet?

So how many cubic meter did you move before the mast/boom broke?

lorenzo 03-02-2011 02:57 PM

Re: Page 631 Walking Dragline

Hehe, good questions ;).
The plastic sheet isn't wear proof so that's why I choose alu.
Not a single one did I dig with it ;). I hope I will , some day :D.

Lorenzo-your bucket is looking good! Sorry to hear about your mast failure.:( Do you have a lot of work to do to repair the boom?

lorenzo 03-04-2011 02:47 AM

Re: Page 631 Walking Dragline

Thank you Tom :).

One boom section broke into 2 pieces. I think it's relatively easy to repair. The lower section of the mast is completely destroyed.
The mast was lighter (smaler) than the boom. The failure started on that location where the hoist rope passes through the mast. There is a big diamond shaped hole.

I've made a new spreaderbar (the old one had nearly 500gr) and changed the chains so the drag chains are longer now. Steve, what do you think, is it ok now?
I also weighted the bucket. It's 2,3Kg now. I haven't weight it before but I was told it has 4Kg. So, I would say alot of saving :).
