Lou, that looks very clean and is an excellent idea! I'm curious where the large gear came from. If you can't have hydraulic steering, this looks like the next best thing, for sure!

Back on post #16, Lou put up a link for the servo.

The unit comes as one piece including the gear and just plugs into your receiver. They use these as the house swing on their excavators too as they support 200 lb laterally. The one Logger uses is 6 rpm.

Thanks Rob. I didn't actually visit the link. I thought the link was to the servo alone, and that Lou built the rest of the steering mechansim. That is a nice unit.

Just an update.
No I haven't dropped off the face of the earth. I'm busy waiting for parts to arrive before I start the build.:(
I will update as soon as I have something picture worthy.

Finally. I have my Mil spec tires and motors for the ADT. Now I just have to reorder the Aluminium for the rims as I used it all up on a customers job.
In the mean time I have been busy.
I built a Bruder loader following Smallhauls build thread. I have a new appreciation for the engineering that goes into a project like that. It's not all cut and dried.

Small haul

They absolutely are. I,m going to follow in your footsteps again and build a Tonka dump truck, I just picked up a 1960 Tonka with a red cab and green box from a friend. He had it in his office in a shelf. It even has the origional packaging.

Finally some progress on my ADT. I got the rims roughed out and started on the drive hubs. Also gathered the material for the rear frame.

Jordy. Your rims look very real. did you copy them from the full size machine.

Yes I did copy them but the bolt flange is a little off of scale because of the electric drives. Once the "planetary" housings are in place they will look pretty close to real.

Hi Jordy,

Nice start on the wheels and the tyres look good as well. One thing, you mention a 6S battery., i assume this is similar to what you use in your heli's. 22volts is very high for ground based vehicle.. it'll be speed demon!

Yeah 6s would be over kill. I have a Sabertooth dual motor ESC for the drives and will run a 3s pack at 11.1 volts. Now that I see the thread on Robbe hydraulics I might have to rethink the dump mechanism.

That's similar to me, I'm going to use a 3S lipo with a standard Esc, connected to all 6 drive motors, forgot to add, I only went with standard Esc as I want it to control the lights etc.

Our shop has an old lathe that nobody uses anymore so I can set up before and after work with out interfering with anybody and leave stuff set up during the day.
The lathe is a 1946 Dean Smith and Grace that is all worn out and really clumsy to operate but it handles the small stuff easily.
