Here's what I'm trying at the moment. I'm using landscaping cloth and it seems to work well although you can see through it slightly. I'm in a bit of a pickle because I am sure there are better materials out there but that comes at a price. I want to keep things as reasonable as I can but still make money for my effort so I hope this is OK. I guess I'll see what you guys think but I think this is my best option for thickness, price and ease of use. https://youtu.be/yA-q3uhF8ec http://i1293.photobucket.com/albums/...ps4hjng3qg.jpg http://i1293.photobucket.com/albums/...psspo72i0m.jpg |
Re: Old style dump trailer
dude that music has to go !!!
for the scale it looks fine as long as you cant rip it by pulling its good you still have a few raps left on the bar to cover a crowned load?? |

You can tear this if you pull on it firmly by hand but I don't see it tearing under normal use. I will try to see how expensive the material Keith used on the Mack is before I say this is the answer. I just want to keep it simple because I don't really have any interest in making the actual tarp itself. I don't sew nor do I want to invest in a sewing machine. I'm a metal guy... |
Re: Old style dump trailer
Well, better than country music.
I think the fabric works great and plays the part well. I wouldn't worry about the see through effect. Keep in mind, the box is a light colour and shiny. Who covers an empty trailer? Put some dirt in there and then see how it looks. :) |
Re: Old style dump trailer
Hey Reg have you thought about speaker cloth ? It can be had relatively cheap and in different colors. Looks good as always ;)

My wife said exactly the same as you about covering a trailer full of dirt and not seeing through the fabric. She's a smart girl. Not sure what she's doing here actually. Quote:

leave the landscape cloth if the buyer wants to change let them do it!! |
Re: Old style dump trailer
hey Reg if you had a way to double the material would that work?
|
Re: Old style dump trailer
Whatever Keith used on his DM800 dump worked well. I think he wrote it in his thread. He did, bathing suit material from JoAnns fabrics.

And your right. If people don't like the fabric, they can change it. You've still provided all that's required to run a tarp of their choice. |
Re: Old style dump trailer
we'll have to ask Adam now as he has most of keith stuff LOL!!!

Re: Old style dump trailer
Ever thought about cutting up some nylons? They come in many colors.

Re: Old style dump trailer
Did someone mention rails ! Where's the train ! Mike also agree don't want to see anyone in oversize nylons . It reminds me of my roofer that buys all his wife's Lululemon close and telling me at a job site about , then I asked if he try's them on first boy did I get a glare !
|
Re: Old style dump trailer
Yeah let's get this straight. I thought the consensus was, I should go to a yoga class to study the pants and find out if they were see through like the landscaping cloth not where them myself. I should be careful there though too as I guess there are guys that do yoga and I'm not personally interested in any of that "fabric".
Hopefully by the end of the day I will have some pictures that actually put this thread back on track(no Mike not train track). If not though I think this is fun and good entertainment.lol |
Re: Old style dump trailer
Ok well
1. No one wants to see Reg in yoga pants or tights 2. this train derailed when the idea of nylons were brought up 3. Thank God Reg is not interested in "Man" fabric LOL 4. All you guy make Build thread fun its great knowing you all |
Re: Old style dump trailer
You forgot to add that Reg doesn't want to wear or be thought of in yoga pants or tights...Unless of course you are an attractive female. In that case I am still happily married but you can imagine away.:lol::lol::lol:

Re: Old style dump trailer
Thanks Neil. I plan to hit a local cloth store asap to see what, why and how much. I was also pricing out cheap sewing machines this morning. Just when I think I have enough equipment there is something else I have to buy. Time to think back to grade 8 sewing class:confused:.... Nope don't remember a single thing. Oh well, something else I have to teach myself...
I wanted to try this last night but I ran out of steam so this morning I took the water tank off of the "Hoarder Special" and stuck the 5th wheel plate on. I think Benny's trailer looks pretty sweet behind it. There are a pile of hours in metal fab between these to pieces! http://i1293.photobucket.com/albums/...psw7wtv1eu.jpg http://i1293.photobucket.com/albums/...psuyfgzhsp.jpg http://i1293.photobucket.com/albums/...ps01ch8uf8.jpg http://i1293.photobucket.com/albums/...psrfift8sz.jpg http://i1293.photobucket.com/albums/...psucovd64t.jpg http://i1293.photobucket.com/albums/...ps7s0qinjl.jpg http://i1293.photobucket.com/albums/...psk8iqx4zz.jpg http://i1293.photobucket.com/albums/...pshju2zu3n.jpg |
