Thanks Lou, Jordy, Jason and Fred for the comments on the build. Really enjoyed building this truck as my first. As most of you know I'm into anything that moves or has wheels. Already started on the trailer and that will have some unique things on it to make it different. I finally got the truck finished and am pleased with the way it turned out. Only have to get the FWD decals made and applied and it's finished. Here's some more pictures.

The windshield wipers were the hardest part of the build and I think it took about eight tries to get them close to right.

Nice one of a kind truck! The windshield wipers looks real good, can you get us a close up photo?? Are they made from brass profiles (K&S)? (Need to do some to my D8).

Thanks for all the comments on the truck. I actually started the truck back in Sept but didn't want to start the thread till I was sure on how it would turn out. On the wipers I only used the ones that came with the Globe liner and lengthened the arms with styrene stock. The trouble that I had was to get the arms to lie flat on the glass because of the angle. Bending the arms after they were glued, they just kept breaking.

Steve the only way that I use small taps is with white lead paste the boat guys use to caulk their hulls with. I use it mixed with oil in a 70/30 mix. Oil 70 Paste 30. You have to stir it before use as the paste settles out. A machinest friend of miine showed me that and I've broke very few taps since.

HMM, Another white lead user. I use that stuff for threading too sometimes. I also use it to keep metal from galling in a bending die and for pressing shafts. Warning: "Do Not Eat" if anybody with any common sense would know. These days this is considered toxic waste I guess too many kids in housing projects ate too much off of old window sills in the 1970's:rolleyes:

Hey Steve your right about not eating it. I'm not encouraging anyone to use it either, but it's still available for sale for boats and it does work great for tapping. My original baby food jar is about 20 years old and I just top it up with oil every once and a while

Yesterday started working on the dump trailer to go with the FWD. Had some extra axles so I though, let's see how it looks as a Michigan special.

The trailer looks good.
What about making the two center axles steerable to reduce the scrubbing when you turn. It should follow like a standard 2 axle trailer then.

I intend to make one similar one of these days & try a 6x4 tandem trk to pull it. I'm gonna go with a single axle front & tandem rear with a 16' box... and hope the trk can pull it off road.

JMO, you might try tandem - tandem with a 20' box. :confused:

trailer is looking great, I think you should take out the middle two axles, and make it standard quad trailer. like the ones you would see here on the island. there are lots up your way hauling to hazco everyday. I loaded two quads for up there today. :D

Jordy Great idea and I thought about that, but would make it more complicated to install steering axles.

Joe and Jason. I think I'll go with your suggestion tandem front and back, What I think I'll do is make the box a 20 footer but keep the full length trailer. I'll put the box centered on the trailer like a transfer, but have it dump at the back. Should be able to build a screw drive that will move it to the back and then dump. here's an idea, What do you think.

I think you still have room for 1 more axle in there, never too many.
Just kidding, I agree that the tandem front and rear would look pretty sharp. Nice work.

I think you should go with four axles total, maybe you could pull two axels out and post a photo so we can compare. Great idea for a transfer type box .

Thanks Greg. Great idea. Never thought but when I build the dump for the truck I made it so that you pull two pins and it's off. Well I did that and put it on the trailer frame and I think it's just about the right size at 16". What do you think.

your reach on you trailer might need to be a bit longer too if you want to dump the truck with out unhooking the trailer. just some thoughts, this is one awesome build. . can't wait to see more

Looking good rob..On my way to work this morning I saw a beauty KW all chromed out and lit up like a xmas tree with one of those trailers pulling behind..Wish i would of had my camera with me ...Gona be a nice pair when done and you can get in that line up that joe has ..lol

Neil. When I started the build that was my intention, for a transfer truck and trailer. The problem was how to make the high lift tail gate on the box. I though of air, hydraulics, using a winch or some springs but just could not get any of it to fit in that tight space. So if you have any thoughts that you might share I'm all ears. That's the best part of this forum. How about this one

The only reason I'm thinking this one is I wouldn't have such a long thread on the screw drive and when that box is full it's going to be a heavy lift.
With a short box the screw drive will move it to the back and then lift, so it will kinda have the transfer look.

Any way's, that rc trailer had a real neat chain drive setup, that would work for the transfer trailer. I think it would take a battery and receiver under the trailer. Winch drive, or screw drive for pushing the transfer box, into the truck box?
Cost my be getting out of control for this idea? I don't know what radio you are using? Will your's support 2 reciever's?

Ok, next question, how to make the tailgate work on the transfer box, when it's in the truck?

Rob , I built a high rise tailgate on my 9370 , I'll have to get some pics for you . if you have room for 2 645mg servos under the box in the back , you could make some linkage arrangement to lift the tailgate . I like your idea of a sliding box Rob, very trick without being overly complicated to build, will work flawlessly everytime with every load & no hands on. :cool:

Transfers -> too many small, intricate parts that will break, bind, burn out, blow up...! I think such an idea is buildable, but won't be good for no hands, trouble free, regular use.

Neil. Ya I looked at the liner actuators, but they take up to much space as there's only about 1/8" thickness to work with.
Steve. looking forward to see how you did the high lift, don't want to steal your ideas but just some pointers would be good.

The radio I'm using is a TH9X Sky Fly. 2.4 . It has lots of switch's and knobs and I bound it to two receivers so I can put one in the trailer to operate the screw drive, brakes, tailgate lock and the lock pin on the turn table to be able to back it up. The transfer drive I was going to model is made by Beall Trailers and you can see the video here.http://www.beallcorp.com/aluminum-transfer/
It kinda neat as there are no hydro's on the trailer.
Joe Thanks for the comments and I can see where you need the reliability moving all those mountains of dirt. I myself like to push the envelope and try to make things as scale as I can and if possible make them work. If I can somehow make the lift gate work, I'll take those four axles and make up two trailers and that would be even more fun. Keep the comments rolling in and let's see where this end's up.

Rob in this thread , post #6 8th pic green dump on the bridge dumping with the tailgate up . the servo is mounted up on the bulkhead by the dog house . Transfer! Transfer! I vote for transfer, but I'm biased because I like pulling them. My old boss was telling me when he was in Finland he saw transfers that had a jaw clutch arrangement to drive the transfer chain. One half was on the back of the truck and the other half on the front of the trailer so when the truck backed up to the trailer, the jaws meshed and the driver could transfer without getting out of the truck. All he had to do was get out to unhook and hook up, and I can't remember for sure but there might have even been an automatic release for the air and electric lines and the hitch so the driver only had to get out to hook up.
But whatever you do I can tell it's gonna turn out good.

The 1:1's I've pulled had a stirrup that hung off the front side of the tub tailgate latch that the open truck tailgate latch slips into when the tub is transferred into the truck. When the truck latch is closed, it pushes down on the stirrup which opens the tub latch. Hopefully that makes sense.
