Re: CAT 14M Motor Grader
There are no words left to describe this build. Making your own body shells like photo-etched brass is completely over the top.

Words cant describe this build. Incredible!

Re: CAT 14M Motor Grader
Awesome work! You are a great builder!!!:D

Re: CAT 14M Motor Grader

Re: CAT 14M Motor Grader
Nifty seeing how you planned the cut so it bent into the right shape... did ya do it on the 1st try? :D
I never could draw or inivision in 3D before, likely the reason why I get frustrated with scratchbuilding. You however are doing a fantastic job! What's its current weight? |
Re: CAT 14M Motor Grader

And it was not successful on the first time:(, I actually made a new one today, the one I show you earlier was too wide. Weight of the grader so far is 5,5 kg |
Re: CAT 14M Motor Grader
Today I made the roof side sections, witch where difficult to make.
What makes them hard to make is that the other side is straight, and the other is curvy like an airfoil. To be honest I´m not totally satisfied how they turn out:mad:, but maybe some bondo and paint will do the trick;) http://i327.photobucket.com/albums/k...6/IMG_3153.jpg http://i327.photobucket.com/albums/k...6/IMG_3159.jpg |
Re: CAT 14M Motor Grader
Hey Hemi1966, do you need any detail shot's taken, will be at the Cat booth next week?
Let me know. Later, Neil#2 aka doodlebug. |

Re: CAT 14M Motor Grader
Looking good.. quick question, what is bondo?
|
Re: CAT 14M Motor Grader
I don't think it looks too bad. Don't be so hard on yourself.
Elliot, Bondo is a cheap 2part autobody filler that can be sanded once it has hardened. |
Re: CAT 14M Motor Grader
looks great i can't wait to see this thing workin
|
Re: CAT 14M Motor Grader
Hemi, you are not half-stepping by any means on this fantastic build. I commend you on your skills.......i can't wait to see "yours" working!!! Are you going to use hydro on the cylinders?
Keep up the great work! |

How many ch radio & what kind do you intend to use?
Are you going to self make your own hyd system too? |
Re: CAT 14M Motor Grader
Great metal work Ari...That looks as though its a very difficult shape to model..
It seems that most of the new equipment built now has a number of different shapes that make it difficult for the modeler to aquire.. Not like equip made in the 70s 80s ,90s with most panels flat and square.. Cheers lou |
Re: CAT 14M Motor Grader
Yes, just amazing, awesome work! Tell me what ever shots you needs upclose, I'll just climb off mine and take them! Are you goin to have a way to run just one set of rear wheels, kinda like a diff lock? if it's like the real thing, it's gonna push real bad when u try to turn!

Re: CAT 14M Motor Grader
Don't know what to say...the boys have already said it all. Fantastic work!!! I am inspired! Joe

Re: CAT 14M Motor Grader
Hi guys,
I got time to continue with the grader, and I made one of the side covers for the engine compartment. http://i327.photobucket.com/albums/k...6/IMG_3248.jpg http://i327.photobucket.com/albums/k...6/IMG_3250.jpg |
Re: CAT 14M Motor Grader
Wow that cab is looking amazing and I like the engine side cover. The added handle looks great as well. So are you gonna have a working door on it so you can access the inside like you did on the cab?

Re: CAT 14M Motor Grader
I just about pee myself when I see an update to this thread. :D:eek:
|
Re: CAT 14M Motor Grader
My chin is getting bruised up bad from my jaw dropping every time I see an update.

Re: CAT 14M Motor Grader
Absolutely beautiful!
I love the smell of fresh cut aluminium in the morning:) I can't wait to see the blade frame and turntable hanging off it. |
Re: CAT 14M Motor Grader
Today I made the right hand side of the engine cover. Again this is a good example of these modern machines, round shapes equals good rear visibility, but quite difficult to make

Re: CAT 14M Motor Grader
Very nice milling. What program are you using? I maybe in the market for a new one. I've been using Bobcad 19 for some time with my old Bridgeport with a ProtoTrak MX3 control. I got V22 but never used it because v19 was easier for me. Last week my old computer took a dive and now with windows 7 I'm having problems. The biggest one is it prints completely black pages. I had that problem with v2007 and v22 but never could fix it. Sorry to change the subject.

Re: CAT 14M Motor Grader

Re: CAT 14M Motor Grader
Today I made one of the side ventilation hatches, and the lower back piece.

Re: CAT 14M Motor Grader
What a build!!:eek: Just keeps getting better with each update. Truely amazing what you can do with CNC equipment and a good Cad/Cam system. I do have a question for you: With all of the detail you are putting in this vehicle, why did you only put less than 1/2 of the number of bolts in the drive line compared to the pics you show of the real thing? I realize that it won't be seen very easily but looks like it wouldn't have been much harder to make completely prototypical???????
|
Re: CAT 14M Motor Grader
The machine is only as smart as the programmer......Top-notch work :D:D
|
Re: CAT 14M Motor Grader
You sure are good at programming your parts. Very ingenious way of simulating your door panels. I've seen this done on lazer cut sheets and the designer burned shallow lines for the press brake operator to know where to make his bends.

Re: CAT 14M Motor Grader
Today I made the front bracket for the articulation cylinders :)
http://i327.photobucket.com/albums/k...6/IMG_3297.jpg http://i327.photobucket.com/albums/k...6/IMG_3298.jpg |
Re: CAT 14M Motor Grader
Ari it is looking great and seems to be coming along nicely. I like the way you made the vent panels but one question I have is how are you going to keep them mounted to the side pannels? I don't see any mounting holes in them.

Re: CAT 14M Motor Grader
I stand in awe at your talent. What more can I say? This model is right up there with the best of the best I have seen on the forum. Incredible. If only I had a fraction of your talent to build something even 1/4 as good! Yikes!

Re: CAT 14M Motor Grader
This weekend I started to make the blade circle:)

Re: CAT 14M Motor Grader
So awesome I tell you. Manufacturers should take note ... the cab work is so beautiful!
Thanks for the pictures!! - Jeff |
