Don't worry Steve. I will be in that same position when I can upgrade my CNC Sherline to new computer and software! It is more of a relearning process than you think. I think the biggest thing is learning the CAD software.

Re: IH5900i heavy haul tractor

cant waite to see it all done. i also like the fact that it is diff then a ken or pete but that hood tranformation is great and the grill. red and black pop in my mind for a heavy haul for some reason!

[offtopic] I love my mac. Did you see that autocad is coming back to the mac; no more parallels needed. [/offtopic]

Re: IH5900i heavy haul tractor

Nice Steve! A sliding 5th wheel. Cool! I'll tell you what. Just using DROs on a mill makes life a lot easier! I play with the mill at work once in a while, and it's all manual, but the DROs are so nice. I plan all my dimensions on paper and then just watch the DROs. Parts come out perfect, as long as your dimensions are perfect too. :D

Re: IH5900i heavy haul tractor

Two tone green is going to be sharp as a tack! What kind of primer did you use on the chassis? How well does it stick to the frame rails and plastic parts?

Re: IH5900i heavy haul tractor

Steve, I think that most of the CAD programs run about the same. Bob Cad and Auto Cad are similar but different- can't have 2 programs work the same:rolleyes:. I am in the same boat as you on CNC computer. The 1 I have now is DOS only- dinosaur!!- because the CNC program is in DOS format. You can still buy this!! They make a system for Windows but then I still need a new computer for it. 1st CNC system I had used Windows and would run from a laptop. Like a dummy, I sold it after not using it for 2 years. Not going to tell you what that system would cost now but it is about twice what a system from Sherline would cost.

Truck really looks nice. Hope to see it in St. Louis!!

Lynn

Wow. That's all I can say Steve. Love the new photos. Whatever you did to take the latest photos, be it a tripod or block of wood, it worked. With the trailer, she's going to be a killer looking combo. I can't wait to see it finished. Two tone will be incredible!

Re: IH5900i heavy haul tractor

thank you Nate , when I'm sick I shake even more so I have to learn to rest the cam on some thing . Also take the pics outside when I can also have the shuter on delay so when i push the button you don't notice the shake . I actually have the detachable to pull with it thats why the sliding 5th wheel . Have to have it back to clear the rear of the truck . The single drop looks better slid fwd . I'll tell ya just like real life for me the longer the easier to back up :p I still can't hitch a short single axle to a tag in 1 shot but my long tandem 1 shot not even lined up .
God I hope I get over this flippin cold soon to much to do

Very unique and original build, the whole thing looks tremendous but I especially like the tag axle, very realistic. The colour sets it all off and the metal front grille is very well done too.

Everyone needs to so we can keep threads neat and tidy. :p

The outdoor pics are much better. If that is the same camera used for the inside shots, then definitely use a perch/tripod and the delay. Truck looks fantastic.

Your picture taking abilities have improved a thousand fold Steve, it's great to see clear photos of your unique talent of model engineering. You are truly in a realm of your own with your abilities of a 100% scratchbuilt model building. Well done Sir!
