Re: PFB's Vario JD 850D
Nice exacution Nate. Well done.

Re: PFB's Vario JD 850D
You did great job! Now make a video of that digger behind a truck see we could see them more in action!
Btw, that video was running on background for awhile and that sound was amazing, just like a real digger! |

Re: PFB's Vario JD 850D

Re: PFB's Vario JD 850D
Gonna tackle that build soon. Thinking 769D

Re: PFB's Vario JD 850D
Nice job on this set up Nate! Is the fifth wheel bucket mount a scale 1:1 prototype?;):D:D
|
Re: PFB's Vario JD 850D
Very cool Nathan! I have never seen this set up before watching the video. A very innovative idea.
|
Re: PFB's Vario JD 850D
A tamiya rig will certainly pull 80lbs, but to try to carry 80lbs too ? You'll want to replace that plastic 5th slider plater with a metal one. ;)

Now thats cool Nate!!! Love the idea behind it. Great way to move it around a site without the time of loading it on a lowboy!! Great work!!

Re: PFB's Vario JD 850D
Joe's D9 is about 80lbs.
Nate, it'd be interesting to know what amount weight would it be at the bucket with the rear of the tracks resting on the dollies, could you weigh it on a bathroom scale? What do you think of a tri axle jeep to spread the load? Your trk with Russisloud's simulated air ride suspension, a load such as this would certainly test its limits! :D |
Re: PFB's Vario JD 850D
Got no scale, that way I can't check how fat I am...
I did test the rig tonight and it pulled the vario just fine. Just need to load the front of the truck with weight so it will respond to steering better. |
Re: PFB's Vario JD 850D
Did you lubricate your 5th wheel at all?
A spray on graphite is relatively clean to work with, dries very quickly. |
Re: PFB's Vario JD 850D
Nope, probably not a bad idea.
|
Re: PFB's Vario JD 850D
Looking good Nate- this is really kool!
|
Re: PFB's Vario JD 850D
Hey Nate, do you have a farm store near by, with scale's?
Post office scale's, not practical option. Cheer's, Neil. |
Re: PFB's Vario JD 850D
Finally warm enough to get some welding done on these buckets Joe traded to me for my 1st dollies. (V2 will be built soon) Although rare, sometimes it's nice to have a small TIG for this tiny stuff!
Not bad for a couple hours tonight! Should have them finished up this weekend. http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8101/8...4fc06584_b.jpg http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8114/8...4381288e_b.jpg |
Re: PFB's Vario JD 850D
Is that your 1st time using the tig?
Good to see you're getting back at 'er. |

Buckets are looking great!

Re: PFB's Vario JD 850D
Time to improve the beast!
- Finish buckets - Take out the worm gear swing drive and replace with Joe's option - Redo the cab interior. Was sent to me as the 1:12.......blah - Counterweight is going to get quick disconnect (gets in the way when lifting the model) - Rewire and possibly add SMX and speaker enclosure. - Stop stick pin from working it's way out during operation. - Weathering to make it look more "accurate" |
Re: PFB's Vario JD 850D
Stripping all parts off (Hope to get the cylinders painted too)
http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8246/8...f25ab655_b.jpg Had to make an adapter for the new swing driveshaft. Pretty satisfying making my own parts! http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8265/8...e8c4061e_b.jpg |
Re: PFB's Vario JD 850D
Weathering? :p The more you use it, more used it will look! Go all natural.

Re: PFB's Vario JD 850D
fake weathering belongs to plastic models in dioramas.
leave it be! |
Re: PFB's Vario JD 850D
Great job on the new buckets. Go wild with the weathering, the more time you spend adding detail to them the better they look. Keep up the good work.

I say some nicely done (not overkill) detailing would look very nice Nate! Go for it!

Re: PFB's Vario JD 850D
Dang Nate - di d you get drunk one night - your finger tips are dirty????? Waht's up with dat?????
It is nice making nice parts your self aint it? I am realy getting close to making a serious effort towards a mill.... |
Re: PFB's Vario JD 850D
Sunshine will weather anything! None of my 1:1 toys are shed queens!
Cheers, Neil. |
Re: PFB's Vario JD 850D
Looking forward to this one, Nathan! I think this could look spot on when you're done with it :D
|
Re: PFB's Vario JD 850D
I'm tired of the model looking like it's made of plastic instead of metal. Just look how shiny that boom arm is! I guess that's the idea behind my weathering. If you wanna call it fake or modeling, I suppose that's in the eye of the beholder.
|
Re: PFB's Vario JD 850D
doodlebug - so you leave your stuff outside? I'd be divorced before night fall the next day if I did that????? I don't dsut em off but I must agree with Nate - they just don't look like the 1:1 units. I don't do it on my units cause I don't have the skill set to pull it off......

Re: PFB's Vario JD 850D
Yah, no building for the 10 wheeler or the yellow iron, suck's, but that's life!
But then the panel's on my Cat 305CCR don't even fade evenly, kinda odd to me? Look at Cat backhoe cab's and how the plastic roof fade's to white. What few RC toy's that I have, well they're dust queen's for now, and inside. Cheer's, Neil. Quote:

Re: PFB's Vario JD 850D
Got the stick pin all finished up. Not wild about the look of the socketcap but it'll do for now. Special thanks to Lynn (tc1cat) for all the tips he's given me to help me along in my machining endeavors.

Re: PFB's Vario JD 850D
All of your upgrades look nice. You might try a button head capscrew instead of the regular allen head capscrew. They are much shorter in height and should blend in better or find a brass screw.
