Re: My Stretched globeliner
Well Since the wife put a temp freeze on part ordering for a few weeks i took some brass that i had laying around and decided to try a few things. Im quite impressed with what i came up with so far. I decided to try making some air cleaners with what i have around the house and here is what i did.
Started with 3/4 copper plumbing and a thin sheet of brass http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b1...415_225745.jpg http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b1...415_225752.jpg Rounded the sheet brass out and limiting the solder lines http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b1...415_232326.jpg http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b1...415_232356.jpg Took some brass tubing and Chair leg bottom. and came up with this http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b1...415_225811.jpg http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b1...415_225820.jpg http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b1...415_233521.jpg Used some double sided tape (for mock up only will be soldered on) http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b1...416_000524.jpg http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b1...416_000535.jpg http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b1...416_000545.jpg http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b1...416_000601.jpg I just need to make or find something to cap off the bottoms, and solder them on. Since the rack and aircleaners are going to be painted I decided this route as i couldn't cover Russ's sweet work with paint... There are so many thing i still need to do. Including new front bumper, rear bumper, more cab lights, side lights, new stacks (taller and angle cut) fenders, paint, and poss a longer frame still.... hmmm there still may be more then that yet to do... hope you like the update. |
Re: My Stretched globeliner
Hi dabears,
great job. It´´s looks really good. I like this truck. |
Re: My Stretched globeliner
Thanks! I'm still plotting more changes before I can strip and re paint. Then I get to re do the trailer
|
Re: My Stretched globeliner
The breathers and big exhaust look right at home. great job!!!:D:D:D

Re: My Stretched globeliner
Amazing what can be made at home with bits and pieces lying around. All you need is a good idea. Well done DaBears, great work.
|
Re: My Stretched globeliner
Nice job on he breathers. I think you need to put the scoops on the top though.

Re: My Stretched globeliner
I think your intakes turned out very good! Scoops would be cool, but I really don't see them all that often. Seems to me most COEs have a cap, just like you modeled. Nice job.

Re: My Stretched globeliner
Hmmm that may be incorporated as you don't see them as much...
So as I was soldering the breathers to the rack one of the joints came lose from to much heat and us all crooked and messed up looking now...... So I have to either undo it and rebuild that one and hope it works the second time around or re-think the design a little.change it up with materials, maybe I'll use styrene for it all... I'll post pics of how it turned out tonight when I get home from work.. |
Re: My Stretched globeliner
I learned that when you get to the point of having a lot of soldered joints near where your soldering you need to use heat sinks, in my case on the headache rack I used a bunch of vise grips because it was all I had at the time. If you use them put a very light pressure on the part, as the brass gets hot it gets soft, to much pressure and you'll leave a small indentations.;)
|
Re: My Stretched globeliner
Another option for you might be to simply bolt the breather canisters to the rack instead of soldering them. That way you can paint them separately, and replace them, if you ever need to.
|
Re: My Stretched globeliner
Both those options would work. I'll have to pick up some more vise grips and try that. If that doesn't work I'll go by a tap and dye set to thread the holes needed. If those don't work right then I'll have no choice to out source that part of the build lol.. Still need to figure out the rear frame slope, or notch like I call it..
|
Re: My Stretched globeliner
Some of John's (Stylin-N_Profilin) stack and elbows would look great on there, either miter cut or bull pipes!
Nice build you have going there for sure. |

Got some supplies on my lunch to re make the breathers
|
Re: My Stretched globeliner new updates
Ok so as promised i putting the pics of how the breathers turned out when soldered to the rack. so heres what happened
The left one is the one that came undone while soldering as you see here http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b1...420_194942.jpg Tried to fix it and this is how it is now http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b1...420_194955.jpg Im kinda a perfectionist so i dont like it and will be re doing it again. So when i was tearing the truck down again i noticed something i didnt before. my back wheels although the same are not the same... 2 are 6 lugs and the other 2 are 8 lugs... the fronts are 8 lugs.... YIKES!!! but they are getting swapped out to chrome ones anyways :p as it will bother me having that difference!!! http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b1...420_195123.jpg Got the holes drilled for the lights on the trailer, just gotta figure out how to wire them http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b1...420_195037.jpg made mirror brackets http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b1...420_195055.jpg And re cleaned and organized my cave where i do it all in :D http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b1...420_195027.jpg Thanks for looking and all the great comments!! |
Re: My Stretched globeliner
Nice mirror hoops! Thats the way to go, a bench for the trailer and one for the tractor, Works for me.:D

Thanks on the mirror hoops... the licence plate holders i carefully cut off the front bumper are decent for the actual mirrors but those will be glues on after its all repainted! |
Re: My Stretched globeliner
Nice work on your truck and trailer!!! Cant wait to see it finished!

My Stretched globeliner New Pics!!
OK so im at a standstill until i can start getting parts, so i decided to put the truck back together to see roughly what it will look like, and i make my shopping list of needed parts to finish :eek: :D I put the rack back on and took a scrap peice of sheet brass and made a temp texas bumper. AND WOW!!! Im loving the way this thing is going to look!!! I decided to try to keep the truck as close to the 1:1 as possible but change it a little at the same time. Im not sure what color ill end up with but it may not be orange/white.. may be red/white or take it old school with a brown/crimson scheme. anyways as usual heres some pics, cause i like seeing pics of progress to go with the words :p
Back view (intakes and pipes installed) http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b1...422_153911.jpg Closer view http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b1...422_153928.jpg Front view with stock bumper http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b1...422_153952.jpg Side view with my fenders (still undergoing revision on them) http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b1...422_154034.jpg Back view with my fenders http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b1...422_154231.jpg Again with boredom i made a load and strapped it down to the trailer using the holes i drilled for the lights it will be getting eventually. http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b1...422_154618.jpg Heres the temp bumper http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b1...422_161222.jpg Then had to run it around the basement :cool: http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b1...422_162057.jpg http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b1...422_162106.jpg http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b1...422_162152.jpg http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b1...422_162203.jpg http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b1...422_162342.jpg Thats all for now.. might make a video and still need to upload the ones of my daughter riding on the trailer. Thanks for looking and all the nice comments. I hope to start ordering parts this week to get this build moving along. |
Re: My Stretched globeliner
Great work man! Looks amazing. To wire the trailer lights, lift the planks up. There is plenty of room underneath as they are floating on ribs that have a central channel up the middle.

Re: My Stretched globeliner
lookin good!
|
Re: My Stretched globeliner
Great looking set up.Great job on the air cleaners, you nailed it.
|
Re: My Stretched globeliner
This thing is looking sick dabears.... Nice job. Awesome first build.
|
Re: My Stretched globeliner
Thanks everyone. I'm learning as I go. I'm hoping to get some things ordered this week, just waiting for a price. I think i'm going to get a set of miter cut pipes, seeing if Russ can make the rack and breathers (that way its perfect and square) a new visor, front and rear bumper, and poss new fenders. Hope to get half of it ordered this week and the rest in a few Weeks

Re: My Stretched globeliner
Aaron, the stretched globe pulling the tri-axle flatbed looks mean.:D I love the stained deck, nice touch.:D

Re: My Stretched globeliner
Ok heres an update. Been working on a few projects off my "honey do List" and Thanks to Glorydays24 and corbetttrailers got a few parts in needed to get some things moving along with the build (thanks guys!!) While waiting for LEDS to come in to light up the trailer i got the rear bumper and homemade DOT bar made and installed.
http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b1...429_225220.jpg http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b1...429_225213.jpg http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b1...429_235457.jpg http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b1...429_235517.jpg Heres playing around with an idea of making fenders for the trailer to match the truck, but instead of doubles it'll have triples.. http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b1...427_223214.jpg http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b1...427_223153.jpg heres my shiney new wheels :) they are the stock ones but now they all match, and are shiney lol http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b1...427_223114.jpg http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b1...427_223056.jpg Thanks for looking!! Got my new dremel today and some more pvc thats thinner so going to remake the fenders for the truck and fabricate some for the trailer.. |
Re: My Stretched globeliner
Aaron, I must say the bumper is looking gooooooood!!!:D:p:cool: And the triple fenders will really set the trailer off.:) I'm glad I could help out buddy.:D

Re: My Stretched globeliner
OK so playing around with ideas, and need input to keep or change back... Let me know what you think of this... :D
http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b1...501_132423.jpg http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b1...501_132410.jpg http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b1...501_132332.jpg http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b1...501_132315.jpg Making it a spread axle, shorty fenders with tool box. The box ill prob make from sheet metal, and not keep the styrene (was just a prototype) let me know if you like it better this way?? I kinda do but am still on the fence about it.. :D:D Thanks For looking!!! |
Re: My Stretched globeliner
Yep the spreadaxle is a big winner in my book!
|
Re: My Stretched globeliner
I agree, more unusual and special! Go for it.
|
Re: My Stretched globeliner
Spread axel is my favorite..:D:D i stilll wish i kept mine..:(

Re: My Stretched globeliner
Everyone does spread axle but the triple with those guards will make it stand out from the rest with nice shiny tool box/s in from of them,
Cheers Tracy |
Re: My Stretched globeliner
That's looking good! One suggestion though. Your trailer's fenders look like they need to wrap around the wheels a little more, so they match the tractor's fenders. I like the spread axle better. Either way, it's going to look good, but it's a little easier to model the norms, rather then the abnormal. Just don't see many tri-axle trailers around the US like that. That's not to say it wouldn't fun to model, because it's unique and cool, but spread axles are just more common, and they look sweet too.
|
Re: My Stretched globeliner
Wow, That is a difficult choice ... triple or spread.... triple or Spread.....
I got it figured out -- you need 2 trailers -- One in each configuration Looking Good either way to me! |
Re: My Stretched globeliner

I think the frame and fenders will be painted to match the truck but the side rails will be polished. I got half of one side polished but wasn't happy with it. Too many scratch marks left in it..... May be sending those out to get polished nicely. Tracey I agree with the tri axle but this one will be the spread, and down the road I'll to a tri As well, after I get my dump trailer! I really want one of those. Even thought about converting this one to a dump trailer.. |
