lookin good i like this build it is something there isn't alot of keep up the great work

Re: 140H Grader
Neat project looks great so far. I had an idea about the internal gear ring. What if you cut a circle the outside diameter you want and put some sheet metal or plastic on the edge so it sticks up the thickness of the gear you want. In the middle of this circle fix a large regular gear that gives the ring gear the right spacing and teeth. So basically make a temporary mold and then pour some strong epoxy type stuff it the space.
Hopefully my description makes some sense, if not I could do a quick drawing for ya. Not sure if this is a better idea then your chain idea, but just throwing it out there. I look forward to your updates. |
Re: 140H Grader
Nice project Rob. What dia's should the inner gear ring have?

Re: 140H Grader
aw man Rob , your making me look like an amateur  looks great

Re: 140H Grader
Rob, your work is amazing! Wood, brass, aluminum, whatever material you use, you seem to have no problem getting your parts to be excellent duplicates of the 1:1 machine's parts. Glad to see you are gaining some ground on this build. It's going to be an awesome model when done. Can't wait to see it.

Re: 140H Grader
I managed to get a couple of significant pieces done this afternoon. I wanted to us my Robart 2'' stroke cylinders, but needed a clevis to work....so i got on the lathe and bandsaw and WALAA.
Finster, i have solved the internal tooth ring, i am using an r/c motorcycle chain and sprocket for the drive gear. I soldered the chain to the inside of my circle board. It is pretty true for just eyeing it in. Steve, I am still trying to reach your 'master' status Lorenzo, I really didn't measure the diameter, I just kinda went from the patterns, i will take a measurement Dream, I am going to run as much hydraulic as possible. I haven't used a switch 8 before, i just know that i need quite-a-few 3 pos switches so i can center my valves http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h1...t/IMG_2049.jpg http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h1...t/IMG_2050.jpg http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h1...t/IMG_2051.jpg http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h1...t/IMG_2055.jpg http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h1...t/IMG_2054.jpg http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h1...t/IMG_2057.jpg http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h1...t/IMG_2056.jpg |

Re: 140H Grader
nice work i like this build this is going to be one cool grader i can't even imagine the radio part of it lol

Re: 140H Grader
Nice work, the design on the ring is clever.:)

Re: 140H Grader
Robbert very nice you are looking better every day. Ed:cool:

Re: 140H Grader
After seeing many of your previous builds, you constantly amaze me with what you build. No matter what material you choose, it seems like you master it with no problems. Can't wait to see this monster running around at one of the minitruck meets.
Keep up the GREAT work!!! Lynn |
Re: 140H Grader
Thanks guys for all the supporting words. I am beginning to make a little headway on it. I will soon begin work on the interior. It's a fun project to build. I have to figure out things as I go along and the guys at the local Cat dealership have bent over backwards......twice to help me. I am learnign how to use my mini lathe and make some parts. If I had the skills of U expert machiners, I would be further along.:D:D:D

Re: 140H Grader
I think you're doing just fine on this build. Did you machine the lift pieces?

Re: 140H Grader
REALLY beautiful - it amazes me how it looks like cast iron after the paint ..... just boggling. Interesting comment about the local guys ED - even the business owners that I tend to frequent are helpful ...... at first I thought they would think me kinda nuts and such for 'playing with toys' ...... now I think they're kinda jealous ........ They all work hard for me ..... and others .....

Re: 140H Grader
Looks awesome. You definitely would not know any of it is wood after that paint. Do you do a layer of filler or something to get it that smooth? Have you looked at the Airtronics SD10G? Not sure it is enough channels for you, but all the switches are 3-pos. The F-14 is expandable enough that it would work but with all the decoders it ends being a lot of radio gear.

Re: 140H Grader
for you to have told me in jackson that you work with primitive tools you sure are turnin out a very nice project keep it up:cool:

Re: 140H Grader
Lil bit more on the moldboard assembly. Got the braces done and the cylinder bracket made for the blade's pitch. Gotta clean all the solder up. I will sandblast all the metal before i prime it

Re: 140H Grader
I am going with the AT SD10G. I just got the nerve to sprang for a pump though, so the radio will be early next yr, after the holiday season.
Sand, sand, sand, then cover with fiberglass cloth and afix with CA. The CA fills 99.9 % of the cloth......sand, sand, filler, sand, sand.....rub ur fingers across it, then sand some more......then prime/paint Quote:

Re: 140H Grader
The circle and moldboard assembly is looking just great! Nice detail, and really like the novel approach to the circle gear - we often don't recognize a chain works from both sides and doesn't have to be the moving part. I agree with the others, how you make wood look like cast-iron is a wonder. Keep it up!

Re: 140H Grader
rcfarmer-your doing really great work! That model looks very complicated to me but looks like you have it well under control. Nice job!
|
Re: 140H Grader
This, your work, is insane, Rob! I cannot believe the painted parts for the blade lift are wood. This is going to be an incredible model, when done. I cannot wait to see what developes.

Re: 140H Grader
Thanks again guys. Here are a couple more painted pieces.

You are looking real good Rob. You are starting to make some real hear way. Ed

Re: 140H Grader
Here is a brief test the hydraulic steering........hooked it into my terragator pump to test how it should work.

It doesn't seem like it's turning very sharp or is it?

Re: 140H Grader
WOW very nice Rob ! ! ! You should give me a lesson on soldering, you have it mastered.
How many spools are you going to have in the grader ( functions ) greg |
Re: 140H Grader
I guess I need to pay more attention when I see the municpal grader turn around, I thought they turned quite sharp without leaning the tires.
I wonder if the Mammoth tires will roll on edge, sidewalls might be too soft. Perhaps stuffing the tires with plastic BB's will stiifen up the sidewalls without adding too much weight. What makes the difference in hyd flow is the size of hyd hose and fittings. What size do you currently have on your Gator Rob? 1.5mm ID? My current excav & wheel loader are using 2.5mm with the 350ml/min pump and cycle speed is significantly quicker, I would say more than double, than the older models with same pump & 1.5mm hose/fittings. |
Re: 140H Grader
Td9-I have never run any of this equipment before. I just like building different models.....I am building this one from pictures only. So far, I have probably taken about 200 pictures to build each pices.
Greg-6 spools when completely done. After building the Gator, the soldering is a breeze now :D, don't mind sharing any tips that might help ya:) Patience is always the third hand.... |
