Dwayne, once you finish the BJ & the Bear, maybe you could revisit the idea of building a Neil Yates Recovery K100.
That would be an awesome build. I know several of us would be interested in seeing it built. :D :D

Re: BJ and The Bear KW with Reefer Trailer

well here are some updates on this build.i went with the old school exhaust with the mufflers but mitre cut the tops, added the 2 lights on each corner of the bumper(russ true scale r-c) and i got russ to cut me the louvered grill insert for the kw k-100 grill on this truck, scratchbuilt the air cleaner, made the aluminum drop visor out of aluminum sheet ,still need to add the trailer light cord, catwalk, and rear aluminum full fenders.i started work on the trailer and will post more pics when it is near or completed http://i1085.photobucket.com/albums/...ps5cc2b850.jpg

Looking good Dwayne, can't wait to see a modern version of a classic movie/tv truck. I've got a modern version of a classic iconic truck build planned to begin soon. Now finish this beauty up n post the pics ...the suspense is killing me.

finally finished up the details for this tractor.using aluminum sheet i cut and sanded and polished and made a set or rear full tandem fenders, made the catwalk out of styrene and covered it with mirror polished chrome wrap.soldered extended wires on the tractor side of the trailer light cord ,truck wheelbase is long.still working on the trailer, should be done soon http://i1085.photobucket.com/albums/...psde0bc7d3.jpg

Nice updates! The headlights and headlight bezel surrounds catch my eye. Those look great. Any hints as to where you got them, or how you made them?

the bezels were made from thin sheet styrene and the lens are made from the crazy eyes package you find in the craft stores ,.they are called crazy eyes and the are flat eyeballs with a black round plastic piece inside that look like pupils of the eyes and the roll around inside .they come in different sizes and you cut out the backs take out the black piece and trim of the access ,as you see the front lense part is crystal clear and they make great headlight lens

Great idea! Thanks for sharing that. I thought the lenses looked a heck of a lot clearer than anything else available out there right now. It never dawned on me to try those crazy eyes.

Re: BJ and The Bear KW with Reefer Trailer

making it a spread axle .and installed the rearmost axle and the forward axle is just resting on it until i decide how much of a spread i want.sprayed the white colour and let it dry for a few days ,masked it off and sprayed the italian red colour ,unmasked and touched up the white in spots and installed the black pinstripe on one side of the trailer.once the clear is dry i will do the other side and hopefully get it assembled tonight

That looks awesome. The Kenworth is very sharp. The Peterbilt must have been in for service - needed the fuel turned up so it could chase down a Valiant? :D Quite a contrast between trucks. One is all shiny and the other came out of a junk yard.

Re: BJ and The Bear KW with Reefer Trailer

here it is finally done!!! i put just a slight spread on it ,chromed the front headboard with the old school style reefer unit.i used red anodized wheel nuts for the trailer .i custom did the rear doors to look like the new style reefer doors with the mirror polished look.i also made my own mudflaps with the thin sheet rubber and sheet aluminum ,sanded and polished them for that mirror polished look on the mudflaps hope you like it ..wait until you see whats next?

yes i am i just have to add the rear bumper and lights to it but its a solid trailer thanks for the kind words

Espeefan 05-25-2014 06:18 PM

Re: BJ and The Bear KW with Reefer Trailer

The rear doors on the reefer look great. Maybe what you need now is a couple red bunk lights to shine and reflect off that polished headboard on the trailer!

BAD *** beautiful truck.... I have one question though. I noticed everyone building these B.J. and Bear trucks keep forgetting to add the gold pin stripe that goes around the black stripe around cab.I am not sure if anyone noticed that or if it would be to hard to try and replicate being that is a thin line. I am not trying to take anything away from this build or any of the others just mentioning it...Great work.
