Re: RCLogger
Greg...If that doesn't get you some points with the Mrs, nothing will..
Nice to see a practical application of the models... Jerry |
Re: RCLogger
Funny you mentioned that Jerry, she had asked what I was up to for the last two hours. I said I cleaned up the tomato plants. She had this BLANK look and said it took two hours.
I then told her I only used my models to do the work... I can't quite figure out the look she gave me after that. LOL Oh well, I had a great time ! ! greg |

My wife is yacking about someone needs to cut all the flowers and tomato plants down on the side of the house. Looking at your pictures makes me think that's a legitimate way to play with the models:D

Re: RCLogger
I like your landscaping!! :)

Re: RCLogger
All you need is a 1/14 scale Woodmizer :)

Re: RCLogger
Sorry Neil, I was called away.... I have been asked a few times on how I scale up a project, I hope this helps.
Here is how I scale up a project, I must say though that it is the quick and dirt way... There are folks on this site who do things to a high degree of scale. I try and pick a project that is a size that all the operating equipment will fit into. ( motors, servo's, hyd's ). To confirm the size I look for a brochere, like the one below. http://www.komatsuamerica.com/viewch...id=927&chart=1 |
Re: RCLogger
thanks greg how do i get it too 1/14 and where did you get your track chain and pads:)
|
Re: RCLogger
By looking at A: Length 17.10
C: Height 10.4 D: Blade 11.6 Now these can be scaled to give an idea for size. http://jbwid.com/scalcalc.htm So at 1/14 scale A: Length = 15.2 inches |
Re: RCLogger
If it all looks good I then print the brochere and take it to the local copy shop and get them to enlarge it to the true model size...

Re: RCLogger

Re: RCLogger
You and Lou have some nice stuff. Aren't you guys up island somewhere? I have to go up there at the end of November and would love to have a look at your equipment.

Re: RCLogger
I have had some folks asking what I use for roller chain and pads on my models. This is the setup I use... 8 foot lengths of carpet rail from Home-Depot 7/8 wide to make the pads

Re: RCLogger
Flip it upside down and bend it on the first tab..

Re: RCLogger
Roller chain is # 35 with K1 on every second link. When I order the chain it comes in a minumin lenghts of 12 feet...

Re: RCLogger
Neil the motor has three mounting holes on the front. Use a plate on those holes and then attach to the track frames.
I use Servocity mounts to attach to the sprocket. http://i124.photobucket.com/albums/p...carrage001.jpg |
Re: RCLogger
Great use of local materials Greg. Do your track pads work well compared to Lou's - doesn't he have some molded plastic ones?
Richard |
Re: RCLogger
Yes Lou has the molded ones, we have had a pushing contest and my D8 has the upper hand. My pads cut into the dirt rather than float on the top. I would dig a deep hole very fast if I ran up agaist something the D8 could not push. Also the motor I use are 400 oz in per side on 18 volts 25 rpm. Nothing slows them down ! ! !

Re: RCLogger
This was going to be a project down the road with the 400 oz in motors, it would be a tight fit with a pump and spools. I think if a person didn't make the blade 6way, but only up and down I think there would be enough room for the spools for the grapple, boom, and one for the blade..

Re: RCLogger
Greg. Did you post a link for the roller chain and are the pads part of it. Rob

A person could also build it all electric I think. I once used servos on my KMC track skidder to operate the boom and grapple, I have to say it works GREAT. I took the centring system out of the servo so that it would turn endless, worked great for winch drums... greg |
Re: RCLogger
Greg made a mess of that one. Didn't mean pad, should have said K-1 tab,

I just picked up a bunch of aluminum flatbar today to make the tracks for a 527. It's going to take a bunch of jigs to make them. Will I be able to? Dunno, but gonna try. Unfortunately, I have this little work thing that makes me the money to buy tools and materials to make things but prevents me from having the time to do it. Richard |
