Re: Liebherr 574
I wish I had your ambition, sucks getting old(er) & slower. :o Somehow the whole day went by and all I got accomplished was a hyd tank from brass.

Re: Liebherr 574
Reg, I've said it before, you are the master of aluminum work. Just incredible! Beautiful work.

I was working in the shop most of the day but when I got frustrated with something, I decided to take a break and bust out the speed loader. She's a tire fryer for sure but it actually works pretty good. The ground I'm digging in the video is really heavy from all the rain we have been having and yet it still gets a half bucket or so in one scoop. Hopefully adding rubber tires will help with traction a little but not add too much. I would rather it spin than break! http://youtu.be/3NASWsVZDDs |
Re: Liebherr 574
looks exactly like mine did when i first completed the conversion... I have no doubt in my mind once you add weight and rubber to it, she will work flawlessly..... mine weighs a little over 10 pounds now and traction is def not an issue.... keep the pics and mods coming bud..

Re: Liebherr 574
Unbelievable job Reg!!! The bucket looks great as does the whole loader. I was just wondering if you could tell me what kind ESC's you used (Amps?) and what kind drive motors were used.
|
Re: Liebherr 574
These are the ESC's that I used. Very cheap and do the job just fine. There may be better deals out there but I was happy enough with them. http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...arehouse_.html
I used 25mm gear motors. I have 133rpm motors installed it now but only because I had them for something else. Of course they were stolen from project A to complete project B:rolleyes:. I will put lower geared motors in this soon but I won't go with really low geared ones because they don't stand up even though the speed would be better. These motors are definitely too fast but will stall under load. The lower geared units often strip gears before they will stall which is no fun. Hope that helps:D. |
Re: Liebherr 574
Yes that certainly helps. Thank you very much, Reg. I'm kind of a pack rat myself so I'm hoping to get the majority of components off my junk pile but I will need to buy a few things. P.S. Still saving for one of those awesome dumps you build. Thanks again for all your help.
|
Re: Liebherr 574
where did you get the motors? Can't seem to find them in hobbyking
|
Re: Liebherr 574
I bought the motors from Robot Shop some time ago but I get them from eBay now because they offer more choices in ratios. I think Hobby King had some in their robotics section but they where fairly high speed from what I remember.

Re: Liebherr 574
Thanks trying to get all the parts together to try a rebuild when my 574 comes
|
Re: Liebherr 574
Had the speed loader out for a rip this afternoon... This thing is crazy fast but it actually makes it more fun I think:D.

Re: Liebherr 574
Very cool Reg, gets the job done quick that's for sure. Nice work.
|
Re: Liebherr 574
This website has many geared motors with different voltage solutions and revolution per minutes and it offers free shipping to US. I've bought from them on a couple of occasions and it takes about 3 weeks or less for stuff (if in stock) to get to an US address.

Re: Liebherr 574
I've been waiting on some cheap 1.9" crawler tires since just after Xmas. Yesterday after nearly 5 weeks they showed up so today I took a "me day" in the shop and fit them to the loader. So far I am fairly happy with them considering they were $16CAD for all four delivered to my door. The rims started out as 2 1/4" round stock. All together they add almost 2lbs to the weight of the machine. For now I have swapped out the original foams for some out of 2.2" tires. They are way oversize so even though they are soft it still firms up the tires a fair bit. Eventually I will make new foams if need be. The loader runs much nicer on the shop floor and it removes a little more of the "plastic feel" from the machine. I haven't done an outdoor test yet but I'm sure they will be fine....
Almost time for some paint! http://youtu.be/5fhjLTitjOs http://i1293.photobucket.com/albums/...ps970db4d6.jpg http://i1293.photobucket.com/albums/...ps0254d0f9.jpg http://i1293.photobucket.com/albums/...ps247aa70b.jpg http://i1293.photobucket.com/albums/...ps96f65c27.jpg http://i1293.photobucket.com/albums/...psee2b8316.jpg http://i1293.photobucket.com/albums/...ps5485e176.jpg http://i1293.photobucket.com/albums/...ps888a01aa.jpg http://i1293.photobucket.com/albums/...ps91db4f45.jpg http://i1293.photobucket.com/albums/...ps3da0ec1d.jpg http://i1293.photobucket.com/albums/...ps56340da0.jpg http://i1293.photobucket.com/albums/...pscf34bac4.jpg |
Re: Liebherr 574
Looks good, some traction on them sneakers!! Nice work on the rims!!
|
Re: Liebherr 574
Excellent Job Reg, You Loader is taking shape very nicely, I like your attention to detail!
|
Re: Liebherr 574
Thanks guys. It makes the machine look bigger to me:confused:. They don't look as scale as the Mil Spec tires but I don't think they look too bad and the price was right. They are really soft too so traction should be very good. I was concerned that they would get too much bite on the shop floor and not steer but they actually turn better than the stock tires. It even has a little realistic bounce to it now! Pouring down rain here today so no outside tests yet I guess:(.
Brian, did you get the bucket on yours yet? |

Re: Liebherr 574
Tired loading some dirt this evening with the new tires. I have been drying some gravel in the shop for weeks and it was pouring outside so I made this haywire little deal in the back of my pickup. Fun for the loader, boring for the Hayes. The loader works great with the new tires and wheels. It does steer a little harder with a bucket of dirt but once it's rolling slightly it works great! For a conversion I really enjoy playing with this.

Re: Liebherr 574
Very nice job Reg but as all thr rest it lacks reach to get over the sides of the box and dump and come back with out hitting the box. You had to have a ramp like all the rest. Ed
|
Re: Liebherr 574
Yeah the difference in scale doesn't work in their favor that's for sure. Oh well, it is what it is.
|
Re: Liebherr 574
I'm confused? My loader clears the box with no ramp at all. With full up and bucket dumped I can still just clear the box edge. I've got no cheater boards on my truck but surprised to see you need such a ramp.
It must be my hyd cylinders have more range than the firgelli actuators ? |

Re: Liebherr 574
The weather has been absolutely gorgeous here the last three days so I threw some paint at the wheels and bucket this morning. I have some slower gear motors coming so it may have to come apart soon for that but otherwise I consider this to be done:D!
http://i1293.photobucket.com/albums/...ps7a5a3432.jpg http://i1293.photobucket.com/albums/...psb3ee90d9.jpg http://i1293.photobucket.com/albums/...psc6440a28.jpg http://i1293.photobucket.com/albums/...ps9b35d1f6.jpg http://i1293.photobucket.com/albums/...psf339792c.jpg http://i1293.photobucket.com/albums/...pse925b63b.jpg Thanks for looking! |
Re: Liebherr 574
The loader looks great Reg! But do me a favour and get rid of that awful, ugly plastic exhaust stack!:cop::lol:
FYI. If you have a stock Tamiya exhaust tip laying around, they fit nicely over top the plastic one.:) http://i1174.photobucket.com/albums/...s0b69a1b4.jpeg |
Re: Liebherr 574
Reg, the loader turned out great! Now let's see you scrape the paint back off the bucket:D:D
|
Re: Liebherr 574
While I am still holding out on Mario's exhaust request I did finally receive my order from China that contained the new slower gear motors for this today. After work I made the swap and was very pleased with the results! I went from 133rpm to 77rpm and I think it is the perfect speed!

Re: Liebherr 574
It's your loader Reg, do to it what you wish:D
Just giving a heads up on another spot for metal rather than plastic. The new motors definitely have a much better speed and I can see why you like this build, it works pretty darn good! |
Re: Liebherr 574
Quote:
Your "tip" to change out the exhaust is a good one Mario. I just haven't made up the piece yet. I wish the whole thing was metal... If I had more time for my own projects it would be having an all metal cousin sitting next to it in the very near future. I still enjoy running the hoe more but the wheel loader is a blast too! I just wish it was a touch more industrial... |
Re: Liebherr 574
Hi Reg. Love the build and decided to try as well. How ever cant take the wheels off...
Help? |
Re: Liebherr 574
Cool! I cut the axles in half and stuck the stub in the drill holding the tire in my hand. Creates a little heat and pulls right apart. I tried to do it by hand but couldn't get them to budge. Hope that makes sense and helps.
