Thank You Much, Emil. I'm delighted with this truck, fun to build, and very fun to drive. Some functions still need to be finished, and over to the paint shop.

Re: KH Beam Hauler
Thank You, NRS91. I sent my design to Chris Maurer, NY, and he made them for me. I think he can make more of them.

Re: KH Beam Hauler
After 15 minutes of prepping and wet sanding, the final coat of primer is on. Not bad at all.

Re: KH Beam Hauler
Smart work Bo!
Any suggestions for stripping the chrome off the rear mudflap brackets? |
Re: KH Beam Hauler
Thanks, NSR91, (Wish I knew your real name by now.)
Yes. I use this product as it comes, don't dilute it, just use it concentrated, The plastic/PVC parts can stay for weeks, no worries of harm to them. Overnight soaking should be enough for most parts, longer if needed. The more times you soak parts, the weaker the bleach gets. All you need to do after the soak is rinse the pieces thoroughly and wet sand with 400-1000 grit for the paint to hold too. P.S. I dechrome almost all parts. Not a fan of chromed parts on a work truck |

Re: KH Beam Hauler
That's a really sharp Merc outfit. Was it an old tamiya body, or Freddy custom?
Are the trailer tires supposed to have that much offset? Looks good either way. |
Re: KH Beam Hauler
Thanks, Frizzen. Yes, Freddy cut that body and made it to a day cab, model short. The Trailer has the longer axles, 140mm. I think duals have 120mm if I remember right. After the Merc, I will rebuild the Trailer to extendable, the trombone type and more axles, of course.

Re: KH Beam Hauler
Thank You, Nick. I have a good feeling about your project. I will Have your product Incorporated in my fleet. The original Tamiya axles are right, and if they get tuned tight when built, they will last a long time. I have axles with far more than three hundred hours on them, still running smooth. So let's have the two current Mercedes on the bench run your front axles.
I am looking forward to working with you. Nick. |

Re: KH Beam Hauler
The Mesh is extremely important on casted gears; There is no shortcut at that.
However, Tamiya does not make metal parts in the house. Therefore the gearbox has two different pressure angles on the gears, Old standard and new. Witch makes the gear to go down faster than it would with the same pressure angles. Now Japan is a monoculture, so the boss does not know that, and a new gearbox or axles will not be on the horizon for some time. But the work so I stick with them. |
