So what voltage are you planning to run Elliot? 3s, 4s lipo or 10cell NiMH? The final axle speed seems slow on my adt too, but with a big tire afix to it, it moves pretty quick.

You're moving right along with the build... I should build this way too, before painting parts to find the trouble spots, but I have this resolute about doing things twice ...and all too often it happens anyway. :D

Yes, the wheel speed did seem slow, but as you say, I think the large wheels will mean a faster ground speed. Although, I do prefer to drive them scale like, if that makes sense, ie slow.!

Ref batteries, I think its designed for 12volts, or at least thats what everybody seems to use.

Depending on room in the engine bay will determine what type of battery I use. I've used Lipo's in the past, but I've noticed a new battery on the market, Lifepo, they seem to have a large capacity for a fairly small size and they're voltage is very similar to Nimh

I prefer to build it prior to painting, so I can ensure everything fits before painting. I used to be a measure once, cut twice kind if guy, but having had to do everything twice, I'm now a measure twice, cut once :D

I see on the packaging of my track,swing motors for the vario hoe with a voltage range up to 15v too... so I wondered if these motors were designed for 4s lipo in mind? :confused:

Joe, looks like a nice model, well designed, like those lasercut parts!
Good source for geared motors, and I like your workbench too, cleanest I´ve seen and it comes with heating posibilities (:>)

Yeah, my motors label also states they will run between 4.5volts and 15volts. The biggest problem is finding a speed control that will handle the higher voltages.

I'm used to RC car stuff, running 2S or 3S type batteries. I think 4S Lipo would be a little too high as a charged lipo is over 4.2volts per cell.

But these 4S Lifepo cells http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...dProduct=14067 seem like a good replacement for the 12volt nicads/nimh. From what I have read they are the A123 cells that were used in the dewalt power tool range, they are stable and less prone to bursting into flames.

I need to do a lot more reading, but they also appear to have a 2000+ life cycle? However, you'd need to buy new chargers :mad:

Yes it is well designed and very strong, its the first time I've seen and used laser cut parts and amazed how accurate everything is.

Unfortunately the wife wanted to use my workbench tonight, something about cooking dinner... the cheek of it! :D So now I am confined to the cold workshop.... although I might bring it back in after supper!

Funny you should mention "bursting into flame's". I encountered that problem over to a friend's shop, just before locking up one night. Kinda spooky to think the dang battery could of burned the shop down! Later, Neil#2 aka doodlebug.

Im very leary of using lipos..there was a fella on the garden that lost a.truck while charging..bummer..Anyway Elliot congrats ...looks like a very well built machine...I see a few hoses and fittings..Did you get the pump with your order?..Is it the same one thats used with the excavators?..thanks for sharing the great photos ...Cheers lou

Hi Joe, I spoke with Frank and confirmed what batteries he recommended, the reply was either 3S lipo or 10cell Nimh.

I've read stories of peoples houses burning down... Lipo's are good batteries, but really need a lot of care and attention. Never let them charge with constant observation... :eek:

The other big problem with running them in our type models, is you must never let the cell run completley down, that also ruins them... better and safer to run Nimh...:)

Hi Lou, its very strong and I am very happy with the way the parts fit together.. and quickly as well, it engineered to take a lot of weight.

Ref the hydraulics, there are two options I believe, one with hydraulics one without. I went for the one with. It comes with everything, pipe, fittings etc. I assembled the pump last night... photos will be online tonight.

Not sure if the pump is the same, I will ask Frank when I next speak to him.

Thank Ari, although its put the tipper build on hold for the moment :-)

Still not sure on the colour, was going for the Bell yellow, but after seeing the white ones... not so sure.???

Little bit of an update....

Well, after three evenings work, to cutout, file, sand, grind and glue the cab together… doesn’t look a lot of work from the three photos, but it took about 10 hours in total and was my least favorite job to date …

Looking good Elliot! I was under the impression all of the pieces would be assembly ready, guess not. I vote for Deere colors (black/yellow).

Thanks... I'd say its 95% ready to be bolted together, the cab section comes with all the excess around the edges, and this needs to be removed prior to fitting... Kind of hard to explain! I will try and find a picture..

Here's a picture of how it arrive, so you can see it needs to be cutout of the mould.

Thanks for posting photo's of your build, I really like the way this kit is designed. Very strong, looks like it is made to be used in the environment..
are you going with hyd steering or are you going to go with electric, I went with electric in my ADT and I really enjoy it.. Smooth and always returns to centre..
