http://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/...2-31221305.jpg http://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/...2-31221248.jpg the trailer will actually be almost 4" shorter, just wanted to get a pic of the frame together. according to my finger and toe counting, im about 2' 10" overlength in scale measurements :D :D :D |
Re: First Build - King Hauler
Good looking truck man like the paint job.
|
Re: First Build - King Hauler
Your trailer's main frame is looking really nice. Great start to a drop deck! Did you cut and curve the webs off the rear rails to flow into the drop, from the rear? That's a nice touch.

my machine shop consists of a scroll saw, 18v drill and some files, so it isnt anything too elaborate! i notched the suspension frame and bent the top over a piece of 1/8" i cut out to give it the curved look of a fontaine double drop. i plan on getting some aluminum brazing supplies and trying my hand at that. http://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/...1-01113851.jpg |
Re: First Build - King Hauler
Well its update time.
re did the frame rails and traded out russ's old style air ride for the new, stretched the frame a little and added some goodies. work truck bumper and center rear bumper from russ also, the rims are IHB and the tanks i trimmed the step mounts off the stock ones and flipped them. (thanks dwayne) its still in mock up as there are a few more things to change but ive got the basics down, and it drives now! although quietly, but it does. the pics arent the best but it was early (or late? 4am anyway) when i was taking them http://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/...ps2370188f.jpg http://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/...ps55603205.jpg http://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/...ps83f4e3b4.jpg http://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/...ps36843669.jpg http://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/...ps01b6e03f.jpg |
Re: First Build - King Hauler
Looking sweet Dude! I like how the chicken lights are incorporated into the sleeper skirts . Can't wait to see it all lit up!
Mario Oh yeah, the driveshaft looks real beefy! Is that a rc4wd shaft? |
Re: First Build - King Hauler
Quote:
the drive shaft is a $11 special. if you look back in this thread i made a lift axle from some copper pipe and gorilla glue...... where i learned just how strong gorilla glue is. its a piece of 1/2" styrene tube with traxxas driveshafts glued in the ends :D also, i spread the drives out to scale 60" spread, and made a small driveshaft the same way. http://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/...ps4484b72d.jpg |
Re: First Build - King Hauler
Looking good man, i like the longer spread on the rear drives
|

Re: First Build - King Hauler
Nice updates, Goose! Keep'em coming. I know that's not easy this time of year. My own build has lost some momentum with summer, but nice to still see some progress. Looking at your trailer photo and your explanation of the webbing, I see exactly what you did. Nice.
|
Re: First Build - King Hauler
I have wanted to see finished your trailer
|
Re: First Build - King Hauler
This is a awesome build.Like the trailer so far.I'm gonna try building my own lowboy myself.

Re: First Build - King Hauler
so, once upon a time, long long ago, i drew up a grill for this truck. i finally got around to sending it off to russ, and this is what i got back :D
http://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/...ps88d2edef.jpg http://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/...ps45b52565.jpg now somewhere along the line my crayola crayons got mixed up and the grill came out a touch long.....i think it was the program i originally drew it up with didnt agree with the milling program. not sure what im going to do about it, but even at that, it looks alot perty-er with a grill and headlights. :D its hard to see without the backing i have yet to make, im thinkin some screen painted silver or black. |

http://carsfolia.com/data_images/new...th-w900-01.jpg It should look good, help hide the spacing, and make an amazing build look just that much better. Good luck. - RCT |
Re: First Build - King Hauler
You could also have the front bumper notched to fit around the bottom of the grille. Wouldn't look that out of place either. Some Kenworth trucks have such an arrangement. Your grille does look pretty nice though!

Re: First Build - King Hauler

im never putting that many lights that close together again thats for sure! ive still got a bunch to get in the bumper yet aswell |
Re: First Build - King Hauler
in that case then you will never have to use your headlights to see or be seen :p:p
|
Re: First Build - King Hauler
Awsom
|
Re: First Build - King Hauler
I would just extend the fenders down and leave it alone. I looks more like W900L now they always look like the shell is long , taller and narrow. Just my 2 cents. I would like that grill with the 7 bars in it. Ed
