That is going together nicely! Can we see a closeup of the grill? That has some nice detail to it.

Robbert that is truly outstanding craftsmanship.. I know you said the picks would be worth the wait on the phone and you were more than right.. Keep up the great work..

Re: 140H Grader

The grille and fan look to be a very good printing. The paint and detail are amazing. Its hard to believe this is wood.

Re: 140H Grader

Thanks guys for all the kind words...... they help me stay focused at times. It's been a long build but its finally coming together. I am working on the interior while i wait for the pump/valves to get here.

Thanks again!

Re: 140H Grader

Rob, truly fine craftsmanship. My first though when I looked at the first pic, looking at the back of the motor was how the heck did he make that fan look so real. It wasn't till I looked at the lights that I realized it was a print of a real one. I know how small of an LED you can get and they come small but not small enough to put that many of them in that size space..

Re: 140H Grader

Isn't that kind of cheating to use a pic of the grill instead of making the grill and fan:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes: It does look very real! With most of this build being wood, it is still unbelievable the way you make it look like metal.

Re: 140H Grader

Wow. The painted parts look just like die-cast metal or something similar! I know it's wood, but seriously, no one would know the difference, unless you told them, or they felt the model with their own hands. Super clean paint job.

Great work Rob !
Can't wait to see it moving dirt, it will be alot of fun moving dirt. We could sure use it up North for finishing up all the dirt roads we build.

Thanks guys. In the past two wks, I have had two toy show, so progress has been a lil slow, plus I am still awaiting the pump and stuff. I am workign on the interior while i wait.

DirtP9: I will probably need a block of instructions on how to run this thing after i get it all together.:D

Re: 140H Grader

Grader really looking good. Still can't believe that so much is wood, but doesn't look like it. I'm not coordinated enough to run a real grader, so I am waiting to see you operate this rig! Keep up the great work!

Re: 140H Grader

I made the protection brackets, the bottom plate and tow hitch. I didn't want to have all that open space in the rear. I am going to make somewhat of a motor to look the part.

Remarkable craftsmanship Robert, no one would ever guess it's made from wood. Keep the pics coming.

Re: 140H Grader

Wow, that's good :). How did you worked the surface that the paint looks so smooth? Did you fill the tyres or are they just hollow?

9W Monighan 03-17-2011 10:13 AM

Re: 140H Grader

You would make one heck of a pattern maker with the way you can make that wood do what you want!

tc1cat 03-17-2011 10:31 AM

Re: 140H Grader

Pattern maker-HA- more like a pro model maker, museum quality models that is!! I do believe this tops your ag-sprayer and cotton bail truck.

Re: 140H Grader

Thanks all for the kind words, but "pro", no not me, i just have a habit of trying to pay attention to the details. Patience goes a long ways in this hobby.

tc1cat- when iset out to build a model, i look for something to challenge me

9W- thats how i got suckered into building two Globe Theatre's for Romeo and Juliet set while in High Sch.....it was fun to do

Lorenzo-To get the paint to look smooth, i cover the wood with glass cloth, then sand, fill, sand to the touch

Lil Giants and Trucker47, those words mean alot coming from your guys!

Thanks again:D

Did you use fine weave or a silk when covering? & did you use glass reason or an instant glue to bond it on with?
A truly remarkable bit of wood work, well done
Tim

Tim, i used fine-weave cloth and CA. I also used gap-filler CA. There is also a lite-filler called balsa Rite. I use that after the first or second sanding to get low places or maybe where i sanded thru the cloth.

I agree! Totally insane level of detail here, Rob. Incredible work. I don't care what you call yourself, but I think you are more then worthy of the term 'pro'. Good work.
