Izzy wasn't that bad at loading, needling him a little! You don't want me using the excavator!! You would be replacing parts not just have some scars

Re: 6X6 Quarry Dump Truck
I decided to update the box on this truck. I had a 4x8 sheet of styrene curled up in the corner not doing anything. Then I figured I'd try a screw drive. Took the existing box and LESU scissor lift off and sit it aside for use on a trailer.
Here's my progress on the lift parts: http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...psiz7evrmx.jpg http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...pszyzzbfjh.jpg http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...psmkoonp9q.jpg http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...ps3z4cezqu.jpg Thanks for looking! Kent |
Re: 6X6 Quarry Dump Truck
Just a suggestion on you screw drive. On mine I found that the furniture drive nuts didn't last long being metal on metal. I just replaced the slider block and drilled and taped right through with the thread. Delron itself is very slippery and I find I can lift a bigger load faster with the new block. One thing though is you have to have a very sharp tap as it doesn't cut the best if it's dull

Re: 6X6 Quarry Dump Truck
Thanks Rob good to know. This is my first shot a screw drive so I'm kinda playing as I go to see what tweaks I need to do. I still need to figure out my lift cylinder/rod length and how to attach it to the Delron. I like that LESU left but I figured it was time to learn how to do this.:D

Re: 6X6 Quarry Dump Truck
That motor will have TONS of power for a truck box! Looking good!

Re: 6X6 Quarry Dump Truck
It's been a while but I'm still updating this build. I've got the new dump box on it. Those that showed up at the Lebanon meet seen it. Made the front bumper and grille gaurd, they aren't done yet but are getting close. Next on the list for this build will be, finish the dump box with some details, improve my tailgate latch, make a hydraulic tank and mud guards for it.

Re: 6X6 Quarry Dump Truck
That new bumper and grill guard really set it off!

Re: 6X6 Quarry Dump Truck
Looking GOOD Kent! I like both the bumper and grill guard. I agree with Reg, it realy sets it off.

Re: 6X6 Quarry Dump Truck
So I'm done with list for now. I'm looking for a scale looking battery box for left side, D rings for the front bumper and need to put taillights in the rear, but I have other projects I really want to get to like the pup trailer for this thing and the list goes on!

Re: 6X6 Quarry Dump Truck
Big, badass truck :) Looks good. Could have use for that in my own quarry...

Re: 6X6 Quarry Dump Truck
Looks great! Can't wait to see it in person at Indy!

Re: 6X6 Quarry Dump Truck
Here's a couple quick pictures of a dolly I made to pull a pup trailer behind my 6x6. The hitch is removable so I can install a short standard style hitch for pulling doubles. I haven't built the short hitch yet.

Re: 6X6 Quarry Dump Truck
Fanstasic build!! :) I'm curious about the walking beam setup. Does it have any straight bump/droop travel? For example, on level ground as you increase the load in the bed, would the suspension begin to compress at all? It looks like the only suspension movement is when it's articulating, but perhaps I missed something in the build?
Can't believe how small it makes those tires look! I love it. :D |
Re: 6X6 Quarry Dump Truck
Thank you for the comments TommyR:D
The rear suspension is based on a Hendrickson "R" model solid mount suspension. http://www.hendrickson-intl.com/Truc...ional/R-Series The truck was based off a Western Star 6900XD which has larger tires. Before I could find the tires I wanted these kinda grew on me and when it's loaded and off road the it'll stuff the tires. They also work very well off road. So I decided to leave well enough alone. At least for now,:lol:;) |
Re: 6X6 Quarry Dump Truck
Ah ha! And now I know. :) Thanks!
|
Re: 6X6 Quarry Dump Truck
wow lots of progress! amazing!
|
Re: 6X6 Quarry Dump Truck
Nice Dolly! I'd suggest moving the 5th wheel hitch forward to get the 5th wheel pin centered over the suspension on the dolly, to get a level ride with no porpoising.

Sorry about photos folks, you can thank photobucket for their greed.

Re: 6X6 Quarry Dump Truck
Found a new photo host thanks to Lil Giants.
For those new to the forum, this is the subject of this build thread. I am currently upgrading the screw drive and finalizing the connection to the pup trailer. More pictures coming soon! https://s20.postimg.org/5s8dkusr1/35...dcbb7f9f_o.jpg |
Re: 6X6 Quarry Dump Truck
How are you uploading now? I'm still using Photo$ucket but I know my account will be gone next year so I need to switch things up.

Re: 6X6 Quarry Dump Truck
Updated the screw drive on this thing. Took a while to find a lathe to use for five minutes. Got it done, just need to test it with weight. It is much faster.

Re: 6X6 Quarry Dump Truck
Nice looking screw drive Kent! It almost looks like a CNC's ball screw. With the right RPM motor on it that should work great.
|
Re: 6X6 Quarry Dump Truck
Nice, what thread is on the screw. ? You can come and use my lathe any time, but I'm in Toronto......
|
Re: 6X6 Quarry Dump Truck
Yes, this is really nicely built but I have a question that I hope wasn't already discussed.
Will this area be sealed up against dirt and exposure? |
Re: 6X6 Quarry Dump Truck
Looks good. Is it the same thread as the Servonaut screw drives?

Thanks for the links Kent!
8mm per rev movement, that is very nice. I bookmarked that one for sure. I'm really getting to like Servocity. |
