Lol! If that was the dog cutting skin, I would be missing an arm!! You can see big dummy in the pic with the inspector.

This is what wakes me up every morning at first light,,,, by biting my arm!!!! No need for an alarm clock, every morning , snooze button is his furry little butt going for a flight across room!! Lol!!!

Working on um. Have all the parts and a few extras if needed. Now for some good fumes to inhale before bed, souls have some good dreams!! For these I'm using silver solder, and same for attaching brass rings to trailer frame.

Out of curiosity what are you cutting that brass with?

I'm using a 30" shear/brake/roll to cut the brass and have a 12" brake that is a little more precise for small stuff.

If it's not a cat biting me it's a dog licking!! I see you have a set of fangs to fight against for your chair!! Lol!! My wife should be very thankful I love her as much because I'm really not that much of an animal lover, one cat and one dog is (well was) my animal limit!! But it is fun to haul the cat around in the trucks!!!

Got all 22 of the extension supports done, just a couple pics of the process I came up with.

I was using a piece of wire to elevate the plate for a centering lift, it soldered to the brass, I added too much solder.

Turned a piece of aluminum to use for a spacer and that worked for the rest of them.

Had to add more than the usual heat needed as the aluminum jig was acting like a giant heat sink, just took a little longer to get up to flowing temp.

Yes I'm really happy with them, after the third one I knew how much heat and where to apply. Then they started becoming easy and looking well!! Now if I could get my welding better!!! I had some stay-bright from Harris welding that I used to hard solder the little brass rings to frame, that stuff works great and didn't need too much heat. I made a 1/8" aluminum shaft to align them and rubbed a tiny bit of oil on the alum as a contaminant to help the solder not stick to shaft for assembly. Have to go to Wally-world and when I get back I'll try and post some more pics of progress. I have been soldering the wheel well parts instead of tacking, I think for the strength the frame will bend before any welds break. Everything is a learning curve :).

I really want to blast this whole thing but my cabinet didn't fit the trailer after wheel frame was attached. Might have to get some dry sand and use the big one at work. Mikem , I know I said I was going to use bass work for decking and not going to use alder, but when I went and looked in the wood pile I found some dark oak or maybe some other dark wood that I forgot it had. I'm pretty sure it's oak. Anyway I'm going to use that and was thinking of using a wood burner to make plank lines and still use one solid piece for each side. Am planning on cutting some strips that will be glued on bottom side to act as a clamp to hold wood down. Only steel I have to do is a couple strips to tack between gooseneck arms on topside for someway to attach wood. I want to make that to be able to give somewhat incase neck doesn't raise completely square. This may end up getting some "weathering " for a paint scheme. Figure a flat/ eggshell black, not too shiny.

How about scribing lines in the oak or whatever with a 1/32 mill cutter instead of burning . I just cut some T and G for a tender for a loco I'm building .100 x .445 which scales out to 1 3/4 x 6 planks . then glueing them all together again for the deck . If you can find out if it's white oak it would be better than red oak . When I get back to building my wooden float I will use alder or ash . But your trailer looks awesome and won't burn like mine would ! Mike

Mikem I originally had the idea of milling plank lines in a solid piece and staining the grooves for the appearance of planks. The wood I have is 1/8" thick. Now that you mentioned that I may do that, only thing is I have to tear down the mill some to get the piece to lay flat on table. Might be a good time to clean out underside of slides anyway.

This is what I was thinking about doing for decking. I'm probably going back to using the bass wood, the oak I have is really thin and I was basing my decking on 1/8". The oak is less than that and doesn't allow for a very good elevation lineup for the side boards. I don't have the tools to shave precision numbers off wood. And am trying to have side board extensions housed in middle of deck.

Ahh got you guys,,,,, and this is the reason I don't get paid to do this stuff :). It looks like all these types of trailers leave the frame ibeams exposed and wood decking is flush with top of steel. I did not research enough I guess. ;). Hummm maybe a alteration is in need. Or it may be one of those trailer manufactuers that has gone out of business because of a poor design :). Lol!! I guess I better not name it Great Dane trailer manufactuering ,lol!!! And I also realized I should have made some sort of alignment with where planks but up against each other. They don't match up to frame supports. Guess I got a bit ahead of myself to get-er-done!!!
