No. That's my hotrod Duramax, it's an 09 that I got the spring of 12. The trk in the foreground is a 10 & it's gas, I got it last spring. It's my beater for around the farm. I don't drive the 09 too often, just when I need to haul something on the gooseneck or go on vacation. I took the 09 to St. Louis in Oct 2012, avg about 23mpg imperial ga. The 10 does half that beating around the farm... I took the 10 to Calgary for xmas & got about 17mpg. Park the 09 for the winter, don't want to start it in such cold weather nor drive it through slushy salt.

Can't remember the last time I had to put a wrench on the 850, it's been a while! There's getting to be a wee bit of movement on the left side of boom pivot... I don't think my mini mill is big enough to mount up the boom to bore a new hole for a bushing.

Reg? :)

Well Joe you can't say you did not get any use out of it. If you are getting slop in the bushing you should put brass sleves in and you might get away with just reaming the holes for the sleves. I hope you don't have any trouble getting that broken rod end out just in case you forget heat that a little it probably has lock tight on it. Ed

Re: LilGiantsConstrCO

:jaw::eek: I guess it's safe to say your not a firm believer of preventative maintenance Joe? :p. All started with a worn bushing that became a worn bore, stick damage and now a snapped rod...... I've worked at mine sites like that! :D

Lil Giants 06-15-2015 09:33 PM

Re: LilGiantsConstrCO

Well aren't you cheeky there Mario... it doesn't have a bushing, never did.... the only pivot point on the entire model that didn't for some reason.

I never locktite the head into the rod, so I got the broken thread rod out no problem.

I've about had my fill of exercise this spring with chasing that dump trk around, I was ready to bring in my FEL to clean up the last of the pile to take to the north side of shop, then I thought of this... it's not cheating. :D

No im sorry , that is kinda cheating.
its not a shovel digging the hole but im sure there would be a few owner operators saying they missed out on transport costs.LOL.
I had to comment as ive done the same to transport the dirt to my indoor digging area.
Sorry for being cheeky.

Cheers andy

Deck trl is working out good, filled it 4x now in the last week... 2-3hrs to fill it before dark, then hide in the shade next afternoon to push it off. ;)

I put new teeth on the dig bucket. The old teeth were getting pretty short & dull. These teeth are about 30% narrower than the last & rip the hard ground with greater ease

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...ps8azjfq4d.jpg

Cleaning up the last of the pile right down to the gravel, might be another cy.

WHAT?

Re: LilGiantsConstrCO

haha :D just kidding

My 7x30 lathe looked so much bigger when it was in my house... in these pics it looks like a 3x10.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...pswljuqyew.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...ps1jsala6o.jpg

Last week my contractor cut a hole in the back room, now I have a door into my lean-to, Kent, and a window too :D

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...psifzpprkd.jpg

Today my contractor was back again (it was him & one of his workers that carried my 300# lathe out :D) to spray foam insulate lean-to and finish cement work in front of shop and between lean-to & house.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...psshfyvkik.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...ps4gd3s87w.jpg

I was a little surprised to see the remaining gap filled with foam too...

Got a bit of dozer work to do to tidy up front of pad. ;)

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...ps8judxern.jpg

Now just the electrician to do his thing with a few lights, a few outlets & add another electric heater, hopefully by the end of month. Then the "Lil Big Dig!" will begin :D

Haha, I was hoping you were just fooling around! I thought to myself, "If I was stealing his stuff I would have taken that chunk of round stock".lol

I remember when we were building our shop. It looked just like that with lots of open space. 4 1/2 years later and that is not the case anymore....

Joe-your shop is really shaping up. This will be a 1st. class workshop with plenty of room and comfortable working conditions. I would have a hard time getting the farm work done with this sitting close by but I guess the farm work is what pays for this huh.

So you finally found the door, good for you!:lol::lol::lol:

All seriousness aside, It looks good Joe! I guess its time to buy a bigger lathe and mill so they fit better:p.

Re: LilGiantsConstrCO

Farm work is getting less & less with each hail storm this summer, #4 rolled through this afternoon with approximate 20mm diameter stones... amazingly it didn't dent my vehicles at all or break any windows in the house or shop, but it's 100% damage on more than half the farm. Pretty much the entire farm has seen hail this yr, which is a 1st in my 30yrs being here. Uncertain at this point if it will be a quick harvest or a long drawn out event, but it definitely won't be plentiful.

Getting this shop buttoned up & in full working order, as well as a new dig site to start will be a great distraction for sure. ;)

Re: LilGiantsConstrCO

Is there crop insurance for something like that?

Lil Giants 07-14-2015 08:34 PM

Re: LilGiantsConstrCO

There is... but the premiums are ridiculously expensive & I rarely get such weather, so I have no insurance for immediate compensation.

I'm involved with a different gov't program that I can seek compensation from, 2 or 3 yrs from now... so I'm not totally screwed. :)

Yes indeed Shawn, got a few little projects to get after, for sure. ;)

This past week I loaded the deck trl a couple more times to get the last dirt cleaned up in front of house... round about 10cy was there by the end of April & started moving it right after spring planting May 22nd.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...pspopbqk8r.jpg

The last couple of cubes at the back of shop (north end), still needs more dirt to elevate the grade, probably won't happen this yr.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...psme6hwv4j.jpg

Anyways... moving back inside, out of the elements & the bugs!!! YAY!!! :D

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...psjy3urvwf.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...ps6h0rasaq.jpg

Here's the official start of the Lil Big Dig tunnel project.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...psicrcasyl.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...psldbw4ivk.jpg

For now, the dug dirt will be dumped & levelled into the north end of lean-to to level the grade, as it drops a little over a foot at the north end... short haul!

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...psakqpresd.jpg

If I recall my calculations from last yr correctly, this other back room needs just over 20cy to bring it up to level with the cement of the middle room. Pretty much all the dirt from the tunnel will fill these two rooms, won't be much to haul out, if any.

Great to see the new project has begun! :bounce: it's been an exciting year for the rc construction site forum and great to see so many getting into it:)
The first tunnel build.... Only seems appropriate that you would be the pioneer and spearhead this new RC endeavour Joe.
I got my popcorn ready and looking forward to the next couple months / years ? might be a short haul but it's still gonna be RC epic! :D:lol:

Lil Giants 07-26-2015 04:30 PM

Re: LilGiantsConstrCO

I was measuring outside between house & lean-to this morning, tunnel will be about 11ft in length x 5ft width x 7ft height = 14.26cy + elevated grade to ground level inside lean-to, maybe another 10cy.

I hope I can it make it last 2-3 yrs Mario, cause after this I don't know what I'll do for another dirt work project, not indoors anyway.

Re: LilGiantsConstrCO

Hi joe-another great project. This should be fun to watch!! I'm not real clear on how the direction and lay-out of the tunnel will be but I am sure it will become clear as you get into it. You said all the dirt will stay inside. That should be some short trips for dumping and save on batteries. I will be watching.

Re: LilGiantsConstrCO

I had my 1st ever visitor from the forum at my farm last week, tracks&treadslou stopped by while visiting his son a few hrs away.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...ps1y235ihy.jpg

Lou showed me this great photo trick using the camera on my IPhone for a panoramic shot.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...pstqvf2z69.jpg

Basically Tom I'm going straight south 11ft to where I come out in the basement just behind the water heater, numerous vids in the past, "Digging out under West Porch" & others.

This is what I've gotten done in the last week, hole is 14" deep x 5ft wide & approx. 4ft long.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...psqbbpnecs.jpg

The pile in the back smoothed out with the dozer...

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...psftv7e5w3.jpg

Over the weekend I was trying to fit these packer wheels to the 4206... I got these from IHSteve about a yr ago.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...psdfdc1abg.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...psdecfj34r.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...psun89iuch.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...psouxiwbzj.jpg

...I was originally going to mount them on the Fumotec WA 500 loader, that I haven't built yet, the axle profile is a wee bit different, so I have to machine 12mm width collar so I can position the cleaner bar exactly so... got one wheel mounted so far, hopefully get some time this week to get the other three buttoned up & get busy packing.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...psy9xk8sqv.jpg

I got this drawbar packer from Dieselchopper last October while attending the Model Engineering show in Estevan. I tried to pull it with the 4206 with just rubber tires & it just sat & spun, the packer is that heavy to pull. Now with 10# packer wheel on each corner, should be no problem! ;)

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...psrkt8v9vz.jpg

Anyways, about a month away from harvest, lots of hail from mid June to mid July creating delays, but lots to do to get ready. Plus I don't want dirt piles in the electrician's way while he installs lights & plugins, hopefully he shows up in the next week to get that done.

modelman 08-05-2015 01:26 PM

Re: LilGiantsConstrCO

Joe-I like that panoramic picture. Your north & south etc. directions is what gets me confused but that's okay. I will just watch your progress and I am sure you have it planned out perfectly. Could you explain a little about how the digging will proceed. I don't think excavators do too well on a flat wall (do they) or will you dig down and then move and dig down again. I like the packer wheels and the pull packer. Those should do a good job.

Should be a good job for the company, and keep those Union guys running your equipment happy!! :) keep the pics of the new build coming.

Looks good joe!!

Lil Giants 08-06-2015 11:34 PM

Re: LilGiantsConstrCO

Tom, the length of the house is east/west & the length of the shop is north/south, exiting the SE corner of the shop into the NW corner of the house.
I'll dig down about 16 inches below the cement & then all the way across till I get to the basement, then dig down to the 7ft level in layers. On the to do list will be a water tanker body on the back of the green GL with a remotely operated water cannon to keep the face of the wall moist as I dig across. I think the ripper tooth & dig bucket of JD850 will do fine.

Rob, Lou's visit wasn't 24hrs even, had just barely enough time to give him a quick tour.

Got a few projects in the works Emil & a good area now to get 'em done.

No kidding Kent, didn't take long to use up 48ft! Gotta do some more shelving & organizing.

It was quite enjoyable to be in there last winter Cooper, and now with a dig project in there too, perfect!

The width of the packer is surprisingly just right Shawn, it fills the gap between the packer drives, almost like it was planned! :D

The electrician came today to put in the lights... oh so sweetly bright in there now!

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...psasdx1zvo.jpg

Hole is 5ft x 5ft x 1.15ft deep = 28.75 cu ft... just over a cy done already! ...about another 30 some to go. :D
