Re: CAT 535C Grapple Skidder
nice work isn't it cool to see everything work like it should when it is built?......nice job and well done

Re: CAT 535C Grapple Skidder
Here's another video. It seems my problem is a low voltage supply causeing the speed control to act up. Anyone have a good replacement to recommend? I am using a sabertooth 2-25a.

Re: CAT 535C Grapple Skidder
Hey ben add another seperate receiver pack ..Had that same problem
|
Re: CAT 535C Grapple Skidder
So Lou, 2 receiver battery packs?
Ben |
Re: CAT 535C Grapple Skidder
Edit: Just saw that you already run a receiver pack. Unless this is very weak, my following text won't apply to you.
If you are relying on the ESC's BEC and your servos draw a lot of current, the BEC might break down, which shuts off the receiver and hence the servos' current draw. Then, the system comes back to life, with the control stick at whatever position it was and the self-learning ESC takes this as the new neutral. So maybe, all you need is a stronger external BEC? I use 5 cells of my 12V pack (it's actually a double 6V pack) to power my receiver. Not ideal, but enough grunt. Cheers Jens |
Re: CAT 535C Grapple Skidder
Where did you get the tires from? Are they about 30.5-32?
|
Re: CAT 535C Grapple Skidder
use a 5v voltage regulator and eliminate the need for receiver packs. U can buy them for under $2 at radio shack.
|
Re: CAT 535C Grapple Skidder
I am not familiar with RadioShack's products, but if you mean the simple 3-pin electronic part that regulates the input voltage down to 5V, this is not the ideal solution:
They typically do not cope with the high currents modern servos need and they are very inefficient, as they waste the extra power as heat. A proper BEC would be better - or a strong battery, if the space is sufficient. If you know of a 2USD part that does not suffer from the disadvantages I mentioned, could you please provide a link, I'd be seriously and honestly interested. |

Re: CAT 535C Grapple Skidder
I have run it for 10- 20 mins with the steering servo unhooked without any problems. So my problem does lies with the introduction of the servo. Any suggestions?
Ben |
Re: CAT 535C Grapple Skidder
Could be the servo, ive have 2 that make my DX7 go nuts but also could be the high current load. Id try another servo (unmounted) to see I had a look but couldnt see how easy it was to access and swap that said its a fair bulk to shift mechanically.
Im guessing $2 part mentioned is the 2905 IC these are limited to ~500mA - not enough for your requirements. |
Re: CAT 535C Grapple Skidder
I guess I have killed my steering servo (Hitec- HSR-5990TG) at Indy. I just took it apart tonight, makes noise but no movement. The gears all look good inside, I'm not sure is wrong.
Heavy Duty or RC farmer- if you wouldn't mind can you post the video you guys got of it in action while @ Indy here for me. I don't have much or very good video of my own. Ben |
Re: CAT 535C Grapple Skidder
Here are a couple videos shot at Indy . Thanks rcfarmer

Re: CAT 535C Grapple Skidder
Good videos snowchaser! as to your low voltage problem it maybe like jensr said and you need a seperate regulator to run it or if the servo was already on its way out it will sometimes draw masses of current causing the same low voltage effect, id send that back to hitec and see what they say $120 hitec servo shouldnt go bad like that.
|
Re: CAT 535C Grapple Skidder
I believe I will send the servo back and see what they say.
I installed some "glass" finally, and updated a pic or two. http://i928.photobucket.com/albums/a...r/IMG_0024.jpg http://i928.photobucket.com/albums/a...r/IMG_0026.jpg http://i928.photobucket.com/albums/a...r/IMG_0027.jpg http://i928.photobucket.com/albums/a...r/IMG_0028.jpg Video: http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...CATSkidder.jpg Ben |
Re: CAT 535C Grapple Skidder
Looks just too awsome to get it dirty lol

Re: CAT 535C Grapple Skidder
Thanks. I've had some very frustrating moments with it, but I believe I have all the kinks ironed out now.

Re: CAT 535C Grapple Skidder
Do you guys find you enjoy building stuff then realize the fun is building and just assume sell what you've built?

Re: CAT 535C Grapple Skidder
Ben, if you ever get bored with that grapple, I know someone who will buy it right now!:D

Re: CAT 535C Grapple Skidder
Very tempting Rob.

Re: CAT 535C Grapple Skidder
The skidder has sold.
There is now a new creation about to hit the bench. Waa ha ha. Boy am I giddy!!! |

Re: Snochaser's Construction Co. Builds
I'm having fun with this if you can't tell..:D
It's a ScaleArt 963B. Here's some more progress..... http://i928.photobucket.com/albums/a...r/IMG_0705.jpg http://i928.photobucket.com/albums/a...r/IMG_0711.jpg http://i928.photobucket.com/albums/a...r/IMG_0714.jpg http://i928.photobucket.com/albums/a...r/IMG_0716.jpg http://i928.photobucket.com/albums/a...r/IMG_0718.jpg http://i928.photobucket.com/albums/a...r/IMG_0721.jpg http://i928.photobucket.com/albums/a...r/IMG_0723.jpg http://i928.photobucket.com/albums/a...r/IMG_0741.jpg Ben |
Re: Snochaser's Construction Co. Builds
I need a drool guard warning next time ya jerk!
I need a dovetail jig so I can make my own gorgeous boxes. The boxes themselves actually are quite reasonably priced from Scaleart! Shame about the shipping part. |
Re: Snochaser's Construction Co. Builds
WOW!!! that is looking great!! That is one cool looking loader!
|
Re: Snochaser's Construction Co. Builds
The loader is looking great Ben. Now we are going to need a mop and a bucket to follow Nate around with so nobody slips on the drool at Indy.:D

Re: Snochaser's Construction Co. Builds
That's a beauty Ben. Even the box is so cool:D
