Re: Logging & Construction Equipment

Thanks for all the comments and compliments everyone...Im pretty lucky that my wife puts up with that crap...the way she sees it if i didnt bring a little stuff in now and then i would be in the shop all day and she would only see me for dinner lol..

Jason ..I realy like what you did with your sons chevy. He must be pretty excited
I really like the detail in this truck ,lights and grill look awsome ...this one is the same colour as my 1 to 1 too...downside is there is quite a few body scratches and a windsheild has some pretty good ones as well ...I wonder if they could be buffed out...I have my eye on a set of tires and rims at RC4WD that are a bit more scale and think i may work on the box and add some tread plate and a tidy tank..

Thanks, I miss it and need to get back on it. Little league has sucked all my free time, but it is over soon. :D I will update my thread as soon as I make some headway.

Gee Lou, I replied to your thread so long ago, I'm totally amazed by everything that you've added and accomplished since then. I wish we had email notifications on the thread replies. I didn't realize you had so much up your sleeve! The AWD grader looks like a really great project. I really like that Deere juicer, as you call it. :D Not one of your projects is lacking in detail, functionality, and just pure scale looks. Unbelievable work. You've got a ton of talent, and all your models are top notch. After drooling over the last 6 pages of pictures, I feel like I should offically sell off all of my non scale trucking RC models and just go for the construction machines to match my interest in the rigs. :D This spectrum of the hobby is just so much more fasinating to me these days. I hope I can one day own a hydraulic anything piece of RC machinery!

Lou, that is some sweet looking plumbing you have done on the log loader! And those tires are awesome!!

Re: Logging & Construction Equipment

The lines on the boom look perfect Lou. If you filled those huge tires with bb's they would have some serious weight to them.

Nice looking brass work on the hyd lines too.

Nice work Lou, what size tubing did you use? Do the tires have a pretty thick side wall on them, where they can withstand some weight?

Joe they do have a very thick sidewall about a 1/2 inch thick..
The tubing im using is 1/8 od from K&S stock # 1145

Thanx everyone and rctech9 for all the great compliments and comments,,Im a pipefitter by trade and doing this small stuff can be very frustrating ...turning some of those small barb fittings was a chalenge and i wrecked about 5 trying

Re: Logging & Construction Equipment

1/2 " thick walls is just what I need . and an 1" smaller wouldn't hurt . you have the link for them .

Re: Logging & Construction Equipment

So you custom fabbed that brass tubing and holders, eh? Looks great!

Are you changing the tires on the adt for better looks or are the mammoth tires giving you trouble?

tracksntreadslou 12-04-2010 04:03 PM

Re: Logging & Construction Equipment

Thanks joe ..I found that making bushings drilled to the size of the tubing worked fairly well ..I had some 3mm threaded fittings so i tapped the the ends and soldered the bushings to the tubing ...I noticed that those european fellas building their vario machines are doing tubing as well...Did your machine come with that stuff or are you going to have to build that yourself.?
The mamoth tires are working great..Im thinking the other tires may add a bit more scale and a little more tracttion.

Lou I went in that web site and the only tire I could find was 120 mm tall I would like a set for my Komatsu wheel loader to get it taller so I can load my dump trailer and the 130 mm would help. Is there a part number for them? Ed

Hi Ed those tires are 125 mm..I hope i didnt misguide you...but they would look good on the kamatsu..not sure if the rims would be wide enough though ..anyway they are part # Artikel-Nr.: 5924

Re: Logging & Construction Equipment

Looks good Lou, I've not been around that configuration with the crowd cylinder on the bottom side like that, does it have as much power as the other way? Are you using the Jung pump on that rig?

Lil Giants 12-05-2010 03:50 PM

Re: Logging & Construction Equipment

The needed power on the crowd (or the stick, as I like to call it) for the log loader would be opposite to a digger, you're pushing the stick out with a heavy load on the arm, to load the trk/trl... would be my guess for the cyl being underneath.
