Re: 777 HAUL TRUCK (1/12 size)
KP, what planetary ratio and motor did you go with for the 777? I'm just curious what you think the truck will gross out at, weight-wise, and about how much power it would take to move the load. How many volts are you running the motor at?

Re: 777 HAUL TRUCK (1/12 size)
I just read through a couple pages of this build to get myself caught back up, and the truck looks amazing. You are a true craftsman.
As far as your question regarding the appearance of the walkway, I think it looks fantastic, but what may be throwing it off to you is the open spaces in the walking surface. In the pictures it looks like the walking surface is expanded metal or diamond plate where you have solid metal with slots. Those slots in scale look a little big, probably a couple scale inches wide. If you attached some scale expanded metal or diamond plate on top I bet the scale appearance would change. Again, I think it looks great and very scale, just trying to take a stab at what was bothering you when looking at it in person. |

Re: 777 HAUL TRUCK (1/12 size)
Cut some panels for the box ealier today....not sure if I want them (1/2") above the frame like in the pics or even with the top of the box frame....What do you guys think???
The holes in the panels will be plug welded and then sanded flat...to avoid seeing any welds....the box floor on this model is flat unlike the real deal...kinda wish I had made it more like the real deal...would look much better...the flat floor was the easy way out...LOL..:D;) |

( when it is finished I will get the actual weight...I'm only guessing on the weight being 85-90lbs...but my back tells me I'm close!!! :) ) The weight on the 1:1 777D is 142,573 lbs so if I did the math right the 1/12 model should be 82.5 lbs ??? So it may end up being a bit heavier than it should be in terms of scale....good thing this is a 1/12"ish" size and not 1/12 scale...LOL.... |
Re: 777 HAUL TRUCK (1/12 size)
This model is massiVEE. And awesome:D I like the 1/2 inch kept above the frame part on the dump box I think it looks better than if it were to be cut flush. How many shovel-fulls of dirt you reckon this thing willl haul when you get there?

Really excellent forming and fab methods - I have learned a good bit from your posts - thank you. The guard rail and ladder methods are the best!
Thanks for those links to Waterjet companies and the Plasma cutter info - hopefully someday I can afford a table myself. Once again - thanks for sharing your project - it's awesome! |

Re: 777 HAUL TRUCK (1/12 size)
Started playing around with the fuel tank.....actually this will have two fuel tanks....it should have one fuel tank and one hyd. tank but I'm going to make both sides the same....besides you can only see one side at a time and most people won't see the error so hey works for me.....Ok so I'm cutting corners, again!!;):D ( I just want to get this done...work out the details later..maybe;) )
The tank looks a bit too long....need to shorten it just a little....try and try again!!!!:o |
Re: 777 HAUL TRUCK (1/12 size)
Looks good to me. I think you need to air up those rear tires again! That foam you have in there is unhappy...

Have you talked to a tire store, about urethane fill for your truck tires?
Cheers, Neil. |
Re: 777 HAUL TRUCK (1/12 size)
I think he should put the tubes back in and run nitrogen... Don't want that tire pressure to change with all that heat build up while hauling!

http://blog.otrwheel.com/what-is-pol...-does-it-work/ Go talk to a tire dealer that handles forklift and industrial/construction tire's, and they can give you more detail's, I don't think you need more than an "8" on the durometer scale, but inflate your tire's to the desired pressure, and tell the dealer to match it with the fill. Spray foam at home depot is NOT the same stuff. Hope this help's :eek::eek: cheer's, Neil. |
Re: 777 HAUL TRUCK (1/12 size)
We have an old lawn mower that we use for towing trailers around the property. We had a tire shop fill the tires with foam. We still haven't had any problems with the tires even with the chains and a load on. So i'm sure whatever they used will work for you!

Re: 777 HAUL TRUCK (1/12 size)
Thanks guys for the tire fill info......that would be a good solution......the only draw back might be the added weight, not like this thing is a feather weight now...lol....

Re: 777 HAUL TRUCK (1/12 size)
This truck is turning out to be much heavier than I thought....yikes...cutting it from solid material is a big reason for the added weight, at least something might be close to scale.....lol

Re: 777 HAUL TRUCK (1/12 size)
From my experience with racing go karts where the tires have to reach an optimum operating tempature of 165* F, when I ran tires with air or nitrogen they both reacted the same as far as how much air pressure was increased and it also took the same amount of laps to build the same heat and air pressure!!! With all that being said, I would look into foam filling the tires to achieve what you want!!! Also my wife's new nissan cube dropped air pressure from the recommended pressure of 44 psi to an average of 20 psi when the cold weather set in, and they are nitrogen filled also!!! Hope this helps!!!

Re: 777 HAUL TRUCK (1/12 size)
Made a new cab today (cut from 14ga)....needed to make some changes...so I added holes to attach the windows and the grab bar at the same time. Decided to use fasteners to attach the windows....the upper portion of the cab will be painted black so the fasteners shouldn't stick out to bad....;)
