I may qualify, think I can get to one more at end of year!!!! So I don't have to talk to neighbors anymore!!!! :).

Re: RCP Compound
Well I traded in my hermit status this last week. I had few separate out of town friends end up at our place over the last week so there was a lot of socializing and hanging out going on. Yesterday things went quiet around here again so after some work related stuff I played a little with the big toys...

Re: RCP Compound
I haven't spent much time working on the compound over the last week but I have spent a few minutes here and there running my Dozer conversion. The more I run it the more I enjoy it! I'm actually really impressed with it considering it is a light little machine.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bt39RDadXgw https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oxHTinEmeV0 I originally controlled the blade tip using the electronics from a 360 degree servo but I couldn't get it to stop creeping forward all the time. I received a package from Hobby King last week containing some of their cheap esc's so I swapped out the servo guts for one of them and now it works perfect. It's nice to be able to angle the cutting edge where you want it as well as tilt the balde. I am not very good at running it yet but it's fun to try! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wDn2hOg6FUU |
Re: RCP Compound
Looks like it pushes good for a lite-weight dozer. Your drive motors seem to be a good match for the size and weight of the model. Nice play area-with a lot of dirt to move. Looks like fun.
|
Re: RCP Compound
Nice videos of the Hayse and the Bruder. Do you plan on making a steel version of the dozer?

Re: RCP Compound
Again reg, awesome pics!! Just something about the Pacific Northwest forest that I love!! When , if ever, the mean lady at the lottery counter quits selling me bad tickets I'll be moving to Seattle or Vancouver.!!! Yeah, you might need to check in with financial at the RCP offices, I think you need another bigger machine like a d9-d10 to fit in with the Hayes. Make some logging roads quick!! That would be cool in 1:10 scale.
|
Re: RCP Compound
That woman is selling you tickets too? I thought she saved those losers for us. Friends of ours just one the set for life lottery. They chose the $675K payout instead of 1K per week for 25 years. I feel good for them as they have their first child on the way but the kicker is he's a doctor and his parents are millionaires!:eek: I guess that's the way it goes. The rich get richer!lol
Anyway, I may not have any money but I do have this and I feel very fortunate:cool:. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GVam-art_WI Reg |
Re: RCP Compound
Roger on the 1:10 scale. Th at seems like a good middle ground. Looks like they are big enough to work, and still small enough to haul places.
|
Re: RCP Compound
1/10 scale is really nice as far as power and weight is concerned but it requires so much more space. My Kenworth is twice as wide as a King Hauler and nearly twice as long. The extra size and weight does add realism though that's for sure. I figure a D8K in 1/10 scale will be similar in size and weight to RW's D11 though so it won't be super huge... just huge:D.
Here's a few pictures I took of the compound from the shop roof today. Looks pretty quiet out on the roads at the moment!lol http://i1293.photobucket.com/albums/...psv3dvyihc.jpg http://i1293.photobucket.com/albums/...psf3xvskss.jpg http://i1293.photobucket.com/albums/...psprnum6hi.jpg http://i1293.photobucket.com/albums/...psdifk4mlj.jpg http://i1293.photobucket.com/albums/...psflpv0z06.jpg |
Re: RCP Compound
I know the weather can be an issue with your outside compound, but the room for expansion and imagination for the extra space has got to be keeping you awake!
I am watching and learning, and I plan on building in 1:10 scale. Some models I'm considering are the HET, Payhauler 350, and a D11T. |
Re: RCP Compound

Building in a larger scale is good and bad. Personally I like the bigger equipment but it isn't very common and that forces you to make nearly everything from scratch. It also makes things more difficult if you get together at a show where everyone else is running 1/14 and all of the display is setup for that. Building in 1/14 can be like cheating. You can buy almost anything imaginable and just bolt it together if you want to go that route. I do think that scratch building in 1/14 is more difficult than in 1/10 though. Given that I make all of my parts out of aluminum it is much harder to keep details when the pieces are so much smaller. If you choose to build a D11 in 1/10 that will be huge but the added size will probably make it easier to build. Just make sure you build some loading ramps along with it! |
Re: RCP Compound
The d11 in 1/10 scale would be 3-1/2' long from blade to ripper!! Whatever it was made out of , steel or alum, it would still be too heavy for easy pick up and transport!!! Although, I would really appreciate the internal area, might actually be able to get my fingers in there!! I really wanted to build in 1:10 or 1:12 scale but the tamiya stuff is 1:14 so I went that way. And like you said reg, unless you can make everything, anything other than 1:14 is tough getting parts.
|
Re: RCP Compound
Yeah that would be a bit large for me. If I was going to build something that large then I would step it up to 1/4-1/5 scale so that I could sit on it!:D:D:D

Re: RCP Compound
I thought about putting rc controls on my ditch witch and making it into a steep hill flail mower for pasture fields

I know it has its issues when it comes to shows and when your friends bring their 1:14 stuff over, but we don't have a big rc construction crowd here local. |

I had the "boss" out driving in the compound yesterday. She is a bit hard on the equipment and likes to see where the Mack will go before it gets stuck:rolleyes: but that's OK. I just get to push it out using the dozer.lol It was a lot more fun to have my wife out there with me having some laughs and adding to the road.:D https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LApmlxrS8lY https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wLYT1mGdv5c https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vxroPSMTmVg http://i1293.photobucket.com/albums/...pskokzfble.jpg http://i1293.photobucket.com/albums/...psiu3ykj91.jpg |
Re: RCP Compound
I just watched those videos last night. I've spent the last two days from daylight to dark running the 1:1 scale 215 cat excavator and a couple tandem axle ford dump trucks, moved about 900 cubic yards of dirt from the side of my pond. I'm building a stone wall on the edge and then my new house.
On the Bruder tracks: what's causing the bind, or is it just a matter of overcoming the dirt with more HP? |
Re: RCP Compound
Sounds like you have your hands full but also space for a big park of your own down the road. The tracks hang up for a number of reasons. Sometimes a large rock(large match head size:rolleyes:) gets stuck between the pads. This causes a hump in the chain and the grouser hits the body. Other times it is the same size rock jammed in the chain. The tracks don't have tensioners so occasionally they get too tight because of this or just a lot of wet sand packed in the rollers. It's a bit of a pain sometimes but it's a tiny little toy and I forgive it:rolleyes:.
|
Re: RCP Compound
Yup, at first run I loaded the tracks up with dirt and was thinking oh great all this time building and first turn it clogged up!! Just like the 1:1 machines, try to avoid sharp turns that will have dirt flow over chain of the track. On 1:1 machines dirt isn't usually a problem but whoever is the owner of the equipment will let you know if you keep using the track and sprocket as a rock crusher!! Once I "learned" the limitations of my 1:14 dozer , I haven't had many problems. Only time I clogg up the tracks is when driving over a pile of loose material and turning or being on a slope and it slides allowing material to get packed into track chain.
|
Re: RCP Compound
I enjoy you videos, I will need to get some controls added to some of my grandsons toys for a start up. I'm sure that would be faster than scratch building and get me familiar with the electronics. I'll look for your Mack thread and see how to tackle that.
|
Re: RCP Compound
RCP-after looking at the picture you posted on mikems page, I think it would be nice for you to do a video using the lake with your construction equipment. Maybe a video loading a barge with the excavator or front loader. I like anything on the water.

Re: RCP Compound
I had some company today in the form of chaseracer! We had a good BS and moved a bit of dirt in the process using as much equipment as we could. It was a great day for sure! Thanks for coming out for the afternoon Jason. Too bad Lou didn't make it down...(dig, dig:p).
Here are the pictures I took and there are a bunch of videos uploading. More interesting to watch when more than one thing is happening at a time. We need more operators and equipment at this site! http://i1293.photobucket.com/albums/...psrghfdisd.jpg http://i1293.photobucket.com/albums/...pspyajec5x.jpg http://i1293.photobucket.com/albums/...pstw4tjuvi.jpg http://i1293.photobucket.com/albums/...psxhsbywdy.jpg http://i1293.photobucket.com/albums/...psv69rgdn5.jpg http://i1293.photobucket.com/albums/...psp8xraify.jpg http://i1293.photobucket.com/albums/...ps4xtkpfga.jpg http://i1293.photobucket.com/albums/...pst2q4f3ei.jpg http://i1293.photobucket.com/albums/...pso6nc5nao.jpg http://i1293.photobucket.com/albums/...psbofc1mj8.jpg |

Re: RCP Compound
My wife decided to come and haul some dirt this evening while I was hauling logs. I quickly traded in my 1/10 scale logging truck for my King and excavator so that I could join her. We almost have this section of road completed. Joe, you will be happy to know that all but the chunk of wood and a couple of big rocks for support have been hauled into the ravine using RC only.

Re: RCP Compound
Good work buddy, great to hear.
|
Re: RCP Compound
Thanks Joe! This area has been easy to use just the RC's on. The only drawback is that the sifted material won't pack when dry. I need a layer of something else to put on there because the material is at least 6" deep in spots. Either that or a sprinkler system to keep it wet.
|
Re: RCP Compound
Cool vids, the logging truck sure is sounding good too.

Re: RCP Compound
Sounds like a water tank trailer on the back of that Old Kenworth your building Reg

Re: RCP Compound
