Re: Great Dane excavating co.
Those forks look familiar, I found a set on a job . With a 5th wheel plate, frame steel, a torch and welder, they now are in my attachment fleet for my 247B cat . And they're adjustable via 5th wheel slide/lock rail:D
|
Re: Great Dane excavating co.
That's where my old set got to!!! Lol!!! Always creative, sure makes work easier when ya got the imagination and tools to make stuff work!! Steve we are gonna have to get together sometime, possibly yet this year if I get some more free time :).
Hey reg, that mud and sand stuff, blaaa!!,, got final coat of mud on walls today and have about 15 min yet of sponging. Then a 5min sand down, no dust so far :). Might not even have to sand at all. Normally I would have taken the but joints out another 5-6" on both sides to blend better but for the shop,,, I just want it done!! Have some work tomorrow but might get paint on!! http://i1357.photobucket.com/albums/...psewnuwnbk.jpg Then I can possibly get back to the hydraulics on the haul truck!! |
Re: Great Dane excavating co.
Cooper-your shop is looking great!! You must be working like a mad man. I can remember doing that but it has been many many years ago. :D Should be a really nice set up when finished. Will you have A C ? Here in Al. the 90+° days are too hot for shop work- for me anyway.

Re: Great Dane excavating co.
Not yet but i did run extra wire for a central air unit. The furnace I have is ac ready, it accepts a split system. And I happen to sell them :). But even my cost is making me wait till better days. Maybe by next summer I can stuff one in here!! This summer has been a normal bill paying work summer but the moving from one house, remodeling old house, auction, cleaning out the barn from 20 years, prepping property for a family wedding, remodeling garage, helping my sister move/ fix up her home we for sale and life has been keeping me busy for sure:). But soon my normal slogan of " why do today what you can put off till tomorrow" will be back! Lol!!

http://i1357.photobucket.com/albums/...psixef9arj.jpg Well done with paint!! All I have to do is ceiling trim, vinyl base trim, and door/window. And every time I come in here this stares at me!!! http://i1357.photobucket.com/albums/...ps8klilepr.jpg She is begging to be completed!!! Soon !! |

Ugg it's like a sauna in here again for the evening!!! Not like marios 6 person sauna!!! Lol!!! |
Re: Great Dane excavating co.
I think next time I mention the sauna I will refer to square footage rather than human capacity from now on .
|
Re: Great Dane excavating co.
Like they said before Mario, at least you didn't say 6 man sauna!! I probably would have, but the correct reference for that capacity is one man and five woman sauna;). I do have a whirlpool , even has its own bubbler!!! Lol!!! ( pull the tub drain and eat beans 1 hour before entering). That's only a one man whirlpool, no others ever want to enjoy?!?!
Ok back to work , even latex paint fumes are getting to me out here :) |
Re: Great Dane excavating co.
Looks great I wish I had time to have painted my shop when I built it , but can't see the walls for all the shelving in front of them . Like the Colors too
|
Re: Great Dane excavating co.
Like the paint, but it reminds me of where I work, Only thing missing is a red stripe splitting the white and grey. its going to make a great looking shop.
|
Re: Great Dane excavating co.
O to be young and ambitious again and do things like that. Ed
|
Re: Great Dane excavating co.
3" wide red stripe will be added after the
The paint cures. Then it will look like the inside Of the loCal chevy dealership |
Re: Great Dane excavating co.
Must be a popular color scheme for a shop, That's what Bosch uses in their shops.

here ya go Coop . I've lifted a ton on them which is max for the machine . |
Re: Great Dane excavating co.
Thanks ed, only reason I'm doing all this is I've learned the older I get the less I want to do :). And I'm pretty sure I'm staying here for a good while!!
Well I'm about 99.9% done, one piece of drywall above garage door(one sheet shy) Paint that and trim. Got base and cove moldings done!! Now I'm trying to figure where to best plant the machines. Definitely don't want to move them again!!! We use to call this the boat garage, had a small ski boat and stored it here, now ?? The wife wants to call it the dog house, me the cat house ( as in caterpillar) lol!!!! But when mark an I went to the last show I got a sign that said "welcome to the nut house" with a bushy tree rat on it. |
Re: Great Dane excavating co.
|
Re: Great Dane excavating co.

Re: Great Dane excavating co.
Perfect sign cooper , I have a few spare sheets of drywall here if you want one .

Re: Great Dane excavating co.
Nice, I'm envious of the shop!
How bout a bit of info on the DRO you have on the lathe? How many axis is it, what brand? Where/how did you install the scales? I sure would like a DRO on mine. Jim |
Re: Great Dane excavating co.
Jim, I got both dro's for mill and lathe from eBay, I'll have to root around for paperwork. They were the less expensive ones out there. But have been flawless. One of the scales for mill wasn't working properly at first. Simple fix, it was just dirty. Have to make your own mounts. But that is pretty simple. I only have two scales on lathe. I am looking to put a cheep slide scale on tail stock. I'll try and find some more info for ya.
http://i1357.photobucket.com/albums/...psno0dupl9.jpg Back of the bed scale http://i1357.photobucket.com/albums/...psrtma0r9l.jpg And slide scale, http://i1357.photobucket.com/albums/...ps3t6q6dhx.jpg And finally getting back to the haul truck. A while back I got this rock crawler motor/esc. I'm thinking it will be better with the sensored motor for easier start up and low speed. Yeah it's already geared with a3:1 diff, a 4:1, 4:1, 3:1 tranny but the big motor I had in it would just spinn up too fast and was slapping all those gears pretty hard. Just a matter of time before some broke. Like the driveshaft first!! http://i1357.photobucket.com/albums/...pstfrus16r.jpg |
Re: Great Dane excavating co.
http://i1357.photobucket.com/albums/...ps68io1njs.jpg
With swapping motors I need to make a new motor mount. But the bulkhead is fitted into the frame. I'm going to make a bell for the motor to fit into. This will allow me to get motor closer to universals and a direct fit to the universal. Before I had an adapter from the 8mm motor shaft to the driveshaft. Just some pieces of stock to make part out of in the background. http://i1357.photobucket.com/albums/...psowyhtwl2.jpg And also got new pieces of acrylic/plexi? Also with the proper adhesive. Reason for remaking tank is it has a leak in it and the fitting side will be a little thicker. |
Re: Great Dane excavating co.
Copper. Good to see you took a picture of your wife running equipment. My wife picked up one of my TX this summer when I was out in the dirt pile. I was so chocked I never thought of taking a photo for proof. As I am sure it will never happen again. I now only have a vivid memory of how it went. The hoe was in attitudes it had never experienced before. I mean the John Deere 350 excavator.

Yes, because if she does I'll surely be sent to the nut house/dog house/cat house--- otherwise know as the garage!!!

Re: Great Dane excavating co.
Use a digital caliper on the tail stock , had one on the quill , on my mill when I bought it.
Cheers! |
