Re: Capo 1:8 Jeep CD15823
Painted the covers I made. Im attaching the drive shaft tunnel with scale hardware and the transfer case cover is glued to the transmission tunnel.
http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...0c4c3d39f4.jpg Then tackled some wiring. This is going to be the hardest part of this build, especially when I get to the engine bay. Using boxed styrene as wire chases, and two sided tape to attach to the inner quarters. http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...8289cdb58e.jpg http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...d92bdf3cc1.jpg I found some boxed styrene that fits inside the rockers as well. These have to carry the 6 led wires as well as one of the battery wires. It was a tight squeeze getting the wires fed through. http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...36c7ab1ae4.jpg http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...34d11eebce.jpg http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...419745bd2e.jpg http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...5700728305.jpg A look at the painted fender flares. http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...7572bf83e4.jpg And the mess that is my work bench..... http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...d607c1478c.jpg |
Re: Capo 1:8 Jeep CD15823
I think I will send you my MAN so you can do the wiring for me :)

Re: Capo 1:8 Jeep CD15823
I wasn't able to accomplish much today. But got a little bit done. Fixed something that was bugging me. Since I had the body tore down for wiring, I sprayed the front door pillars in body color. They were still in their black anodized glory, and I really felt it threw off the look whenever the doors are off or open.
http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...bb11e967c5.jpg I also wasn't happy with how the b-pillars looked from the inside. Too hollow. http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...b2247177b5.jpg So again I went to the boxed styrene to give the pillars some much needed "mass". They look somewhat structural now. Plus they serve as nice wire chases for the dome light. http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...968a608c0e.jpg Painted them body color. I have then glued in with some e6000. Keeping them clamped till the glue sets up good.http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...4ede424a5d.jpg Got the other rear lights all ready to go as well. http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...6733d1d8f8.jpg |
Re: Capo 1:8 Jeep CD15823
Small update. Spent a few hrs tonight working on the dome light. Made a lens from some clear styrene.
http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...1a582c4b20.jpg Then I used more boxed styrene that fit snug into the top of the roll bar for a place to mount a switch and an led, as well as a wire chase. http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...2fa092ed73.jpg http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...14f071e41b.jpg I slid various sizes of styrene strip into the boxed tube and glued them in to lock everything in place.http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...0473f0d5be.jpghttp://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...914c026acb.jpg Masked off where the lens will be. http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...a9488d1316.jpg Painted and glued on the lens. http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...9a960eb787.jpg Mounted into the roll bar. http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...dedf744f56.jpg Now I'm just left with a mountain of wiring.... The plan is to conceal as much as I can between the dash and firewall. http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...ea50fa687a.jpg http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...1654080d44.jpg |
Re: Capo 1:8 Jeep CD15823
Some nice detail work on the dome light! ... And a cable salad that gives me an anxiety attack just looking at it :)
Once you finalise this build and take a picture of the jeep in a suitable setting it will be hard to see it is a 1:10 model! |

If I take a photo of this thing finished in a good setting would it look like a 1:8 model I wonder?...:cop: |
Re: Capo 1:8 Jeep CD15823
Oops ... a slip of the keyboard there ...
With you on the cable mess in the engine bay. Will be interesting to see your solution there! One advantage of te 1:8 scale is that the receiver and ESC don't look too much out of proportion. What ESC are you using? Was thinking that one from Servonaut might be flat/small enough to disappear in the engine bay. |
Re: Capo 1:8 Jeep CD15823
Ive got a Novak Eiger that Ive had laying around unused for a few years now. Its pretty small and can handle the recommended 3s lipo with an external bec. More importantly it has zero reverse delay. No need for drag brakes. You can see it in the last pic posted.

Re: Capo 1:8 Jeep CD15823
That Novak indeed looks small in an 1:8 scale model. Had missed it the first time I looked at the photos. As said before, will be interesting to see your solution. There is a lot going on in that motor compartment.

Re: Capo 1:8 Jeep CD15823
Ive got it figured out in my head what I want to do. Just alot to do to make it happen now.

Re: Capo 1:8 Jeep CD15823
Put some more time in on this. More wiring... Ugh.... Racked my brain a bit to figure out how to mount the Heyok light controller. Great controllers, but a bit hard to mount in this type of build. Heres my attempt. Started with some styrene.
http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...8b79f47716.jpg http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...d9e22a9b6a.jpg http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...9864cc1b57.jpg http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...3aaf2d42dc.jpg http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...f07650254e.jpg Then I made some more wire chases to feed the lighting wires up behind the dash. http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...64ce17f177.jpg Had to cut a notch out of the bottom of the dash to receive the wire chases. http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...ddac341733.jpg http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...6d0dcba1f7.jpg While I was at it, I decided to change up how the dash mounts. Originally mounted with 2- m3 screws, but these are pretty much inaccessible after all the electronics are in. Seeing how the dash will need to come out in order to remove the body, due to some electronics being concealed there, and some plugs that will need to be disconnected, I swapped in some Tamiya body mounts instead. The pins can be pulled from underneath. http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...17d70417dc.jpg http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...ba44fd88e4.jpg It mounts up perfect, nice and tight. http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...b46a976abf.jpg Can see the wire chases up into the dash. http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...b23c9f951d.jpg Started to wire up the front lights. http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...c0dde583fd.jpg And out of time for tonight. http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...08e5789332.jpg |

Re: Capo 1:8 Jeep CD15823
Hi Prop Shaft, after seeing the new RC4WD automatic transmission in another thread on here and reading the trans can become hot during use, I was wondering if you have had a chance to give your enclosed motor and trans a good run yet and does it get hot like the RC4wd one ?
Also have you got a vidoe of it in action ? Cheers Tracy |

Re: Capo 1:8 Jeep CD15823
Hands down, best build up I've seen. Nice it is a sizable kit to pack in what your up to. But one heck of a build up. Nice work.

Re: Capo 1:8 Jeep CD15823
Found some time to work on the wiring a bit.
Finished up the front lights. Hi/Lo beams, parking lights, and turn signals. The turn signal lights will only function as hazard lights as im not really that fond of turn signals tied to the steering. http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...4be448c78f.jpg If anyone is wondering this is the light controller I'm using from Al. (Heyok) http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...9944a643c5.jpg Finished up the wiring behind the dash. I hid what I could here. The only components left to hide are the rx and esc. And I have some plans to hide them in the engine bay. http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...ffe78636e4.jpg I also saw it fit to cover the back side of the dash panel with some electrical tape. The light from the led's in the dash was bleeding into the engine bay and through the vents in the cowl. http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...ac5a1d17e3.jpg |
