Re: my first semi build (dump)

thanks Rob, I did try it off the trans and it did work but this is a new setup and I will be sticking with it, I am droping the 3 speed out and using a different sinigle speed tranny to save room and a channel on my radio for a couple other goodies I have planned. I not sure about hauling gravel yet but I am in the mood to build again so at least I am working on it

then it was on to the rad grill peice I wasnt happy with the first on I built wrong shape needed to much work to make right ( old rad grill on pic above) so I decided to make a whole new one I cut and glued many layers of styrene together to form a block I could dremel and sand to the shape I wanted well as close as I can get with my limited skills. this is what I have so far

Rock guard turned out great. That should keep the dints off the roof. From what I remember the rad turned out great too. Once you fill it in with black paint that will give it the look.

Re: my first semi build (dump)

well I added some paint to make it look like this was moving along lol

cab is just primer.. I have more sanding and stuff to do . but I am really liking the primer look on this looks like a sun faded original paint from the 70's lol so I may keep this color after more sanding and few more coats . all opinions welcome. and yeah I know bad body work. just had no luck with filler on this one .

Your getting closer and it's starting to look like a real truck. Nothing wrong with the body work, she's looking more Autocar all the time.

I am digging the way it looks and there is now law that says all of the trucks here have to be show queens. Do a little weathering to the rims, add some half worn out mud flaps and some fuzzy dice in the front window and your ready to haul some loads.

Jason, the A Car is looking real good. Once you get the bling on her, she'll be too nice to put in a pit. Lou, Greg and I were moving dirt on Tues. afternoon and we were wondering what all you south island guys were up to. Looking forward to getting back at it myself, as it's that time of the year again!!!

Wow! The bed raise is one of the smoother and quieter units I've seen. Great job.

That really looks good, well done Jason!

That screw is really smooth from the start! What thread did you use?

Those wheels you have, they not come with center caps?

Have you fashioned up any kind of tail gate lock, that's a must! ;)

Re: my first semi build (dump)

I think there's a lot of very fine, detailed models of trucks around , like this one. The proud builder (should be) go around shows driving their trucks (and this is seen all over world on shows) running at speed and changes of directions not prototypical at all.
I've not been into buildning trucks (1:14) and don´t know if it´s the speed controllers that are that bad? Any idea from you guys working with those?
I know from my time modeling trains and when DCC (computer controls) decoders was introduced that they could be programmed to not make "jump starts" possible. You could programe the effect of mass into acceleration and braking (this was funny when engineer was not use to it). Some of my friends had problems with that but it was a much more prototypical way of running trains.
From videos it seems like the soundcontrols are good, the sound replicates to orgin, if it´s like trains, I don´t know. Is Cummins, Detroit, Caterpillar, Scania, Volvo ........ sound available?
On trains you can have a Farbank Morse, GE, EMD even read that 3 engine gensets was available now.
