Re: 4 Hour Bruder Dozer
that there looks kinda like a grader blade... Now that I see your fingers for size comparison, maybe you're going for the old school D8 straight blade look. |
Re: 4 Hour Bruder Dozer
Not to worry. the blades aren't finished yet! They will not be a carry blade like on my dozer but they won't be a straight blade either.
Kinda like this. http://www.google.ca/url?sa=i&rct=j&...16951949301575 |
Re: 4 Hour Bruder Dozer
A little more progress on the blades today. I'm aiming for the look of a D6 with these so no more carry blades. This style will cut a lot better too with such a light machine.

Unbelievable skills! Would love to have the talent you do

Re: 4 Hour Bruder Dozer
Thanks a lot Barker. All I can say is practice, practice, practice! That's what I do but nothing ever turns out perfect.
I made up these little motor mounts this morning. http://i1293.photobucket.com/albums/...psc15fe50a.jpg http://i1293.photobucket.com/albums/...ps3053cd13.jpg http://i1293.photobucket.com/albums/...pse06cfd5a.jpg |
Re: 4 Hour Bruder Dozer
I finally finished up the sprockets for dozer #2 today! They took a long time to make but I think they turned out pretty well.

Killer :D
I'm always amazed to watch your builds, umm ehh...Craftsmanship !! John |
Re: 4 Hour Bruder Dozer
Those turned out great! Your really going all out on this one Reg and the results are awesome. These dozers are gonna kick a**.

Re: 4 Hour Bruder Dozer
Thanks guys. I think they are a little too time consuming for "mass production" but I guess it all depends on what someone wants. I like them a lot and wish they were on my dozer! I got a good start on all the other idlers yesterday so hopefully this one is rolling in the very near future. It will be interesting to see how it works with gear motors vs servos. Hopefully it is more durable!

Re: 4 Hour Bruder Dozer
RCP57-please understand, I am not criticizing your work. You are doing outstanding work on these plastic models but I noticed on your 1st. dozer the sprocket looked a little small for a scale-appearing look. This last one you made looks larger and more detailed and probably fits the scale better (just my opinion). However, I realize that you are trying to build something affordable for these tighter budgets and saving labor is crucial. Maybe you should offer-2- models. A bare bones cheaper machine and an optional model with all the good parts. Just a suggestion but you probably know what you want out of this. I know from my tries that machining detailed parts takes a lot of time and that is money. I am not a big fan of plastic models but I will be keeping up with this!! Very interesting thread.

Re: 4 Hour Bruder Dozer
Hey Reg, set the sprockets up on a rotary table, make a plunge cut with a hollow end mill, the nub left can be the faux bolt. see link, http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...JL._SX342_.jpg Then index to the next bolt position, new plunge cut with depth stop. Clean the rest up on the lathe later. Hope this makes sense?

Re: 4 Hour Bruder Dozer
That's a good idea Neil.
A short video of Dozer number two on the move for the first time. I still have much to do! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z4tq...tJ-DusnO8Onw7A |
Re: 4 Hour Bruder Dozer
Don't know if it helps but all I did on my d11 drive sprockets was drilled the holes and pressed the bolts in. Had to use tweezers to hold the bolts vertical then just pressed them in. Or uhh maybe Santa has room on that list for a printer? Lol. It looks really good, the movement looks strong and fluid. Great job!!

Re: 4 Hour Bruder Dozer
That's what I did on my KW build as well. Interference fit is way better than threading all those tiny holes when the bolts are just for show! On the dozer I just drilled all the holes to the right size and glued in left over pieces of filler rod. Once the glue dried I used my 6" disc sander to make them all the same length. Cheaper than using bolts and it looks nearly as good I think.
Hmmm, my list for Santa already has something really expensive on it so I think I will just try to save up for the printer.... I do want one though... |
Re: 4 Hour Bruder Dozer
Anybody looked at the Dremel printer at Home Depot yet?
Cheers, Neil. |
Re: 4 Hour Bruder Dozer
I have been working on these steady lately trying to finish them up. Dozer #1 finally got a paint job and nearly all the track and blade parts are finished for Dozers 2 and 3.

It is spring loaded to allow some give while tilting the blade. The result is some pretty serious articulation without binding. http://i1293.photobucket.com/albums/...ps22262c36.jpg http://i1293.photobucket.com/albums/...ps5710ea2e.jpg http://i1293.photobucket.com/albums/...ps2d1b5a7a.jpg 1 and 2 sitting side by side. I found some paint that matches pretty well. http://i1293.photobucket.com/albums/...psea35f6da.jpg http://i1293.photobucket.com/albums/...pscfe67757.jpg http://i1293.photobucket.com/albums/...psf1226425.jpg |
