What a difference! I think you nailed it with the new drawing.
Version 1.2 is going to look perfect!
So what happens with the body you made so far? Why not continue the build, learn about anymore hiccups in the process and then when your ready, build the new version?

Looks alot better. Something still looks off with the rib down the hood. Maybe it needs to taper back to nothing at the back end over a longer distance.

Tracks, thats a great resource, never knew about the Vector Drawings. Thanks for the help. Ill look more into those. The support material on the doors? i used Afinia ABS and it is more brittle which makes it much easier to remove..sorta snaps aparts without alot of stress on the part. That and a paint scraper.

Mario, thank you. The first body was a great prototype and helped quite a bit to work out some issues i wasnt sure about.

Pugs, I know..and im not scaling every detail, wanted to sorta make it" my own" design. Kinda like If i were to design a real Kenworth..what do i want in the design..Like the split window, the sloped roof on a w900, when i think that only comes on the 900L...Some aspects of my design are less true to prototypical units than others and i found that what the design looks like on the screen and what actually prints are two different things. Ex, the grill on the screen looks taller than it is wide, but in reality the actual print is more square...so knowing that i want to get the "general shape" more correct, which i feel alot more confident after reading all the great support from you guys, and after printing this next one ill prob make more changes based on what i like or dont. Its a process i guess. But thanks for the suggestions, i appreciate your help.

I'm in awe.

I've been looking at the hobby style 3d printers for a while, like the Makerbot ones. Wish i had some spare cash! Its one thing to spend $1k or more on a 1/14 truck over several months, but stumping up all that cash at once makes my wallet wince!

By the way Jason, instead of taking a photo of the screen and getting the resulting moire from the pixels, do a screen capture with ALT-PrintScreen. That will capture the active window to the clipboard. Then paste into paint or something.

Thanks guys for the comments and support. And Kingbob, lol, great tip! Was obviously unaware of that, I'll give it a try. I made a few adjustments again so ill show the latest design. And btw I spent some time researching printers and you get what you pay for. Look at the Afinia.. It's a pleasure to use. The only printer that creates its own support which is really important.

I also began printing version 1.2 with the fenders and grill. Will post some pics ASAP.

Thanks man, Got the grill, fenders and hood printed. I strategically cut and placed cab parts on the work table to give the printer a good workout. Should be 13 hrs to print that load which will be the whole cab minus the doors and windshield ( black parts from first cab). Ill post up the results for this weeks attempt. Already shaved about 1/3 the time to print from the first try. Also using less dense fill as it was overkill and a waste of material.

Truly awesome. I was thinking of building an M1070 next, but the amount of scratch building i'd have to do was putting me off. Maybe i should invest in one of these, make life easier for myself.

The Afinia is also sold as the "UP Plus" 3d printer, about $1700 locally. Still not exactly cheap, but could be a candidate for this years tax return :D

It looks great. When you thinned out the parts, how much thinner are they? I did a track link a while back and posted on my track parts thread, I had a good bit of clean up to uncover the detail but seems like it worked out well, how much extra time did it take you to clean everything up so far? I think it's great to have all this technology at our finger tips as long as the power doesn't go off. Keep up the good work. Colin

Clean up as in remove the support material from the printed part? Takes me a few minutes per piece roughly. I have made some track parts too and that did take some time to clean up because the bottom side had more details where the support was. Try printing your parts on their side. Sometimes it means less support.

Heres something to keep this thread alive..A mock up pic to get an idea of where Ver 1.2 is going. Havent had alot of time recently for much progress. Still have alot of body work to do but getting there slowly. Working on body mount options next and going to design a speaker box to sit in the bottom of the cab. Also need to relocate the front axle to center in the fenders. Thx for looking.
