Re: Classy Shak
Hi All, Well I got my spiked lug nuts from Steve the other day and got them all polished up and installed. I have to say they look EXACTLY like what I wanted.
Thanks again Steve for making these happen. http://i587.photobucket.com/albums/s...20Shak/500.jpg http://i587.photobucket.com/albums/s...20Shak/498.jpg http://i587.photobucket.com/albums/s...20Shak/502.jpg http://i587.photobucket.com/albums/s...20Shak/503.jpg Here is a link to a video on how I polished these. I simply put a 2mm screw in my drill press, then screwed on a lug nut using the slowest speed. Then I got a cotton buffing pad for my Dremel, and used some green Jewelers Rouge. |
Re: Classy Shak
Those look AMAZING! That just makes the wheels pop - very nice.
|
Re: Classy Shak
Those are cool:eek:Mike..........Steve did a great job.
I wish you had the time to just work on this truck and nothing else. I'm ready to see this thing done. It's going to be an epic build:eek: |

Re: Classy Shak
Hey Gents
I actually did some work on the Shak today... I figured out a way to run the fifth wheel lock and have all the linkage under the deck plate. I made a sort of bell crank. Now I will be able to have the servo in the sleeper and no linkage seen. I also built a functional release handle just like the real ones, so I will be able to unlock it either way. I do have one question though, I'm sure Paul, Nate, or any number of you can answer this for me. Is there a way to limit the travel of a servo or will it do it automatically. The reason I ask is cause the throw on the lock is only about 1/2" and if it goes to far past the limit either way it could move part of the linkage for the lock and make it so it won't work right. Anyway here are some pictures. http://i587.photobucket.com/albums/s...20Shak/505.jpg http://i587.photobucket.com/albums/s...20Shak/504.jpg The under side. I have made this by pinching the bottom part of the bell crank between two nuts because I have to have a way to remove the fifth wheel through the deck plate. This is the part that could turn if the servo moves to far. http://i587.photobucket.com/albums/s...20Shak/506.jpg http://i587.photobucket.com/albums/s...20Shak/507.jpg Here is the release handle. http://i587.photobucket.com/albums/s...20Shak/508.jpg http://i587.photobucket.com/albums/s...20Shak/509.jpg http://i587.photobucket.com/albums/s...20Shak/510.jpg http://i587.photobucket.com/albums/s...20Shak/511.jpg http://i587.photobucket.com/albums/s...20Shak/512.jpg Now all I need is some ball joints and I got it made.. Does anyone know where to get some 2mm and 3mm all thread rods? |
Re: Classy Shak
Hey Mike, good to see some more progress on the "Shack". As to answer a couple of your questions, the servo can be limited on throw by where you set your endpoints on the radio. The shorter arm on the servo too will only allow it to go so far as well.
As for the all thread you may try McMaster as I believe they have metric all thread in those sizes. Looking good and can't wait to see more. Tyler |
Re: Classy Shak
Love this build Mike it is by far the best most detailed build of a semi I have ever seen.. Nice work man keep it up.

Re: Classy Shak
Glad to see the Shak is Back Mike. Great idea with the dual function on the fifth wheel. The way I built my wife's truck I realize there is no way to run it manually :confused:
Thanks for posting and hope to see more:cool::) Mario. |
Re: Classy Shak

Re: Classy Shak
This is very detailed work, Mike. If you need some help getting answers to some of your questions, I’d suggest asking Stu (a.k.a. Old Busted Hotness). He scratch built several different scale projects over the years, including a 53’ dry-van with sliding tandems and an International to pull her with. They were both very detailed, excellent replicas. :)
http://www.scalemotorcars.com/forum/...r-scratch.html http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TUVMMRkr9cc It’s a good looking trailer. Keep up the good work and post pictures as you get more finished. :D :D - RCT |

Re: Classy Shak
Just a little update.
I got the linkage for the fifth wheel finished. While I don't have a servo for it yet, when I move the rod by hand it works perfect. and the best part... Ya can't see anything non 1:1 when looking at the truck. http://i587.photobucket.com/albums/s...6575851614.jpg |
Re: Classy Shak
hey mike..outstanding work ...this has got to be the most detailed realistic tractor i have ever seen so far since being in this hobby ..between the motor with the air to air and the fifth wheel pull pin ....you will need a purple and white pin puller hook to put in your side tool box:p..keep up the great work and purple is my favorite colour also ..i am watching this build every chance i get:D
|
Re: Classy Shak
This build is truly amazing Mike, you should be very proud. Any idea how long until we will see some color on this masterpiece?
