Re: D11 New Project
Today we was able to hook up the speed controller to do a small motor drive test. Maybe next week a rolling test?
Thanks for looking- Paul http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u_MrUgwWjKM |
Re: D11 New Project
Great job Paul can't wait to see it rolling. Ed

Re: D11 New Project
Very nice! The motor and drivetrain seems virtually silent and is as smooth as can be.

Re: D11 New Project
The latest update is the start of the back plate to the chassis.

Re: D11 New Project
Ok It's been a long time coming but this week it runs for the first time.:)
I think the sealed battery used is not suitable, I will continue to test the drive system with other types of batteries (Lipo) Hope you enjoy it as much as I did driving.:bounce: http://youtu.be/l9dH5UJLsu4?t=1s |
Re: D11 New Project
That's looking really great! Will it spin the tracks on carpet or have you even had time to test it's strength?
Keep up the great work! |
Re: D11 New Project
Nice work Paul, looking forwart to see this beast pushing dirt.

Trying to get it to turn on the spot is a problem at the moment. 12v at the battery and after the servonaut m220 only 8.5v at the motors not sure why. any ideas? Paul |
Re: D11 New Project
Here is another vid showing a bit of power pushing a trolley (about 40kg) on concrete.
The blade weighs nearly 4kg on it's own(steel) and I think this is the issue for turning as when the blade is off turning is no problem. The new blade will be made from ali and will weigh about 1 kg. I also have put a lipo 14.8v battery on board to try to get better performance. Testing continues. Paul:) http://youtu.be/Fnvhg-ceUqs |
Re: D11 New Project
I'm not sure what would cause the voltage drop. I know that happens with my Volvo occasionally because the slew ring I made doesn't always make good contact but I doubt a wiring connection is your problem. I have learned the hard way though that it takes a tremendous amount of power to turn a heavy model on grass or carpet. You may find that your motors are just not up to snuff. The machine looks awesome though and seems to function perfectly on smooth concrete so I'm sure if you can up the power somehow it will be fantastic!

Thanks Reg, I now have 4s lipo and have set the speed controller to 100%, so at full charge on the battery I get 16.3v. This has made a big difference. The speed is too fast for scale so a change in gear ratio is coming in the next week or so. I am waiting for a delivery from Germany for some new gears from my friend. This will make the scale speed better and have a lot more torque. Here is a new video. Hope you like it. Paul http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZoBAcNjw1-4 |
Re: D11 New Project
Hello Paul very nice video. I't a shame you can't put a hi and low speed in your drive system. I believe dirtpusher 9 used drill motors and used the hi and low system from them and from what I seen it worked great. LilGiants Joe has the dozer now. That way you would have the fast speed when traveling and a low speed when pushing. Ed

Re: D11 New Project
Looking good! Looks like you need to get some wear on those tracks so that they hang a little more...sounds like a great excuse to run the **** out of it to me! I'm sure the gearing change will get you right where you want to be. Keep posting updates!

Re: D11 New Project
Looking great Paul...
It will be interesting to see what the gearing reduction brings... If the current gearing running at 100% is comparable to the travel speed, then I would be tempted to leave it... and see if the power is enough at lower speeds. Either way it is looking great and I will have to make the trip over when it's finished and see it in the flesh! Cheers, AP |
Re: D11 New Project
Awesome! It moves under it's own power. Very satisfying!

Re: D11 New Project
This is fantastic pal. I'd love to own one of these!! Dont have the skill to build one unfortunately.

The gearing on the motors are still under test, new gears are on the way to me now and will provide even more torque than now. At the moment it will push about 30-40kg on concrete so with the change of gears it will be better than that. If I need more pushing power than that I would stop drinking beer for a week:D( maybe not: ) The speed controller is a SMX from Servonaut, can you please let me know of another to upgrade to as this is the only type I know of. Hi Guys, Here is a small update on the hydraulic cylinders.

Paul those are some very nice cylinders and some very nice machining. Ed

Very nice progress, intresting to see pics in the making!

Re: D11 New Project
Hey Paul....great job on the dozer build or should I say "builds"...looking forward to seeing more !!! ( and yes I finally got on here...LOL )

Re: D11 New Project
I do have to say that this and another build have been the inspiration for me to start on just such a project!! Excellent work, keep posting the progress. If by chance you would be willing to share some of your plans I would be willing to compensate you for them. Did you have a cat manual to go from or just scale model?

Re: D11 New Project
New update, hydraulic ripper test today and all seems to be ok.
http://i1235.photobucket.com/albums/...pse1be6bbb.jpg Here is a video of the ripper in action, more to come soon. http://youtu.be/bAw-6Jib5_8 Paul |
Re: D11 New Project
love the build
|
Re: D11 New Project
It's awesome to see the ripper and hydraulics functioning. What pressure was the pump running at? Those cylinders seem to have enough power to be able to lift the rear of the dozer off it's tracks.

Re: D11 New Project
Man, that is a sweet shop to fabricate. I love the dozer, very nice to see the details and the detailed info in this thread. Cant wait to see that first one done. I have a stahl dozer that I am going to make some mods. Nothing like this, but this has at least inspired me to replace the hardware with scale screws.
Thanks, Eddie |
Re: D11 New Project
Hi Eddie,
I also like the Stahl dozer I tried to get one not so long ago through a friend but failed, maybe in the future. When you have done your mods please share some photos. Paul |

Hello. Yes I was fortunate to get my hands on this one. It has been sitting on a shelf with my other machines. It did not have hydraulics when I purchased it. I love hydraulics and my plan was to install hydraulics. But after operating this dozer with this super robust mechanical lift mechanism, I decided to leave it. I was impressed with the power combined with the smooth movements. It has limit switches for the up and down. So no hydraulics in this machine. But It will get some other mods.
It is amazing at all of the dozer talk on this forum. I am so impressed with the details. When I first got into the construction and hyraulic RC, I wasn't much of a dozer fan. But that definitely changed. I guess we just love Dozers! Thanks, Eddie |
Re: D11 New Project
Nice tracked equipment thing u have as they say the hydraulic conversion converts it to a fully working beast I suggest u put hydraulics in it regards Jake

Re: D11 New Project
#2 now rolls with different gearing a bit slower but more power. Here is a short video.

Re: D11 New Project
Great work on the "triple dozers". The speed of this one looks realistic. Your attention to details places this dozer very high on the great builds list. Looking forward to more progress.
