well a little set back :( need to remake the front :( I had issues with the z link then once I got the right dimensions for that I also got the right boom , cylinder dimensions . I thought I could get away with just remaking the boom  but now I can't get the bucket flat on the ground  I could add extensions to the boom frame work to bring the boom pivot point up , BUT that'll look like poo . Soooooooooo , re-cut time  but in steel :D not to worried about weight ;) |

Re: 990 cat loader (WORKING)
F in A Cotton... F in A....
Nice job Steve! All these excavators being built right now is making me want to build another one myself! I only wish I could build with that level of quality. Reg |
Re: 990 cat loader (WORKING)
Thanks Reg , you do a fine job your self . I got that VMC to help with the parts I make for ppl , if it wasn't for that , I'd be building the same way you are with manual machines . I spent some stick time today with the loader . A lot of the probs I have is the transition from real machine control to the radio . I'm gettin it though . no vids though :o I gotta fig. why the h3!! it takes so long to upload anything anymore

Re: 990 cat loader (WORKING)
As you all know , I haven't been happy with the tires available to us  . Sooo I've been doodling in Acad for a bit ;) this is what I came up with .
http://i830.photobucket.com/albums/z...TIRE-Model.jpg I already got the mold halves drawn but vismill will not load them up for some reason  might be way to complex for a cheap cam program  Or I got to upgrade to pro  http://i830.photobucket.com/albums/z...IRE2-Model.jpg I'm going to make some kind of home made injection molder ;) still trying to werk it out in my head  werse case I'll just pour them like Tom did with his triple 7 ;) Back to werk  |
Re: 990 cat loader (WORKING)

Re: 990 cat loader (WORKING)
didn't make indy or nat. pike shows so I spent a few hrs movin packed sand and #57 gravel mix . the remnants from pouring my shop floor a couple years ago . no vids :o I attached all the teeth 1st , boy this thing can dig :D . 1st pic shows the reason for the 12 lbs counter weight has at least that in the bucket .
I hope to get some primer this week when I go out for appointments . I'm just reluctant to tear it down to paint like the mack :o they work :o http://i830.photobucket.com/albums/z...ilder/8191.jpg http://i830.photobucket.com/albums/z...ilder/8192.jpg |

Re: 990 cat loader (WORKING)
Steve the loaders lookin great. The tires however are looking just a little on the squishy side of the spectrum with that 24lb load on them.

Re: 990 cat loader (WORKING)
Looks great Steve!! That thing is a work horse for sure!

Re: 990 cat loader (WORKING)
Thank you guys :) Tyler , I still need to fill them , I was recommended a certain type of expandable foam used in auto-body to fill them that still gives a little . I just didn't get to my auto-body supply to get it yet (my primer too :o ) . I updated the software(?) in my radio . now all my mixes work properly :) . Here's a few of me stock piling stone (scale R4 rip rap ;)) using my m12 batteries . I'm getting longer run times /charge now . Also , this is a great way to get rid of a yellow jacket nest and not get stung :D:eek: no vid though :o . the kid got stung friday by them just "walkin" (So he said:rolleyes:)by the bush they decided to build their nest under on the far side of the pool .
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6drW6jqm7zo http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fVn8pXF6JQA looks like i might have to get 1 of those go-Pro's (?) someday |
Re: 990 cat loader (WORKING)
Videos looked great!! That loader is a beast!

Re: 990 cat loader (WORKING)
I just found a 2 part foam used in Wheelbarrow wheels, it's softer than what they used in skid steer tire. I have some samples on the way to try out. It's around 5.50 per lb plus ship.

Re: 990 cat loader (WORKING)
Hey Steve :) been watching your progress and this baby is digging just like the real machine :D:D I see tires have been an issue your working through. I'm sure you saw it coming when you changed from aluminum to steel frame. I know you'll get it resolved . Can I make one suggestion..... The bucket function seems really, really fast. If you could slow down the bucket function it may give a better impression of the real size and scale of it. With 20+ tons in the bucket, you really don't want a snappy fast function I tell ya:eek: :)

Re: 990 cat loader (WORKING)
Thanks , Mario :) I'm pleased with it except a few little bugs ( valves & tires ) I was informed , that to use this machine in the rubber pits , I'll have to put a GP straight edge bucket on it or I may tear up the carpet :rolleyes::D at indy next year .

Re: 990 cat loader (WORKING)

You better not tear up the carpet at the Marriott !! They might not let us return or worse yet, impound all our toys until the carpet is paid for.:D I just had a crazy thought..... Could you make bucket teeth that would mount to actual shanks? The teeth could be cast out of some softer metal and actually wear out depending the material your in ??? ....I know, crazy. That loader digging rubber pellets ??? Hope you got a big coal bucket for it:D load a truck in 3 scoops:cool: |

Re: 990 cat loader (Earl Shibbed)
well the loader blew apart  so I decided to paint it (well let ol earl do it for $99.95 :p:p ) still putting it back together and waiting on some cylinders for the steering . the clippard 1's just didn't werk out to well and my lathe time is precious

Re: 990 cat loader (Earl Shiebbed)
Sorry to hear she blew up ! but, looks like in the end , good things come from bad events . Can't wait to see it assembled. ( I say assembled now cuz I hate the words " it's done " ....lol
Looks good Steve, money well spent on the paint job:) Mario |

So now that you have perfected your painting skills is the Mack rolling into the paint booth next?:p

Re: 990 cat loader (Earl Shiebbed)

mario , good thoughts I just need 11" tires  yes on the caps for the 990 I just gotta get done cuttin aluminum or just shut down on it for a bit to clean the aluminum out of the mill for steel cutting . I don't want to mix the 2 Craig , I wouldn't call it a pro job , As the title states Earl S paint job for now ;) it started getting cold here before I got to paint it . I was hoping to paint 2 other models at the same time (all cats) ;) |
Re: 990 cat loader (Earl Shiebbed)
I think it looks good! Sucks it blew up but maybe it did for a reason? It wanted paint :) hmmm 11" tires? what are you thinking of converting it into? Now put it back together so we can see the showroom new look.
|
Re: 990 cat loader (Earl Shiebbed)
? , you guys really think it blew up  :rolleyes: :p:p:p:p:p:p:p:p 11" tires belong on a 994 not this little loader ;)
