Greg, that is looking great! Did you turn the "sleeves" on the up right cylinders then epoxy them in place? Do you make the pads or buy them from somewhere? Yet again, I another model out of the V.I.B.C. Logging fleet I like to have...keep it up.

Ben I just cut the mounting brackets off the tops of the cylinders. I epoxy the use set screws to hold the cylinders in the mounts. Checkout page 3 and 4 of my thread and I have photo's of how I do the pads, they are a Home-Depot item. ;)

Thanks for checking out the build guys.

Joe it is comimg along quickly now, have some planitarys to build and then start on the hood and cab. Got some more detail / trim things built. step on blade,step for rad, and blade dirt deflecters

Looks great! How are you goind to build the planetaries? I bought a 37mm OD planetary transmission from RC4wd to take apart to make 2 x 4:1 planetaries (to be combined with 2:1 right angle drive for a total reduction of 8:1) for my 527 one day down the road.

All the mechanical work is now done, only cosmetic building left to do.

Richard The motors are in the machine already, the planetary are like some gals I know ( you know, there planetarys look good but there fake ) :D ;)
I will lathe some 3 inch round to fit on sprockets...

Sounds like the CAT 527 is not that far in the future..

Greg, your moving right along with the 8. Some of you guys amaze me how fast you build. The 8 looks like it is going to be force to be reckoned with. Can't wait to see it pushing.

Thanks guys, the D8 is coming along, it is amazing how time slips by when I am working on a model, at times it seems like things are moving along fast, then I look at the clock ! ! Missed some building time last weekend due to the show and shine we attended last weekend, but had a good time with the train folks..

I built it in 1/14 scale, it is 9 inchs wide, 12 high, and 24 long form ripper to blade cutting edge.. i would guess it will be around 30 pounds when done, could always add weight in the belly if need be.. :D

The hood and cab are made out of styrine and thats how it will stay. This is the first time I have used styrine, I have lots to learn. But I must say, it is very strong and you don't have to weld or bolt it, just lay the MEK and bang it together...:eek:

Richard : I will use a sabertooth in it. They work well with no problems.

Really looking good. Are you going to try and hinge the cab doors. The red colour is that primer or filler?
