I hauled a little dirt yesterday....and a loader:D. Sound definitely adds a realism to these things and makes them more fun. Too bad the sound units are expensive:(.

Thanks a lot guys. My only real regrets that I have with this truck is that I didn't scratch build a rolling chassis for it. I won't have those regrets with the one I am building now;).

Thanks very much guys! After playing with the conveyor for a few hours I decided to move some dirt with the Hayes. The difference in scale between the EC300D and the truck makes for some careful operation while loading. The truck box is about 6 3/4"-7" inside and the bucket on the excavator is 6". Not much room for error and I'm not the best operator!lol

So I had a bunch of mechanical problems yesterday. The loader lost it's bucket curl actuator and the Hayes had some driveline issues. The wire broke off on the actuator on the loader at the circuit board. This is the second time I have had this problem with it. Re-soldering it back on is no treat but with some care it can be done. I got it back up and running within a few minutes this morning. The Hayes started to have trans issues and the hot glue failed in the rear diff. The diff was an easy fix as I just took it apart and replaced the glue with more of the same. When I did it the first time I was running out of glue and didn't have enough to fully cover the gear teeth. This time it should stand up just fine! I also decided to lock the front drivers too although after doing a test drive I may open it up again. Traction is improved a bit but when fully loaded on loose soil it doesn't steer very well anymore. I'm not really surprised and to be honest that's why I didn't do it in the first place. The trans was an easy fix as well but required removing the battery, cab, floor, fender brace and then of course the transmission itself. I used a cordless screwdriver for power and it has been working very well up until yesterday. It has a clutch inside it much like a better quality cordless drill. I think in this case it is more intended to provide protection for the gears than adjust the torque output but at any rate it started to slip so I needed to fix it. I have a couple of spares so I took a look at one of them prior to taking the truck apart. A quick look at the new one confirmed my theory of what was wrong so I started tearing into the truck. In the pictures you will see that the sun gear is steel along with the other pieces of the clutch type thingy. The problem is that the outer case is plastic and the steel dowels that keep the assembly from slipping sit in that outer case. As the plastic stretches from repeated abuse the dowels sink and that allows it to slip easier than it should. My solution was to remove the dowels all together and weld the sun gear to the slipper parts. It seems to work and there is no way for it to slip now unless it tears the gears up!:cop:

Well I had another transmission issue a while back but have been too busy to fix it. I dropped some stuff off at the powder coater this morning so while I wait to get that back I decided to take the afternoon off so to speak and work on my own stuff for a couple of hours. The planetary drive started to make noise occasionally a while back but kept going. A month or so ago I was using the Hayes to bench test something and I was running it with the rear wheels off the ground when the noise got louder and louder and eventually all stopped except the buzz of the motor. The way I built this truck was not all that smart because I have to take the cab off to remove the trans. It comes out the bottom but bolts in through the top. Not a huge job but my big KW and Euclid trans come out the bottom and I built them first. Sure enough they are easy to remove but have never needed to come out. Sometimes we think we learn more and get smarter but..:rolleyes:.lol Anyway, enough chatter. Here is what I found and a video showing the issues and fix. I hope...

No I haven't. They are too expensive for me!lol I can only get one ratio in Canada(cost about $57CAD) and seems to work great for the trailers but it would be way too slow for the trucks. Those motors are 12v too which would make matters even worse since the truck is 7.2v. I tried ordering motors direct from Servo City last year so that I could get different ratios but shipping on the $40US motor was $40US! I believe Mario had ordered from them right around the same time and got dinged an additional fee for duty as well as the over inflated shipping cost(wasn't happy). I am sure they would work fine as they seem to be very strong but these things I'm using seem OK for the cost. If I can get 1 1/2 years out of a $10CAD setup I'm happy.lol I have a hoard of 12-18v drills here now and they are begging to go into another 1/10 scale project. It's almost time to start building in the "manly" scale again instead of these dinky toys.lol
