Re: S&M construction open for bizz nizz!
blade tilt looks good, what size servo are you using and will it take a lot of load.
and Im with you on the cabin fever thing. not too many shows in New Zealand, and nothing ive seen on the scale its done in Europe. the mrs wants to go to the states and Canada , as ive already been I think we will have to time it when there is a rc show on.( wink wink) problem is it will probably cost me a fortune with carry on luggage on the return trip. cheers andy |

I'm still learning and getting an idea of what torque specs and actual strength they achieve. These 2 micro servos are rated @ 2.5 kg torque each. I'm hoping they will keep the blade firm and if not I'll have to try a stronger type. I'm not sure what the highest torq micro servo is? Oh, and not cost a fortune. :) |

:D:cool: now that's great to see! so atleast the hat made it to cabin fever. Come **** or high water I have to be there next year! You guys had a great looking set up. |
Re: S&M construction open for bizz nizz!
Weather has finally taken a turn for the good.:) should be back in the yard soon. In the meantime I have the dozer with new blade tip function to try in the rubber pile. Sadly I forgot about how weak the BEC is in a Sabertooth controller. It keeps cutting out as I try to run the 2 micro servos on the blade. So now I wait once again for who knows how long until the extra BEC arrives.....
Anxious to try with the servonaut sound and new radio I said the heck with blade tip for now and give it a test! http://youtu.be/_9FBDL8mlQA |
Re: S&M construction open for bizz nizz!
Nice Mario!!! You unwittingly made me start looking for a sound card!! $&*##!!
Yup, I kept the hat slobber free!! I was going to suprize you and get a hat at the local cat dealer and feed to dog so i could mess with ya !! But he has had too many hats, shoes, remotes, belts and I definately don't want to encourage him!! He doesn't really like cats anyway!!! Lol!!! And knowing cat stuff a hat is probably $50. !!! I did get a free track shovel from them, only had to buy a skidsteer!! |

Glad you like and wore the hat to the show. I hate to burst your bubble but..... 10 bucks Canadian for the hat so don't feel bad if it accidently gets chewed, It can be replaced. :D:lol: |
Re: S&M construction open for bizz nizz!
S&M trucking and construction had a big corporate meeting this evening.
Looking back on last year we realized about 80% of funds and focus went into starting the open pit and creating a screening area. Because of this focus the trucking division really took a nosedive. The highway trucks only ran once at the Clifford show and never did run in the backyard! Yes, that's almost shelf queen status!:cop: So to prevent that this season, the company has decided to invest the months of May - July in trucking infrastructure and then continue open pit work July - sept.:D It only makes sense. All my RC buddies in southern Ontario have trucks and if I want them to come up here And run in my park, nothing but a big open pit and pile of dirt ain't gonna help ! |
Re: S&M construction open for bizz nizz!
cool video i'll take 3 hats @ $10. each at my cat dealer here there $34.99 each

Re: S&M construction open for bizz nizz!
Hey Mario, if you are at work and have some info on d11 regular (u blade ?) or good pics, don't have to be a good quality but good idea of angles, I could use um. Working on making a new dirt blade instead of the coal blade I originally built. I've been taking numbers off a norscot 1:50 model but it's not the same dirt blade I've been looking at in the shop book.Only if you have access to something like that and it's not out of your way. Guess I would owe you then :). Lol!!
What are you going to do for roads in the backyard? Just dirt or you planning on something harder? |
Re: S&M construction open for bizz nizz!

It's a quick non permanent way to get an idea of how it's all going to work. And very cheap, I go to the damaged shingle pile at the lumber yard and get the bundles for 12 bucks. I'd say 50% of the road is written in stone and won't be moved. That's where I want to start using dirt from the open pit as a road base under the shingles for a season then following year remove shingles, wire mesh and pour cement? Another option I'm thinking about is cold patch asphalt. Considering I have a lot of road it's too much cash to buy it at the store. I'm working on maybe getting some from a buddy in the city roads dept. :);). |
Re: S&M construction open for bizz nizz!
Don't know about you Canadians!! Just too devoted and too ambitious!!! Lol!!! I'm just jealous , I'm afraid if I branch out and install any road, I need to build one about 50' to the future tree stump dig site, from the open pit that it may keep getting debris dropped on it (dogasaurisrex) or even dug up by dogazilla!!! Sometimes a spade shovel is full from the not so fun to dig in dog dirt !! I like the idea of shingles, have lots of them to use:)
|
Re: S&M construction open for bizz nizz!
Hey cooper you need to fence the road off to keep all your livestock of the highway . Mike
|
Re: S&M construction open for bizz nizz!
So that's it! No more talking about next year, no more thinking about " the plan " ......it's time to dig! :bounce:
First time in the pit today and I'm loving it! All been worth the wait and looking forward to the next few months:) Still more impressed with the HK hoe. Only run a few times in the rubber this winter and yet , drop it in the pit and go dig. No glitches, no leaks. :D New plan this year is to ease up on the wear n tear ripping at the roots so now I cheat a little...my version of dynamite, I chop up a section I want to dig with a spade shovel first to cut up the roots and seems to work well so far. Enough chatter, sorry no time for pics. Too busy taking a couple vids and digging dirt in...... Looks like the fun has started!
|
Re: S&M construction open for bizz nizz!
Spring/ Summer is here, Looks like your having fun Mario. Cooper brought up a good question, roads, are you going to use your shingles again or just dirt?
|
Re: S&M construction open for bizz nizz!

Going to stay with shingles again this year. It was just today I moved the road again in a few places as I figure out where stuff will go. Eventually I want something more permanent and solid. Maybe cold patch asphalt or crusher fines and concrete powder next year. |
Re: S&M construction open for bizz nizz!
I must start this post with an apology to RCP57.
I'm sorry Reg, I will never bust your chops about using big equipment when you could do it RC size in your compound. I am now guilty of the same. It's time to start changing the screener area layout and had a lot of dirt to move. Could've been done with rc but would have taken all summer just to move the dirt! So i broke out the shovel and wheelbarrow once again. :o. Like Flatdeck said , sometimes a job calls for a big shovel. Not complete yet, still have to make a retaining wall for where the screener will go but you'll get the idea. And the flat bar is an approx location and angle of the conveyors. A 4ft at the dump zone and a 6ft from the screener to a storage hopper. http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/...psavk9qata.jpg http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/...ps8xbqcphr.jpg http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/...ps21sjpolk.jpg http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/...pscoqerhrv.jpg Also got the fencing up around the pit and added some new rocks for berms. http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/...psg7ogkyrq.jpg http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/...psngocpaqy.jpg The rocks I'm using are unique themselves. I've collected them found in the belly pans and boxes of underground equipment. So these rocks are from over 2,000 ft underground, solid rock that's been blasted and mined...... Kinda cool I think. http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/...ps9oxkbmqg.jpg |
Re: S&M construction open for bizz nizz!
Hey Mario, no hard feelings!lol The way I see it some things just aren't realistically accomplished by the RC stuff. If someone wants to take years to move some dirt or have it done in a week by using life size equipment that's OK either way. We all have different ideas on what is fun and how to have it. I still used toys to build my play area, they just happened to be life size. For me I am more interested in getting my main area established and then fine tuning it with the toys. I think that is what you are tying to accomplish too! I like what you are doing so far! Once the sort area is finished there will be a lot going on there to keep you busy! I like the rocks too! I have a big rock on our front steps that we caught on our longline gear years ago. We hauled it up out of 100+ fathoms of water in Barkley Canyon off the coast here. I figured if it made it to the surface from that depth while only being held by one little fish hook it must be worth keeping!
|
Re: S&M construction open for bizz nizz!
Yup, I guilty!! I was pickin on reg too!! It is hard trying to move a 600# rock, I used human power (but regretted it and should have used diesel power!!) now it's back to RC power!! I too have to admit, I traveled to a lot of places in north and Central America, instead of souvenirs I gathered small rocks. Corrals, limestone, basalt , ruins, jades, quartz, shales, most I don't even know. Just stumble across something baseball size from the local area and transported home. Some legal, some undeclared, some possible illegal? But great reminders of travels and adventures. And the farm we bought years ago was owned by a part time geologist, (teacher ?) anytime a shovel go in the ground we dig up weird rocks/fossils, definately not native stuff. Kind of just gives ya a simple reminder of where you were or what ya did. The backyard it looking better and better Mario, once ya get rid of the roots it looks like good diggin dirt!! I don't have roots anymore but the dirt is riddled with 1-2" river pebbles from the old fish pond. Just the right size to be a p.i.t.a. When diggin!!! Reg ya got the west coast, Mario you are working on the east coast, if my father wouldn't harass me forever I'd have an indoor barn basement dig site, lights, water system, semi-climate controlled, ect,,, but he already thinks I'm nuts!! Lol!! Although back in racing days I had 3 different mx/sx tracks, so the family supports the RC stuff, haven't gotten hurt from any of this!! 40+ and still lovin being a man child!!

Re: S&M construction open for bizz nizz!
Well..... Moved some more dirt today, non RC style :o. But this is for a means to an end so it's ok.;). Gave me a chance to visualize what the heck I'm trying to create and I've made a change in plan now. I wanted to store clean material in a elevated hopper that I could open and close with a servo from a radio?.....naaawh, too fancy and not needed. Now that I look at it, I think just parking a truck under the conveyor when screening will do just fine. No worries of dealing with packed dirt clogged in the hopper or how high the thing would have to be ....etc.
Here's a few pics, tell me what you think. Make a hopper to store a truck load of dirt , or just load as I clean the stuff? It's all because of Indy when I first saw a Sandmaster. I've wanted to do something like that ever since! http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/...ps3evexitt.jpg http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/...pspey0opgr.jpg http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/...psqcpbeg3d.jpg http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/...psfetqi7cz.jpg http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/...psxqodhkl1.jpg And funny how things work out. I was just saying last week I need to start working on the loading dock areas. Well, I pulled the tarp off the dock the other day and saw this..... http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/...psk4vwuwpn.jpg http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/...pskhrigkel.jpg http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/...psliuau0ya.jpg Not surprised though. I didn't figure the wood could survive outdoors. I tried my best to preserve. Didn't work.....on to plan B...... |
Re: S&M construction open for bizz nizz!
Hey Mario why don't you mix some concrete for you loading dock with some wire in it . Mike
|
Re: S&M construction open for bizz nizz!
I don't know Mike. Sounds too permanent for me once it's built. i might just cover with a sheet of tin and paint it or maybe cover with tar paper?
It's been 7 months since the last time my rc park was all clean and free of leaves and stuff. It took me most of the day, a whole lotta raking and 14 leaf bags later, the rc park is cleaner than ever and looking good.:bounce: All that time spent last summer cleaning and weeding things out has paid off. I got nothin but dirt.:D http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/...ps2qrqjsht.jpg http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/...psxju4iyfk.jpg http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/...pskthx1yzl.jpg http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/...psfnfop326.jpg http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/...psvypubevg.jpg http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/...psfj2bdzcf.jpg I couldn't have asked for a better backyard to build a RC park in. Looking forward to sharing with friends and have a great time.:) Yup, I'm lonely too Reg. |

Update on the conveyor build. I'm starting with the 6ft long tire tube belt. I figure this is the one to learn on. And experiment so when I'm ready to make the other conveyor with the treadmill belt RW gave me, and rollers by Reg, I'm less likely to screw it up. :) This by no means is a fancy work of art and duplicates a real conveyor. This is all about making something that works , that's it. Once I got it together I realized all I did is make a homemade erector set! Some flat bar, 1/4" threaded rod and some nuts......can't go wrong! So wooden beads for support rollers with furniture anti skid rubber pucks from the dollar store work well. The loose fit allows them to tilt and form to the belt.:) http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/...pszsz2amtz.jpg http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/...psyfwqjon6.jpg http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/...psvpq55rjb.jpg http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/...ps3wu3clnq.jpg Turned out ok. The belt has a nice natural curve to it and it runs straight! http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/...psgcnbwnsw.jpg http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/...psfjsmicah.jpg http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/...psaofvukfk.jpg Up next is the drive system...... http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/...ps7wnmpjqm.jpg http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/...pst9hqbt44.jpg I sure hope this motor works! I have no plan B right now and summer could be over by the time another motor order arrives:eek: |

Wow, I'm impressed!! That screener with conveyor is perfect!! At first I was thinking too slow but with the fine material and how you have the box set up as a gate, it's perfect!! Great job on this set up!! I haven't had the time to get my setup but I'm going to change some things around after seeing yours!!

AWESOME job Mario!!
Bring your whole backyard to Indy in August!!:bounce::bounce: -Terry |

I was leaning toward a trommel screen myself, but I am impressed with your shaker setup, as well as the belt conveyor.

Re: S&M construction open for bizz nizz!
Looks and works great . I would be running a track and loading rail cars
|
Re: S&M construction open for bizz nizz!
Supermario-looks like your outdoor site is coming along nicely. I enjoy looking at all the different construction sites. Maybe you need to use some exterior plywood on the loading dock, or just paint new plywood with epoxy. Looking good!!

Re: S&M construction open for bizz nizz!
That turned out nice, works great Mario! So what's next? Looks like you need some help up there!

Looking forward to seeing you again next year! Lots to show and talk about since the last time we met:) Quote:
It was quicker, cheaper and less complex to build the shaker and then add the conveyor. It's all about personal preference and needs I guess. A portable trommel like Lou's is more site flexible, my shaker is a very site specific set up but I have the space for it so,it's all good! :) Quote:
Quote:
I like the exterior plywood idea but hard to get thin and cheap. i live in steel town so hoping to find a sheet of something I'll never have to worry about for the rest of my life anyway. :D Quote:
Next is another conveyor.... 4ft . Used to stock pile dirt from the pit before going through the shaker. i also need to make my first attempt at a scale building. I want to make a shaker operator shack which will have the 3 ESC's , RX and battery inside and will run the whole operation from a 6ch radio...... Yes , I don't need 6 channels but I have ideas for the spare channels...:D..... I'm thinking I could run my 3 lighting plants I got from exclusive rc through the radio maybe and control lighting from the radio also ?:D |
Re: S&M construction open for bizz nizz!
Finally stopped raining and got a chance to get a few pics of the screener and conveyor. My bad habit, I post vids and forget the pics.:)
I still want to throw a coat of paint on everything, probably a shade a grey and some DOT tape here n there and if I get real ambitious , maybe some LEDs along the conveyor! :D http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/...psdclpxrov.jpg http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/...psiupjkeps.jpg http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/...psctg1jqr8.jpg http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/...ps4max5v5r.jpg http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/...pssgwyeat2.jpg |
Re: S&M construction open for bizz nizz!
Mario if you build a trestle over your hopper so the train can dump into it ,and then a track under the conveyer to catch the fine dirt and of it goes to Toronto by train and you could sell your trucks and you would have lots of money .just my thought Mike
