It was fun to finally see the big KW hauling a load on my road network. Still some work to do on the road as there is one spot where it rises and falls too much and the front wheels of the truck come off the ground. I still haven't decided what direction to head with the new truck. I'm thinking it maybe another dump but will have a water tank that drops in like John Stilwell did with his Mack.

I'm glad you guys liked the videos! I always struggle with trying to hold the camera and drive the trucks. I've had a few close calls now!lol Oh well, I guess it adds to the excitement when you nearly roll a truck!

Check out these cans my wife and I found at the dollar store yesterday! They are a bit big for 1/14 but are almost perfect with my 1/10 stuff. For $1.25 each I couldn't resist.

PS, why is it called a "dollar" store when everything is at least $1.25?

My wife and I had a little RC fun last night. The ground is so loose thanks to our lack of rain that I had to water the road before we could haul gravel. It's a good thing I built a water truck!

I you stop by sometime make sure your truck is locked in both drive axles. The roads are steeper than they lock and it will be frustrating getting stuck all of the time....Trust me!

I decided to play a bit this morning.

Even in the RC world you have to watch out for wildlife on the roads. If I waited for this guy to cross my shift at the compound would have been over:rolleyes:.

Well it's been a long time since I've done anything major to the play area but with fall in the air and moisture hitting the ground I thought it was time. I have been wanting to add a "lake" to the compound since the start so I got on with it tonight. I may get flamed for using my mini excavator but flame away! It's a toy to me so I don't feel like it's cheating.:p I will have plenty of work to do graveling the new road surface and once it rains regularly the pond will fill up. Who knows, I may see an A frame dump and boom boat in my future. This is a logging operation after all... I used some of the dirt to raise up the new road and also added a ramp up onto the existing road near the shop door.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VoWZV6cbGOI

The dirt under the tree roots was prefect!

Although I think your idea is a good one Mike, it is not going to happen. I can't afford another hobby within this hobby(trains)! My wife was smiling at me when she got home last night and saw what I had done. She said "people must think we are crazy. Everything we get into starts out small and then gets out of control".lol I just can't help myself.....

Haha, yes I do have it bad! I need to sort out the pond this weekend as it's supposed to start raining again Monday. Once it has water in it things will be more difficult to "adjust". I agree with your quotes. I get as much enjoyment out of running the fullsize equipment so using it to build a play area for the RC's is a win win. Once the area is roughed in I like to drive around hauling loads of gravel here and there doing touch ups and other small work. Digging the pond with RC's would have never happened anyway as my mini would hardly dig the ground using the cleanup bucket. It is packed hard!

Haha, I'm ok taking heat from you two. I know when I dish it back you guys can take it! Yes we have a bigger pond in our yard. Originally, this is where I started my play area but it was too much of a pain to move everything down there from the shop. By the time I moved a few toys I would run out of ambition for it. Lou was trying to convince me to haul logs from the new play area down hill to the big pond a few days ago. It would be sweet as there is enough room down there to dump into the water, sort and boom the logs, then tow them around. We'll see....

It would be great to have some company here so I hope you can make the trip someday!

Yeah I've been trying to get Lou and Jason out here for weeks but when they're free I'm busy and vice versa. Hopefully one day we can have an organized event here.

Oh, I almost forgot. I hauled the first couple of loads on the new section of road yesterday. I think last evening was the nicest it's been all year. Warm but not too hot and not too many bugs. It was beautiful! Too bad no one was here to enjoy it with me...:( I had to hog it all to myself

RCP57 09-14-2015 12:14 AM

Re: RCP Compound

No secrets here. Honestly this will be the first diecast I have tried to convert. It may be a slow process because even though I have a bunch of actuators lying around only a couple of them are right for the job. The good thing is it looks like they will work our fairly well when I can get some more in the right sizes and ratios.

Re: RCP Compound

I ran a loooooonnnnngggggg hose up from our garden pump and into the "lake". It took almost 3 full 100' hoses to reach and 3 hours worth of pumping but it's full enough to fill in around the sides with dirt! I measured the depth and it is about 32" at the deepest part to ground level so at it's current level I would say it's at least 2' deep everywhere. When it start raining it should be full nearly to ground level so this should be good. Now I really need to pay attention around the edges because my models aren't water proof!

Thanks guys. I started to work on the edges tonight but haven't made a lot of progress yet. I think some sort of "lip" will need to be installed in any areas where the road is close to the edge. I definitely don't want any wet models around my pond unless they are of the female variety:jaw::jaw::cool:

As for fish, we tried that before in the big pond. It was a steady line up of birds and mammals in all shapes and sizes dining for free like at a buffet. It sucks because as a fisherman, I love seeing fish.

The compound is looking great Reg, keep those creative juices flowing. :D

BTW, you could use the mining rule of thumb .......the road berms must be atleast 1/3rd the height of the largest wheel running on the road.
And that would be a great RC project.:D

Haha, well I really did plan on letting the rain fill it up but after I thought about it some more I decided against that. I started thinking it would take days of rain and I kinda wanted to babysit it as it filled making sure it was folded as neatly as possible in the corners. Doing this in the rain would take forever and get me soaked in the process. I hadn't put away our garden pump for winter yet so I thought I would give it a shot. Considering it was pushing water slightly uphill through 300' of hose it went pretty quickly. I took pictures every 15 min or so of the progress. Not really the most exciting so I only uploaded the start and finish pics. I bought some plastic moisture barrier yesterday and plan to use it in the "creek" leading to the "lake". I figure "Black Creek" and "Brown Lake".lol These names are subject to change...

I plan to do exactly as you suggest Mario for the berms. Along the waters edge I will be adding wooden strips so that I can keep the edge crisp allowing me to get right next to the water with the equipment. The rest will have a dirt or rock berm to prevent rolling down the bank and into the drink. Sounds good in theory doesn't it?

The constant buffet of fish was what caused the final destruction of my fish pond. I had several 16"+ koi and a blue herring was getting so use to my pond that I could go out on the back porch and he would still not move!! And they are normally taking flight if you get within 100 yards!! Somehow he was able to get those big fish out of water and just leave them to die in grass!! Ohh I was so mad at that bird!! Nice way to put it was getting the Pershing tank out and loading armor pearcing rounds into him!!! Na, illegal to shoot them but he was well fed before he departed to his next buffet!! The whole project looks killer reg!!! Keep up the cool work!!!!

I was up on the roof today blowing out the gutters for the third time in just over a week. I don't know if it is because our summer was so hot and dry or what but the cedar trees really seem to be losing a lot of dead branches:mad:. Not really anything to do with the compound but my wife and I went to visit some friends of ours up island yesterday. We got to take a Hayes HDX off-highway logging truck for a drive! That was something neither one of thought would ever happen in our lifetimes. After a few trips around the parking lot at the shop we each took a quick drive up the road to see what it was like at speed. I must say that it drives much nicer than the Old Euc we have at home here! I have never been in any other big trucks so I can't say how it compares to anything else but it drove pretty nice. We also had a very good and patient instructor.lol Later in the day I also got a ride through town in the Hayes HD dump truck pictured. All in all it was an awesome day!

I think my wife is more of a natural...
