Re: RCP Compound
Check out these cans my wife and I found at the dollar store yesterday! They are a bit big for 1/14 but are almost perfect with my 1/10 stuff. For $1.25 each I couldn't resist.
PS, why is it called a "dollar" store when everything is at least $1.25? http://i1293.photobucket.com/albums/...psssmgzyeh.jpg http://i1293.photobucket.com/albums/...psuk8mtfzx.jpg http://i1293.photobucket.com/albums/...pswmawszyy.jpg |
Re: RCP Compound
Reg, are you going to build one of those single driver recycle trucks now? :p
Jim |
Re: RCP Compound
My wife and I had a little RC fun last night. The ground is so loose thanks to our lack of rain that I had to water the road before we could haul gravel. It's a good thing I built a water truck!

Re: RCP Compound
;) doing a great job both of you looks like that pile of soil is gonna make a few scale miles of roads you both are going to have a great big road system when it is gone hehe i would love to have a look when i come to island to see my mom i will be sure to bring my truck and trailer hopefully i will have my dump and demolition box done by then
|
Re: RCP Compound
I you stop by sometime make sure your truck is locked in both drive axles. The roads are steeper than they lock and it will be frustrating getting stuck all of the time....Trust me!
I decided to play a bit this morning. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JJ3XEoRUdUw https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=374cqxgdIBY https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zQDPGDORTZQ Even in the RC world you have to watch out for wildlife on the roads. If I waited for this guy to cross my shift at the compound would have been over:rolleyes:. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=duyoQNnfDRw |
Re: RCP Compound
Well it's been a long time since I've done anything major to the play area but with fall in the air and moisture hitting the ground I thought it was time. I have been wanting to add a "lake" to the compound since the start so I got on with it tonight. I may get flamed for using my mini excavator but flame away! It's a toy to me so I don't feel like it's cheating.:p I will have plenty of work to do graveling the new road surface and once it rains regularly the pond will fill up. Who knows, I may see an A frame dump and boom boat in my future. This is a logging operation after all... I used some of the dirt to raise up the new road and also added a ramp up onto the existing road near the shop door.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VoWZV6cbGOI The dirt under the tree roots was prefect! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HDjQudCqLno http://i1293.photobucket.com/albums/...psxmij5q0o.jpg http://i1293.photobucket.com/albums/...pspgh7vqc6.jpg http://i1293.photobucket.com/albums/...pssubslota.jpg http://i1293.photobucket.com/albums/...psskmemmpd.jpg http://i1293.photobucket.com/albums/...psvushvhi2.jpg http://i1293.photobucket.com/albums/...pssxedbutz.jpg |
Re: RCP Compound
WOW THIS IS COOL AS ****!!
|
Re: RCP Compound
Logging train to pond reload to truck . Way to go Reg . Mike
|
Re: RCP Compound
Thanks guys. Now I just need some fellow truckers to come and haul on the roads.
Although I think your idea is a good one Mike, it is not going to happen. I can't afford another hobby within this hobby(trains)! My wife was smiling at me when she got home last night and saw what I had done. She said "people must think we are crazy. Everything we get into starts out small and then gets out of control".lol I just can't help myself..... |
Re: RCP Compound
One of the nicest setups I've seen hours of fun guaranteed!
|
Re: RCP Compound
Looks like a great start to a long project. Just wish you were closer!!
|
Re: RCP Compound
I think I will mail you some rail . Mike

Re: RCP Compound
Oops, looks like I've created a west coast monster:eek:...... Does this sound familiar? ...." Oh my friend, you have it bad....time to seek help."
Site looks great Reg. I'd say use some of that backyard pond liner material and you'll always have a spot to fill the water truck from. And you'll get no more flame from me. I have a new explanation for times like these. " it's a means to an end " or. " I want to play in my park with RC's , not build it with them! ". :D |
Re: RCP Compound
Awww we got to give him a hard time Mario, reg is built the best in the west, so it's only his fault we have to pick it apart!!! It's his own fault!! Lol!! Reg ,, you know it's only cuz we all wish we were there. !! Or had that bueatiful landscape to manipulate into RC heaven!!!
So , now I recal you have a rather large pond on the property!?!?? Some logging from that skidded to the log transport to a dock to a ship to a cross pond location to a mill to make lumber for more bridges,,,,, I guess I could go on and on lol!!! This is the addiction of what we all belong to!!! Hey reg, go big or go home right?!?! Lol!! Looks good brother!! And Mario, you got the east coast knocking on his door!! Ya both have me trying to plan the ultimate road trip!!! Keep it up. :) |
Re: RCP Compound
looks like reg is ready for every one to bring the tents, campers and anything to sleep in for the weekend end and we all come for some goodtimes:eek:

Oh, I almost forgot. I hauled the first couple of loads on the new section of road yesterday. I think last evening was the nicest it's been all year. Warm but not too hot and not too many bugs. It was beautiful! Too bad no one was here to enjoy it with me...:( I had to hog it all to myself  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mR5xXPCA3fQ |
Re: RCP Compound
Reg can't you get the loader to clear the sides with out the ramp? That is the trouble with most of the loaders that are made today.
|
Re: RCP Compound
My wife and I have been hitting the local swap and shop this summer when we've had time. Today was the first time I've found anything to get excited about. We picked up the backhoe for $20 and the Tonka for $2. I also got a tarp for the pond.

Re: RCP Compound
man I need to talk to you.... seriously! would you be willing in talk to me about some of your secrets on turning diecast EQ into working rc EQ??
|
Re: RCP Compound
No secrets here. Honestly this will be the first diecast I have tried to convert. It may be a slow process because even though I have a bunch of actuators lying around only a couple of them are right for the job. The good thing is it looks like they will work our fairly well when I can get some more in the right sizes and ratios.

Re: RCP Compound
I ran a loooooonnnnngggggg hose up from our garden pump and into the "lake". It took almost 3 full 100' hoses to reach and 3 hours worth of pumping but it's full enough to fill in around the sides with dirt! I measured the depth and it is about 32" at the deepest part to ground level so at it's current level I would say it's at least 2' deep everywhere. When it start raining it should be full nearly to ground level so this should be good. Now I really need to pay attention around the edges because my models aren't water proof!

Re: RCP Compound
Really cool
|
Re: RCP Compound
Looks nice Reg. first thing I thought of "wet models not good!"
|
Re: RCP Compound
all you need are some trout or salmon lol and you will have it made
|
Re: RCP Compound
Thanks guys. I started to work on the edges tonight but haven't made a lot of progress yet. I think some sort of "lip" will need to be installed in any areas where the road is close to the edge. I definitely don't want any wet models around my pond unless they are of the female variety:jaw::jaw::cool:
As for fish, we tried that before in the big pond. It was a steady line up of birds and mammals in all shapes and sizes dining for free like at a buffet. It sucks because as a fisherman, I love seeing fish. |
Re: RCP Compound
I watch you videos on Youtube, some great stuff you have going on there.
Chris |
Re: RCP Compound
buffet, now i'm hungry thanks reg
|
Re: RCP Compound
how did I know when you said "Counting on rain Monday " was going to turn into 300 feet of garden hose and let's get this done now!
The compound is looking great Reg, keep those creative juices flowing. :D BTW, you could use the mining rule of thumb .......the road berms must be atleast 1/3rd the height of the largest wheel running on the road. And that would be a great RC project.:D |
Re: RCP Compound

I plan to do exactly as you suggest Mario for the berms. Along the waters edge I will be adding wooden strips so that I can keep the edge crisp allowing me to get right next to the water with the equipment. The rest will have a dirt or rock berm to prevent rolling down the bank and into the drink. Sounds good in theory doesn't it? |
Re: RCP Compound
The constant buffet of fish was what caused the final destruction of my fish pond. I had several 16"+ koi and a blue herring was getting so use to my pond that I could go out on the back porch and he would still not move!! And they are normally taking flight if you get within 100 yards!! Somehow he was able to get those big fish out of water and just leave them to die in grass!! Ohh I was so mad at that bird!! Nice way to put it was getting the Pershing tank out and loading armor pearcing rounds into him!!! Na, illegal to shoot them but he was well fed before he departed to his next buffet!! The whole project looks killer reg!!! Keep up the cool work!!!!

Re: RCP Compound
I was up on the roof today blowing out the gutters for the third time in just over a week. I don't know if it is because our summer was so hot and dry or what but the cedar trees really seem to be losing a lot of dead branches:mad:. While I was up there something made me smile and that was the view of my play area so I thought I would share.

Re: RCP Compound
you might need to put in a overlow in the pond or it will go over the tarp i had to install one in my pond it will also set water level of pond
|
Re: RCP Compound
I haven't ran the excavator since July and it shows.lol
I found an excuse to bust it out today though. It was "heaps" of fun. Well for about ten minutes. Then I got bored and went back to work... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qoveyht6ans https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HEY8Ti13ZTA |
Re: RCP Compound
Work is more exciting than play ? What's your exciting job . I busted out a bathroom today , I would have excavated over that any day ,if I got the machine out of Sandys hands ! Mike

I had a little fun this evening out in the play zone. Here's an on board tour with the Hoarder's Special and a load and haul with the Hayes HD and Bruder 574.

Digging the on board camera view, just like an operator :D New pond looks great!

Re: RCP Compound
Not really anything to do with the compound but my wife and I went to visit some friends of ours up island yesterday. We got to take a Hayes HDX off-highway logging truck for a drive! That was something neither one of thought would ever happen in our lifetimes. After a few trips around the parking lot at the shop we each took a quick drive up the road to see what it was like at speed. I must say that it drives much nicer than the Old Euc we have at home here! I have never been in any other big trucks so I can't say how it compares to anything else but it drove pretty nice. We also had a very good and patient instructor.lol Later in the day I also got a ride through town in the Hayes HD dump truck pictured. All in all it was an awesome day!
I think my wife is more of a natural... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AWoqq61WXGg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X-ZnGjrkm34 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qYp6RVUJab8 Me taking a turn... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YgxvJk8w9CU https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AilFpzO3K78 http://i1293.photobucket.com/albums/...psed4mottb.jpg http://i1293.photobucket.com/albums/...psiuvlcczm.jpg http://i1293.photobucket.com/albums/...psgkuzucnn.jpg http://i1293.photobucket.com/albums/...psqvkzr57u.jpg http://i1293.photobucket.com/albums/...psminbyljd.jpg http://i1293.photobucket.com/albums/...psrbjqrbtd.jpg http://i1293.photobucket.com/albums/...psxdbqgw3x.jpg http://i1293.photobucket.com/albums/...pstu1uc2br.jpg http://i1293.photobucket.com/albums/...pspb6o5wje.jpg This picture is for IHB Steve. http://i1293.photobucket.com/albums/...ps44wf2qyj.jpg |
Re: RCP Compound
Sandy is jealous if we ever get to the island she wants you to take her there . Me too . Looks like you had lots of fun . So when is the new model coming out after all you drove it . Mike
