Re: JBC limited NZ
Cheers for the Help Andy. I bit the bullet and with my teeth gritted i bought some from RCBitz here in the uk. Cost about £36 in the end and thats enough for 2 tank fulls.
My oil guy here at work is going to find me some equivalent hydraulic oil as i wont be paying those prices again lol. Got two 6400mAh 3S1P 30C coming from Hobbyking too and the 4200xl should be here between 5 and 11 days time..Woohoo |
Re: JBC limited NZ
nice need picts in the dirt.
i spoke to several suppliers for work and they worked out what i need, 20l bucket is a bit much, but with three hyd models it will , still last a long time. $30 from rc4wd for two tank fills is way too much. talking to a fellow dirt bike rider he suggested motor bike fork oil as its pretty close to the tellus oil and should work and you can buy it in 1 liter packs. and its cheap. cheers andy |

Re: JBC limited NZ
all right update time.
have sorted my issues with the 4200. I had a leaking pump seal, new pump sorted that. I played with the radio settings and made a complete hash of it. read the manual, did some more playing and fixed it. slowed the slue and speed the main boom drops :bounce: had a small problem bleeding the system, worked out one of the problems was I put the tank back in the wrong way around and the suction line was fitted to the return of the tank, so the rams would move , fill the tank enough to force oil into the pump then it would run dry again!!! MUPPET!!! still , im learning and wont do that again. radio is pretty easy do use now, so will play around a little more with the settings. had to test it all out so dragged the screening plant outside and had a play. http://youtu.be/71ClQVuDoD0:D |

Re: JBC limited NZ
last play for the day, a quick test of ripper 2.0 and a bit of practice swapping buckets on the quick release.
found a switch on the radio. it kills 4th valve and slows stick movement, very handy. would have saved me a lot of grief messing with the radio settings. any way video time.:D http://youtu.be/itvxOmZ6xqk |
Re: JBC limited NZ
after finishing cooking the BBQ the wife made a small suggestion " when are you going to clean up the mess you made with your excavator"
now being the conscientious bloke I am, I skipped out of doing the dishes and grabbed a beer and cleaned up the play area. heres the result.:D http://youtu.be/KH8wnOORwO8 |

Re: JBC limited NZ
It's the "mix channel" switch he's referring too, turned off will slow hyd flow to a snails pace b/c 4th valve doesn't move/remains open.
|
Re: JBC limited NZ
that's the one Joe, found it by mistake.
good for practising the bucket swaps, I need some more reading time to see if I can do something with the slew as its quite jerky and smooth small movements are quite a pain. I am wondering if a better esc and motor gear set up will fix the problem, or can it be slowed on the radio, by that I mean the acceleration of the motor. the mix channel switch seems to only affect the hydraulics , only noticed it as my sound card is controlled by the forth valve( engine revs ) but dosent seem to have any effect on the rotation. time to get the radio manual out. cheers andy |
Re: JBC limited NZ
A better esc would be best to try, one with a light to no brake.
The mix has nothing to do with your rotation. You can manipulate your rotation speed & smoothness with the use of dual rates using different values for curves & offsets, and it will help alleviate some of jerkiness, but not eliminate it. Your right/left movements on the sticks are either aileron or rudder, which is which on each side of tx depends on which mode (1-4) your transmitter is set to. |
Re: JBC limited NZ
What I did was screw the dial all the way in on the pressure relief valve then
the dial for that servo can be used to manually adjust the overall pressure/function speed from the radio (mix always off then) This also keeps sound constant- dialed up down manually with pump on or off. |
Re: JBC limited NZ
thanks guys,
engine revs , I can set max revs on the signal reversing cable ( small pot on board ) Im more focused on the rotation jerkiness ( if that's a word ), I will try joes suggestions on the radio and see how we go. if I cant get any joy out of that next will be an esc, the more play time with the radio the more confidant I am becoming at changing things up, also learnt write things down before I change too much LOL. thanks for the help cheers andy |
Re: JBC limited NZ
Andy, do you have a lot of play in your turn tabel? Because my motor gears went bad on mine causing it to be kinda jerky and then not turning at all.
David |
Re: JBC limited NZ
No. Have checked all the possible mechanical issues and everything is good, it is more of an electrical issue . The smoothness of how the motor preforms on the control side of things.
have ordered a few esc's to see if I can take out the choppyness of the brushed motor, if that dosent work maybe a brushless motor will be smoother . still have a few projects on the go so can use left over bits for other toys, and you can never have too many spare parts. |
Re: JBC limited NZ
finally got motivated and installed the light kit for the loader.
had to disassemble the loader to run all the cable's nicely out of the way ( bit of a mission) but worth it in the long run. indicators work off steering , even got them on the correct side first pop, left is left right is right.:) figured out the radio to get them switching on the aux pot at top of radio, now all I got to do is put her back together and start the digging. heres a few picts. no lights http://i1322.photobucket.com/albums/...psgk6mgjjm.jpg just the cab lights http://i1322.photobucket.com/albums/...pswjrhuvpo.jpg and flood lights http://i1322.photobucket.com/albums/...psa1qtufju.jpg also has a reversing beeper , but no volume control, that's an easy fix at a later date. http://i1322.photobucket.com/albums/...psfkbjcswv.jpg |
Re: JBC limited NZ
Looking good Andy

Re: JBC limited NZ
had a couple of quite night shifts and started thinking about the dozer, was not ever realy happy with the ripper so I made a new one.

Re: JBC limited NZ
had a bit of down time in between wife jobs, so did some earth moving of my own on a smaller scale.
next on the to do list is play with the radio and see if I can get the hydraulics to run a little smoother, mainly in the steering so its not so jerky. http://youtu.be/z0qhwy-8HZ8 |

Re: JBC limited NZ
it was time for a bit of maintenance on the junk rock truck as the swivel was sagging , the steering wasn't working too flash and the tipper set up was very sad.
I made up a new dual layer swivel joint . I made a new set up for the tipper motor and used a universal joint on the screw drive. I made a cover to protect the tipper motor. rerouted the drive motor cables under the truck and into the bottom of the cab. I also filled all the holes in the chassis of the tipper frame. as for the steering a 6rpm motor was fitted at the back of the cab and a couple of arms bolted to the right places and we have steering! I found when the bed was loaded with 20kgs it struggled to get started lifting ( may be my geometry is a little off) SO I had a brain wave and made some fake rams to fit to the tipper. They are filled with two 50mm long compression springs, so when all the way down( tipper bed) they are compressed, this gives that little bit extra and make the lift start easier. now its off to paint and back to work. new swivel joint http://i1322.photobucket.com/albums/...psv8p7ej9m.jpg full steering lock http://i1322.photobucket.com/albums/...psywsffhzr.jpg tipper 2/3rds up http://i1322.photobucket.com/albums/...psfwp15pdn.jpg and how I made the rams, once the springs are decompressed on the up lift the rod just follows the screw drive. http://i1322.photobucket.com/albums/...psatezk15h.jpg next possible plan is to put some motors in and drive the front wheels. but first its paint and put it to work. cheers andy |
Re: JBC limited NZ
Hiya Andy. Sorry for yet another question but what cab have you put on your 4200? I want to convert my machine a little so it looks like a 1/14th scale machine.
Cheers |
Re: JBC limited NZ
Hi . Its a cheap ebay special john deere excavator kids toy cab.
cheers andy |
Re: JBC limited NZ
the signal reverse lead on your 4200...did that come with the module?
|
Re: JBC limited NZ
Also did you have to fit your own plugs and how many y leads did you use?
cheers chris |
Re: JBC limited NZ
Hi.
I used two y plugs and a reversing lead. get a reversing lead with an adjustment pot that way you can control max engine rev noise. otherwise when a couple of stick movement it will be reving realy hard and dosent sound right. cheers andy |
Re: JBC limited NZ
where did you find one of them???? i been searching but i cant find one?
|
Re: JBC limited NZ
just rang the hobby shop and told them what i needed, it turnned up a couple of days later.
I find its eaiser to talk to a sales person, not everything is on the net. |
Re: JBC limited NZ
Cheers for the help Andy.. I got the same module on the way... also got a DX9 coming too..

Re: JBC limited NZ
had a little spare time so have had a go at printing up a cage for the excavator cab, not the best but a few mods and it wont look too bad.
have also installed two sabertooth drives into the rock truck and tested, steering works fantastic and tipper really good. just need a few days off to have some play time on the printer to make a new cab for the truck, have made a set of access stairs for the truck, they look OK, more practice and play time needed. cheers andy http://i1322.photobucket.com/albums/...psrtqnu1cs.jpg http://i1322.photobucket.com/albums/...ps2ihwoccs.jpg http://i1322.photobucket.com/albums/...psnjir1ojm.jpg http://i1322.photobucket.com/albums/...pszcmxzsdp.jpg cheers andy |
Re: JBC limited NZ
had some time for testing today due to bad weather.
need to swap out the tipper motor for a faster one, it lifts the load easily but too slow. https://youtu.be/43fAmasc1OU |
Re: JBC limited NZ
well , its almost winter here in New Zealand and the outside digging is not so much fun, so another project I have wanted to build has been started.
A rock crusher. I have made the crusher box out of 6mm steel and used a 10mm round bar drilled off set to make a cam, made a crusher plate and tested. hooked up a battery drill and crushes a beer bottle cap no worries. heavy duty springs at the bottom of the crushing plate give me a little movement and a bit of adjustment. It will have its own tracked drive system but will have a generator ( battery box ) to power the two conveyors and the crusher motor. I may need to use bigger flywheels but that will be an easy change. Once all functioning I will fire up the 3d printer and give it some detail, but the main concern will be function. I will also make some new crushing plates out of stainless steel which should last longer. Heres todays progress. http://i1322.photobucket.com/albums/...psfpauxjgh.jpg http://i1322.photobucket.com/albums/...psbcngegsq.jpg http://i1322.photobucket.com/albums/...psaokgsobv.jpg http://i1322.photobucket.com/albums/...psm3cvc7fx.jpg cheers andy:) |
Re: JBC limited NZ
Nice start on the crusher!
|
Re: JBC limited NZ
thanks man.
got a little more done today, still unsure which end to power the conveyor, but Im leaning towards the back end, also its getting a little high so im guessing when it comes to mounting the tracks I will have to do a bit of hacking , go a little wider to maintain the same height.. got a couple more days off so hope fully I will get the front half mocked up and second conveyor fitted up. I will get it running and then look at how I fit the track drives. heres some progress pictures http://i1322.photobucket.com/albums/...psoadrujjk.jpg http://i1322.photobucket.com/albums/...pslmtluq6w.jpg http://i1322.photobucket.com/albums/...psrqcztbax.jpg cheers andy |

and one to show size compared to excavator.

Re: JBC limited NZ
today's activities,
spent a whole lot of time achieving not a lot. ran out of slitter blades so no body panels made , so started to fit up track motors and a little tidy up of the welds. have figured out how i will do the conveyors and vibrating motor for hopper. main motor for crusher is still a little fuzzy but I have a welder. heres today's progress. http://i1322.photobucket.com/albums/...psz3mwb1s6.jpg http://i1322.photobucket.com/albums/...psmxvlbuir.jpg http://i1322.photobucket.com/albums/...pstoobkpsa.jpg cheers andy |
Re: JBC limited NZ
spent a little more time in the shed today.have the bottom conveyor all mounted up and managed to get the second conveyor almost done.
hope fully the rocks will be travelling fast enough to be thrown onto the second conveyor. need to make a few more bearing blocks and make up a mount for the winch to raise and lower the out feed conveyor. not far off testing .... todays progress http://i1322.photobucket.com/albums/...ps4ygw8urw.jpg http://i1322.photobucket.com/albums/...pskimkicta.jpg cheers andy |
Re: JBC limited NZ
I am loving this build Andy! And thanks for taking the time to share with us. Your moving along so fast, making me feel guilty for time spent on the couch!:lol: i need to get back building and your really helping to motivate me.
The transition to the second conveyor does look tricky. Definitely need some speed on the first to throw material. Could you elevate the end of the first conveyor a bit, lower the second and slip under so you have a straight drop? |
Re: JBC limited NZ
hi ya.
looked at lots of options, not too many choices due to space and height constraints. I need to make a smaller last roller on the 1st conveyor and have made the 1st roller of the outfeed conveyor 3/4 the size. It will give me about a 20mm drop , so when its up and running i will be able to adjust speed electronicaly to get the throw about right. at least thats the plan so far. LOL. cheers andy |
