Re: HillBilly Deluxe
The new slim Jim rack is a perfect fit Craig.
It's funny to hear that Claus is hoping for something from Santa? Lol I noticed something about the sweet pipes from John. For a more realistic look I carefully painted the inside of the pipes with flat black to look like exhaust soot rather than seeing the remnants of the chroming process. I'm sure it's on your to do list, just thought I'd mention it:) Very nice work, I love this truck! Mario |
Re: HillBilly Deluxe
Thanks Mario!
Just got my taillight panel in the mail today from Lynn, nice job Lynn! http://i296.photobucket.com/albums/m...tonkin/020.jpg http://i296.photobucket.com/albums/m...tonkin/022.jpg |
Re: HillBilly Deluxe
Craig, your truck's improved appearance is looking awesome! I like the thinner locker much more then the original, and Lynn did a really nice job with tail light panel. I really like his bezels. I can't wait to start finding a use for the ones I bought from him.

Re: HillBilly Deluxe
Thanks Nathan, it's coming together slowly. Funny looking back at where it started though, these Wedicos need a lot of help!

Re: HillBilly Deluxe
Been working on the truck a little bit, going 8X8 with the help of some new ScaleArt diffs and springs. Going to have to go back to the drawing board though to get the ride height where I want it. 3:1 ratio and locking diffs should head my truck in the direction I'm wanting to go. A Veroma 3 speed is the next thing coming.

Re: HillBilly Deluxe
wow, those axles and suspension should be classified as truck porn..
|
Re: HillBilly Deluxe
That's some serious metal, Craig. I'm glad your parts arrived safe and sound. The axles and rear suspension looks great. I like how the walking beams fit perfect for the tri-drive. I'm craving more photos of those axles. They sure look good in black!

Re: HillBilly Deluxe
Craig, all I can say is wow! I now fully understand why you called it hillbilly DELUXE !:D:cool:
That scale art stuff is killer look, but also killer pocket book effect:eek: Thanks for the update, looking forward to more :) Mario |
Re: HillBilly Deluxe
Thanks guys! Still looking at the front suspension, I have Wedico, Osswald and ScaleArt, none of them really please me but we'll see.

Re: HillBilly Deluxe
Really a nice truck. Don't know if this has been asked yet but what color red is that? Waiting to get my first truck, the Knight Hauler.
|
Re: HillBilly Deluxe
Thanks again everybody! The color, Wedico red, parts come from Wedico powder coated red.

Re: HillBilly Deluxe
Did some mach ups this morning. The truck is going to have more rake in it than I want but I happy with it overall as I do not want the front end any higher. Need to buy another set of wheels for the rear, the Euro fronts and knobby tires are not staying on the front, need to drill put the lug hole in my Wedico front wheels before they can be mounted on the driven axle. The rear suspension is working sweet! Yes, the headache rack, fuel tanks and sleeper are going back on. Also have some really nice mirrors from Scale Art to add.

Re: HillBilly Deluxe
I'm lovin' how it looks as a daycab! It will look great with the sleeper too.

One of the nicest wedicos out there |
Re: HillBilly Deluxe
Thanks Spudd, Nathan got me inspired and you got me started!

Re: HillBilly Deluxe
i am hopeing to get mine done soon...you gave me lots of ideas..
|
Re: HillBilly Deluxe
Craig only a suggestion but why didn't you air ride the 3rd axle, it definitely would have been cheaper? It looks real good so far. So you decided on the 3 speed from Veroma it's a good choice. Ed

That is some nice articulation on the rears, it should go just about anywhere setup like that
Awesome truck. |
Re: HillBilly Deluxe
Thanks Scott, like to see this thing start moving sometime soon!
Got something else today; http://i296.photobucket.com/albums/m...psa49a91e0.jpg http://i296.photobucket.com/albums/m...ps43a4e58e.jpg |
Re: HillBilly Deluxe
This Veroma has a neat feature that I will probably never use, the small shaft just above the output shaft is for kicking the transfer case in and out if you just want to power the rear wheels. Very cool. The ball socket on top is for shifting the three speeds.

Re: HillBilly Deluxe
That's a nice piece of hardware, Craig! You're going to have a heck of a truck, when you get it all together!

Re: HillBilly Deluxe
That truck has some awesome hardware. Going to be one mean ride when it gets rolling under it's own power. I can understand what your saying by "if I had to do it again" I do that all the time myself. But don't worry, truck is a work of art.

Re: HillBilly Deluxe
Craig,
I will be watching your build with renewed interest. It looks as though you are building anything but a toy with that drive-train. I may have to "borrow" a few of your ideas for one of my trucks. Love those black fenders! What are you planing to haul with that big truck? Them HillBillies know what truckin' is all about! Steve |
Re: HillBilly Deluxe
Thanks Steve! This build has had it's highs and lows for sure, anytime you try and do something different with a Wedico it seems troubles pop up right away!
Borrow away, that's what forums are all about. As for a load, I have been collecting 1/16 farm tractors for 25+ years so my love is there and that's what got me wanting an RC truck in the first place. After watching Nathan and his build for a while I knew I was done with Tamiya and going to Wedico, love the metal and the fact they closer match my farm tractors. I would love to have a 4WD tractor converted to RC to haul, also love some of the RC construction toys but not sure I will ever bite that bullet. |
