You have too much fun Steve!

Re: Mack M75SX
That's a nice 1 ton dually you have there, Steve. I like the direction your Mack is headed too. I have to echo what the others said. Keep the axles. They are really nice. I'd suggest you just find yourself one big and brawny gearmotor to use as the transmission. We could calculate a good ratio for you, based on tire size, motor selection, and the voltage you want to run. As long as we know the motor's RPM per volt, or Kv rating, and an idea of how fast you want this thing to go.

Re: Mack M75SX
couple weeks ago I tore the rears apart and re shimed them . I had to press a stel stop in the axle bore do to a change in direction since I machined the axle cassings  I'm useing HPI savage ring and pinion assembly that has the shaft cups for the pin and ball shafts for independant suspension . well I machined the ID bore to keep them on  not thinking the OD of the cups being close to the OD of the bearing :o . well I made my own axle shafts and eliminated the cups . So when I shimed up the diff and ran it a little the copper shims started working into the bore :o Now she'll pull like H@!! :D you can't put enough on it to stop it :D . Tonight I took a little time and mounted the oil tank and pump whille my wife helped pack up some orders to go in the mail tomorrow ;) I also started on the cylinders a couple weeks ago . I did fix the front tire issue :) just added the foams from the distorted tires I have

Re: Mack M75SX
Steve, Just think, a week today there's going to be a bunch of people layed off at the North Pole. Might be cheap labour to help you catch up with your projects.

My word what a BEAST!! Not seen anything like it before in the scale world. Nice detail with the mack logo on the hubs.

Re: Mack M75SX
I dont think anyone could imagine this turning out any better than it did! Its a scale masterpiece!
|
Re: Mack M75SX
thanks , Nick , DSM :)
well I diverged from scale a little :( once again my attempt to a telescopic cylinder failed :( (for now ) So some quick engineering and design , I'm making up a different set up to get er going with what I have laying around . still milling the rest of the parts . Yesterday built my battery box and tidied up the wiring in the evening . http://i830.photobucket.com/albums/z...r/PIC_1712.jpg http://i830.photobucket.com/albums/z...r/PIC_1713.jpg http://i830.photobucket.com/albums/z...r/PIC_1714.jpg thaks for looking |

Re: Mack M75SX
Works nice Steve! It sure has some speed behind it too!
Better make sure you tighten the lug nuts on that left rear wheel!:D:D:p |

Evel Knievel at his finest. That truck looks like she'll jump for the Grand Canyon. Got the screw drive working good now steve, lots of power. That load of coal will just about fill the fire box of my big steamer. Your having too much fun!!!!!

Re: Mack M75SX
I see what you mean about trying to keep the tires beaded.
The Beast is performing with stellor power, looking forward to slobbering over it next wkend. :D Are you using a FM or 2.4 radio? |

Truck looks really good steve-I like the way it bounces when loaded. Kinda like the real ones. Do you need me to make you some tires that will stay on the rims:D:D? Nice job.

Re: Mack M75SX
Awesome, Awesome, Awesome!! You can see the torque, bout' does a wheelie. Great job Steve! What does it weigh as it stands now, how much do you thing the load weighed? I wanna try it, can I have a turn?

Re: Mack M75SX
Steve, you hit a home run with this bad-boy! It is large, but seems like plenty of power with the two motors, and acts like a real one - carries plenty of payload. It will look so much different when painted.
Want to see it first-hand sometime. Ken |
Re: Mack M75SX
Nice job steve that is a monster with tons of power to boot.. Can't wait to see it all finished in paint..
|
Re: Mack M75SX
That looks just awesome. Slower would be more scale probably but sometimes its nice to be a little fast to get around. You need some solid tires for sure with those impressive loads!:D

Re: Mack M75SX
Man, I love the Mack M series trucks. Some of the coolest Prime Movers I have ever seen are Mack M's. Jusy massive trucks.

Re: Mack M75SX
Looks cool getting hauled by your IH heavy hauler, killer combo!

Dang Steve, you really need to buy a better camera! I know it cuts into your funds for tooling, but how are we ever going to fully appreciate the craftsmanship? :D

Re: Mack M75SX
Awesome truck and great combo! :)
For the camera, you can put it onto a bean bag (which you can make yourself) or just something that is stable and a bit off the ground, like a few books or aluminium blocks ;) , this prevents camera shake. If you then use the self timer, it will be even sharper. Also, for close shots, using the macro mode might be necessary to get sharp shots. |

Here is a few history shots from where Stevie's M75 evolved.

Re: Mack M75SX
By the looks of the Mack cab I would say that Euclid copied them as close as they could. It's like they had the same mother but different fathers.Haha.

Re: Mack M75SX
thanks Steve , I'm trying to picture in my head where that pit is  I heard the name of the co. somewhere . if you get on 209 from port carbon Pottsville head to Tamoqua Its like your driving through a trench . sometimes you can see some small drags working on the banks . all you see is the boom maybe a glimer of red/orange in the trees I've did some home excavations in those hills . 18% grade roads is the norm  I'm wandering who really made the frames for those trucks . My dad worked for a co in 60's/70's (before I came in this messed up world :p ) that dug some of the fondation work at mack for the machines to make the rear axles on those trucks .I'm going to have to make a short trip to the mack histiric center someday , you up to it Scott ?

Re: Mack M75SX
Maintenance day today :( then the barge came in with a load of coal that needed unloading ;) Altough it was just a little barge (250 ton ) I changed the motors to 65t lathe motors , what a difference :D still got some kick in her in 2nd but 1st is a nice speed for workin in a crowded area . I had some probs up loading to y tube so I up loaded to PB for now :o when uploading to y-tube finally worked the batts died in the cam
coming out of the docks :p http://i830.photobucket.com/albums/z...h_PIC_1869.jpg dumping in the stock yard http://i830.photobucket.com/albums/z...h_PIC_1870.jpg starting to get a little wear in the body now ;) http://i830.photobucket.com/albums/z...r/PIC_1874.jpg I'll get the vids on y-tube later tonight :o I gotta learn how to edit vids now :o |
