Dang.....to bad they don't just introduce Ultra Magnus and get rid of all these modern looking semi trucks! Curious about that old Marmon COE though. Looks like it would make a better Otpimus Prime then anything else I've seen so far.

that is a great pick the two together very nice... The new cab over is megatron everyone knew that but the old pete cab over is the old optimums back from the dead the new optimums is that GOOFY look new IH with 3 turn out stacks on each side. A guy over on my face book page got some picks as they were filming 2 weeks ago as they are filming on his grandfathers land they had 2 of the OP semis and one of the old OP's sitting there and one Mega outght to be a great movie I think minus the International Joker Semi..

Re: optimus prime transformers

I havent got mine yet, but i think they're going to a problem to mount with his mounting method.
The chassis rails i used (from Joe) arent quite the same height as the stock ones, they're a fraction taller. I had to grind my fuel tank mounts to fit them. If the mount for the boxes is the same, they may not fit.
And, with the C clamp style he's used, they will be in the way for mounting the headache rack. They'll raise it by several mm, which will put it past the top of the roof of the sleeper.

Re: optimus prime transformers

From some of the pics of the small tool boxes, you can take the mounting bracket off and use its 2 mounting holes to mount it directly to the frame. Even add a spacer if you wanted.

kingbob 07-20-2013 08:23 AM

Re: optimus prime transformers

Ahh I didnt notice that it looks removable. Problem solved.

1985 kenworth 07-20-2013 02:47 PM

Re: optimus prime transformers

yes like lynn said the c bracket is removable .i am removing mine and its easy to turn the c bracket around and use the holes as a guide to drill .i am mounting mine to the frame directly and eliminating the bracket altogether...i will be doing that some time today or tomorrow so i will post pics of it :)i am going to put a little slot on the holes as looking at the box the bracket is a little crooked and i want them to sit evenly

Re: optimus prime transformers

http://i1085.photobucket.com/albums/...ps9e346025.jpggot the storage box installed ,just have to put a spacer between the frame and the box like lynn suggested .it will make room to attach the headache rack and oh by the way i lowered the headache rack as it sat abit too high so now it is almost level with the bunk like it should be...its getting there:)

Well, enough about the Western Star. Back on subject...

Dwayne, you've done a great job on the truck. I like how the boxes and the headache-rack seamlessly blend together. It's really a work of art.

Re: optimus prime transformers

One thing I noticed and im not sure if I can recreate it, is that the front corners of the trailer are actually rounded. Might make things difficult to mount though, may stick with square.

1985 kenworth 08-07-2013 02:56 AM

Re: optimus prime transformers

yea i thought about that but i will leave well enough alone:eek: ...i am happy with this so far:bounce:if this was a scratch built trailer like you are doing it would be easier to do the rounded corners but this trailer is not even scale length and to do that means i would have to start all over again...and well ..i am not getting any younger...:rolleyes:hey bob are you going to do the rounded corners on your trailer?

kingbob 08-07-2013 03:35 AM

Re: optimus prime transformers

Im thinking about it. I found some quarter rounded plastic strip at the hardware store, but am pondering how to attach it and how it affects how the front end of the trailer is structurally built. Plus it might just look rubbish at that scale.

Radio Control Trucker 08-07-2013 04:59 AM

Re: optimus prime transformers

Rounded corners on the headboard of a trailer are do-able. Stuart (Old Busted Hotness) did some on his scratch built 53' dry-van.

And of course it hadnt occurred to me to bend a front piece to include the corners!

1985 kenworth 08-23-2013 02:39 AM

Re: optimus prime transformers
