Re: Logging & Construction Equipment
Looking good Lou.
I've sourced my screening drums from air filters of my 70hp Massey, for example. About 3.5 inch diameter for the inner screen, 6 inch for the outer. |

Re: Logging & Construction Equipment
I originally found you guys on youtube. Your guys work is amazing! :cool:My grandpa worked for Weyerhauser for 40 years and my dad cut timber for 22 years before the timber industry really died a couple years ago. So of course I am into all the equiptment etc growing up in southwest Washington.:D I'm going to build a t-800 kinghauler with a removable bunks and trailer and a side dump. Perhaps we get together someday.

Re: Logging & Construction Equipment
Thanks Jo..Us Courtenay Boys get together Quite often and Reg gets his occasional playing with us ..the more the merryer..If you make the island in the summer give us a holler
Neil thanks ..its good to be back on the tools and making progress almost every day..Ready to almost couple the belt together on the rear conveyor and see if that works .. Joe great tip on the sceens..I have some square mess screen in 1/4 and 5/8 im guessing ..queston you might know ...would it make much difference if the holes are round or square for pluging ..I saw some pretty slick setups on youtube ...for cleaning ..Rotory brushes along side ..Those Europeans sure are making some slick stuff these days |
Re: Logging & Construction Equipment
wow that looks good. look out gold clame hear we come. you going to try and join 2 bruder belts together? let me know how that works out.
|
Re: Logging & Construction Equipment
Thanks Mog ..Im just going to use a regular 1/16 strip of rubber and leaving the bruders as they are..well its functional and turning ok ..Using a 30 rpm servo city gear motor and that seems to be just right ..Rob tested how much current its drawing and it doing fine ..ran it for about an hour after fiddling with the tracking ..if you look closely i have adjustment on end rollers for both ends ...I use my little Poxom mini mill to make up the belt coupling and a short chunk of cable with a couple of wheel collers

Re: Logging & Construction Equipment
Conveyor belt turned out real good Lou. I really like the belt joiner and the tracking system that you made. Looks like it'll be ready for the Jan. show in Campbell river.

Re: Logging & Construction Equipment
anyone ever use a bicycle inner tube for this? i want to try it. i also found a air filter from the yard at work and tossed it in the fire pit, 2 screens were the product. free and looks like a good fit. i have several bicycle inner tubes to use. and pvc pipe galore. i am wondering if a towerpro mg995 servo continuous rotation will do the trick to spin it, or if i should use something else.

Re: Logging & Construction Equipment
Good work on the scale trommel Lou.
The conveyers have always been the hang up for me to get anywhere with building one myself.. I like your splice. ;) Did you mill slots in aluminum plate, then formed it? I have some belting, I tried to use tarp tape for the splice, but it kept stretching & loosing belt tension. I'm going to try your idea.. what thickness of plate did you use? How many ounces of gold did your father mine in his lifetime? |
Re: Logging & Construction Equipment
Joe have you thought of using baler belt splicing? I have been thinking of building and using that for belt joints. Most of that style belting joint ca be made to suite any width.

Re: Logging & Construction Equipment
Hello, I love the grapple and the thumbs on your equipment from the beginning of this thread. Very nice!. A grapple for one of my loaders and a thumb for my excavator is definitely a future addition for me.
Thanks for sharing, Eddie |

Joe ..Im guessing maybe a total of about 200 ounces..the last year he worked it they did fairly good at close to 100 but gold prices were only about $600 My brother is trying to talk me into going up next summer now that my Dad has passed on ..I did run the plant the first year ..Maybe we should give those guys a holler at the discovery channel lol Very intresting work Heres a couple more that i took when I up there working http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x...3_202709AA.jpg http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x...2_175721AA.jpg |

Re: Logging & Construction Equipment
WOW Lou that cable system worked out great! Starting to take shape now. I guess this year instead of wood pellets we'll have to take some dirt to screen for gold.
|
Re: Logging & Construction Equipment
Thanks for the photos. Very creative, you will be busy this summer. Christmas is just around the corner, maybe Santa Lou would make me something out of gold. Lol
Cheers |
Re: Logging & Construction Equipment
Thanks Rob and Greg ..Making good progress the last few weeks ..Hoping everything works well
Joe ..I managed to find my sheet metal gauge..Correction on the belt connection...21 gauge 3 conveyors working and trommel now turning as well ..Heres a few preveiw vids ..thanks for watching http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x...ps68259735.jpg http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x...ps43e65754.jpg |
Re: Logging & Construction Equipment
Thats pretty cool!!!!
|
Re: Logging & Construction Equipment
Hey Lou she's looking great. What voltage are you running on the Bruder conveyors, looks a lot faster than mine. Probable better thou as the belt won't clog up.
|
Re: Logging & Construction Equipment
Nifty!
What is & where did you get the motor drives for the Bruder conveyers? Is the battery that's running the end conveyer getting low on charge? I'm thinking your trommel rpm should be faster too. |
Re: Logging & Construction Equipment
Looks like you will have dirt going in all directions Lou. Looks like it is time to start GOLD MINNING with models. Then they could start to pay for themselfs...

Re: Logging & Construction Equipment
thats cool gold rush here ya come lol
|
Re: Logging & Construction Equipment
Thanks everyone..Im kinda likin how its turning out ...Havent worked on it much threw the holidays but will get hard at er soon ..Rob in running a 13.5 volt converter ..running a bit fast on the bruders..Joe the gear motors came from rob ..He found them at https://solarbotics.com/catalog/moto...s/gear-motors/ Very cheap and easy installation ..took about an hour ..Im going to see how everything works with gravel or dirt going through the plant before i make any changes for speed on everthing ..so far almost every thing came from my parts boxes and havent had to spend too much $..Lol

Re: Logging & Construction Equipment
Back to work on the trommel..Less then a month before our next show so pitter patter..Fly at err

Looks great Lou .. Keep it up .. Another great build to watch progress
|
Re: Logging & Construction Equipment
Looks good Lou,
A lot more detail than mine, where did you get the infeed and out feed belts from? Paul |
Re: Logging & Construction Equipment
Thank you Aron ,Jason and Paul ..Paul the Belt was sourced at a recycling junk yard ..Not sure where it s original use was for ..I had a heavier belt with the rubber pockets that was too heavy so i cut the pockets or should i say kleats off and glued them on the belt ..5 different glues and this one seem to be holding ok ..I did rip one off testing this weekend tho..Hey Paul ..Im thinking the the belt on a treadmill may even work better if you can find one thats been junked
I have a few buggs to work out and some minor adjustments and we will see ..The bruders had to be drilled out at the end holes to tighten up the belt and speeds a touch fast but i can live with that ..I ran some gravel through and it worked ok http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x...psdd5d1eb8.jpg |
