Re: S&M construction open for bizz nizz!
Hmmmm, I'm still thinking baby steps Mike.;)
Speaking of steps, there was 3 operators in the backyard a few days ago. First time ever! Of course I was caught up in the fun thinking " I should video this moment " but never did. Fortunately my wonderful wife took a quick vid of the action. The young guy is her son visiting from Alberta and Goose19 is running the dozer. We layed a surprising amount of dirt in a couple hours and turned out great! :D https://video-ord1-1.xx.fbcdn.net/hv...06&oe=5571B1C8 |
Re: S&M construction open for bizz nizz!
Looks like fun Mario!! The only time I was around others with these "toys" was cabin fever, I too wanted to take pics and video but totally forgot about it from enjoying everyone else around. I don't know when the last time I had a smile for two full days!! It's always fun to have others join in the fun!!
Boy that tilled garden dirt looks good,,, ;) I'd be smiling but you would probably be taking my operators privileges away for a bit!!! And I would be sending you some fresh vegetables in fall!! Lol!!! |
Re: S&M construction open for bizz nizz!
Liked the video Mario, those shingles seem to be popular!

 the last time I smiled for two days I was eating funny mushrooms:eek::lol: I know exactly how you felt at your first show. I had the same experience when I went to Indy. Awestruck for 3 days! The garden is Susans domain. I just till it, haul the soil in. Not the greatest growing season so far. Still had bad frost just a few days ago:mad: everything is slow to start and that sucks when your trying to grow " vegetables " in a short season. ;) Quote:
It's hard not to get rid of the shingles. I would like a nice hard packed gravel road someday but shingles are so cheap to use and non permanent. If you don't like where they are or need to move is no problem. i lost track of how many bundles I have. I think about 6 or 7. I go to the lumber yard and buy the damaged bundles or ones not in the package wrap ( bargain bin ). Why pay top dollar if they ain't going on a roof? |
Re: S&M construction open for bizz nizz!
GREAT layout Mario and Sue! Too bad you aren't a few miles closer so we could stop by and play.

Re: S&M construction open for bizz nizz!
ThanksTerry. i wish you guys were closer too! It's fun to run RC's but there's nothing like running as a group and the whole area comes to life:D
Speaking of coming to life. I finally got around to building the second conveyor I need. Thanks again for the belt RW. It works great! This one went together real quick. Same set up as the last conveyor or as Reg calls it, the hippy conveyor. wooden beads and metal washers for rollers , 1/8 X 1" flat bar, 1/4" threaded rod for structure. Flanged bearings, bevel gears and motor from servo city as a drive and voila another Canadian red neck conveyor! :D http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/...psh2qgvq84.jpg http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/...psnm1gvoax.jpg http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/...pskuquk67g.jpg http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/...psre1vmrxx.jpg And a video of it in action....... http://youtu.be/pXWA3WwS4WE |
Re: S&M construction open for bizz nizz!
Well, I got a chance to put some lipstick and makeup on the second conveyor. I'm real happy with the results and this will fit into my backyard perfectly. Nothing fancy but works.:)
http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/...pspeetoqat.jpg http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/...pscexozfdr.jpg http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/...pszuodpfjl.jpg http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/...pswb7ogcng.jpg http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/...psiylndmty.jpg http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/...ps9k0uqlxv.jpg http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/...psqzn2hupl.jpg And here is where the conveyor is going. Next I need to build a chute to direct the dirt onto the belt from the truck dumping platform. The angle in the pic is not right yet, too steep I think. http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/...pscjqdol10.jpg http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/...pstwhgndzz.jpg |
Re: S&M construction open for bizz nizz!
I guess I shouldn't worry about the cosmetic stuff when I haven't even tested in the yard! Lucky for me it looks like first time out is a success and no major rework required so far. Final test will be dumping an actual load with the truck.
Here's test #1.... http://youtu.be/tXRz463KRNQ |

Nice job Mario, looks like it works great!

Re: S&M construction open for bizz nizz!
Looks like S&M is going to host the first ever RC meet in the backyard park!
Just got back from a great time spent with my buddies from scale builders RC club Ontario. Turns out a few of them have the time and want to come up to my place and run in the backyard park! :bounce: So time for me to gear up and get things ready for them and make sure it's worth the trip! Here's a video tour of the plan and 4 weeks to get as much done as I can. Ideas , suggestions always welcome :) http://youtu.be/dwW6UAm4Iu4 |

Re: S&M construction open for bizz nizz!
I've come to realize there is another reason it is important I attend RC shows. It inspires and motivates me to " get stuff done! ". Once again, as soon as I get home I go into full swing working in the yard.
I'm no master carpenter and not using high quality finished wood but I think it captures the moment and theme I'm going for. :) http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/...psl8viufof.jpg http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/...psxqu6b61u.jpg http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/...ps5s0pzbcx.jpg http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/...psq1xosnff.jpg http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/...pscggzoydm.jpg http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/...psfg1baw81.jpg http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/...psdvnnxjgz.jpg |

that is a sweet set up you have there, maybe a bit of street lighting for some after hours driving?
Im also thinking CAT fuel is of a better quality than the others can provide LOL cheers andy |

Re: S&M construction open for bizz nizz!
One more vacation day left. I've had a great time pretending to be retired the last couple weeks, seen lots, did lots. The RC show re invigorated me last week and although it's smoking hot out I'm still going RC park crazy!
No real plans or drawings, just started making a building I need to use for storing all the electronics and batteries to run my processing area. I made it bigger than needed because I'm planning on using the space to carry 3 or 4 radios when it's time to play and I bring this up from the basement. The more I can carry in one trip the better! Anyway, here is today's build :) http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/...ps8napx3vb.jpg http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/...psz76klx7y.jpg http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/...pslgese6we.jpg http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/...psg6cswaua.jpg http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/...psi3zpnfnf.jpg http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/...psolb6nf9q.jpg |

Re: S&M construction open for bizz nizz!
cheers Mario,
here's another idea, how about a cheap digital scale set up to check load weights. Ive seen a few $10 bathroom scales that are begging to have the digital display ripped out, wires extended to a pole( sign) and job done. By the way I would be dead keen for a play on your site, I will flick your my address and you can post the plane ticket .....:lol::lol: This is why we have winter when you guys are playing in the sun, it feeds our imagination. I intended to build an office building to put my screener and crusher controls in behind a fake roller door so I can adjust the 6 motors. but first , I picked up a king hauler day cab in need of some love , comes with a home built tipper trailer ( not a bad job) and wedico 3 stage ram with a dx5 radio and batteries, dirt cheap. so while the weather is freezing its time to start / finish a few projects. keep the picts coming cheers andy |
Re: S&M construction open for bizz nizz!
Great minds think alike Andy!:p.
I had the same idea with a digital scale. I got the display out, extended wires so I could mount on a pole. Everything was fine until I tested the trucks on it. Most bathroom scales are rated up to 300lbs. And the trucks and trailer are not heavy enough to trigger the scale to register a weight. So plan B is I found a digital food scale on Ebay which can handle up to 50lbs. I'm hoping its sensitive enough to trigger when I drive onto it. We will see:) I added a few more details to the Cat Fuel station. Came up with a easy way to make what looks like gas nozzles and hose? Some paperclips , 16 gauge wire and shrink tubing. Simple and looks decent I think. :D One more thing I might do. I've been staring at the Cat box I have on top of the roof. I think it needs to be turning! I've got a small motor out of a rotating beacon I can use to power it up.....next rainy day project.:) http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/...psm3qoxmt7.jpg http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/...ps0a7xrnuz.jpg http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/...pssrl1jisu.jpg |
Re: S&M construction open for bizz nizz!
Thinking outside the box again! Keep it up!
Cheers, Neil. |
Re: S&M construction open for bizz nizz!
so simple but really looks the part.
nice job. |
Re: S&M construction open for bizz nizz!
Really like your compound Mario, are you leaving it outside throughout summer time then bringing it in for winter?

I'm starting to re think my control room building with batteries and ESC's . Maybe it's better if I make a small mounting plate for the esc's and RX, leave the building outside and only bring the batt and electronics in and out of the house. I tried lastnight with batteries, 4 radios in the building and its was as much fun as when I carry my 40lb excavator ( sorry, I think it weighed in at 36lbs ) up the basement stairs! I don't like the carry big box every time I want to play idea anymore.:lol: |
Re: S&M construction open for bizz nizz!
could always make a wharehouse that you can lock and if you plan on playing the next day you can leave toys out overnight
|

im anxious to try out the food scale I got coming. Cost me 50 to my door but with my luck it won't work, I'll end up spending another 150-200 for a good one and once again going cheap at first will bite me in the a** once again. |
Re: S&M construction open for bizz nizz!
Doing some quick fab and wiring tonight and got the control room wired and almost ready to go. Just need to punch a hole to run the harness through, make a harness for the conveyors and shaker. Should be up and running this weekend. :bounce::D

How can this be? A friend in BC is showing me a YouTube video of our work yard from just a couple days ago??? Then I came to my senses as the truck pulled away from the trailer and realized the trucker was taping from a Gopro. Sorry wasn't me in the scoop but as a matter of fact, im the one who rebuilt that one and its the last one I did about a year ago. It's off to Montreal to be loaded onto a C130 airplane and flying up to a mine site in the arctic. I hope I didn't leave anything loose! That's an awful long way to go on a service call!:lol: If the guy didn't edit the video, you would have seen me as I helped to shrink wrap the cab. While this was filming I was busy loading an excavator onto the Orange Kenworth you see drive by in the video. Blows my mind you showing me this video! Makes me realize, cameras can be anywhere and are everywhere! Always behave in life and always do things right....ya never know who's watching! :cop: |

Speaking of harness, I had a great idea last night. My plan was to just lay the wires on the ground behind the the work area and around to the screen and conveyor. But then my outdoor brain kicked in and thought, between the squirrels, chipmunks and mice there's a pretty good chance they might nibble on the wires so to minimize that from happening I used a lenght of some plastic plumbing tubing. The soil is wet and soft so I was able to push it through the dirt and make an instantly buried conduit I guess you could say. :) There is still exposed wire but atleast I can see if there's any eating going on.:D http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/...psxv1y4mbs.jpg http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/...psolw1v1pn.jpg http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/...ps5qsdxnst.jpg |
Re: S&M construction open for bizz nizz!
I had forgotten to show a few pics of the fuel stop with the trucks. :)

I found a more proper pail that will look the part a little better.:) |
