Re: Great Dane excavating co.
Skeeter, I am using an urethane rubber for the belt. I’ll see if I can get you part number from McMaster. It is specific for conveyors. I could get it in 4” width and x length. As far as lacing the belt, my old sewing machine. Nylon thread. But it can be heat welded. I’ve tested that but I don’t have a heat welder just heat gun and my test pieces got abit warped. It works well just need to make some heated pliers or torch clamps. It’s not know how the longevity of the belt material will hold up. On the discharge conver of the fine material I think no problem. On the input conveyor in the hopper I need to find out. That’s where rocks/sharps will be present. If not good there I’ll just use a straight roller system and other material. Reason I choose this material was overall thickness that will allow the belting to conform to “u” shaped roller assemblies[/QUOTE]
I'd be much obliged for the part number. We've got conveyer projects in teh works now. NOT for feeding trommels we'll use them for. Rather than feed trommel, we shall use them to feed shaker screen decks..................well, we hope to, if we can get everything in working order. |
Re: Great Dane excavating co.
Skeeter, McMaster part#. 1146t11. 4” wide polyurethane rubber sheet cut to order.
http://i1357.photobucket.com/albums/...psv211vo4w.jpg Received speed controllers, they went to town above me, town 60 miles south of me , back to town above me,,, got them several days late :). And have been exploring more of the cam tool paths and trying to improve surface finishes and my understanding of machineing. This is part of the controllers housing. http://i1357.photobucket.com/albums/...psnc3ohgrd.jpg http://i1357.photobucket.com/albums/...psiraiwhlc.jpg http://i1357.photobucket.com/albums/...psfkihra7e.jpg http://i1357.photobucket.com/albums/...psqhylr3nm.jpg |
Re: Great Dane excavating co.
any info on the speed controller?

Gotta love it when they play games like that with your packages. I know the feeling, sometimes mine sit 20 minutes from my place for days before they leave there to go to the warehouse that services my area. It's frustrating! |
Re: Great Dane excavating co.
Do a rectangular frame above the screw bosses then rectangular pocket with a larger diameter milling cutter just inside of the bosses, then go back and profile the bosses with smaller endmill .
|
Re: Great Dane excavating co.
On the tool paths; Start by making a rectangular FRAME above your screw bosses depth and inner wall then make a rectangular POCKET to final depth a little smaller than the bosses using a larger end mill. Go back and profile the bosses to depth with the smaller tool you desire to clean out the corner radii.

opps double posted!
didnt show up this morning ....sorry |
Re: Great Dane excavating co.
I understand what you said Steve, thank you. So many things to remember and to keep in mind. I also found out I can drive tool paths off of a sketch. Say I wanted a point in middle and to radiate outward/ inward. Cam will recognize part and not violate part but drive paths according. This is like endless learning!!! And to think that I can honestly say I have never read a book!! Well at least cover to cover an not skipping pages, chapters,,, lol!! Although I have got to get a machinist book,,,,
I also decided to cut up the remainder of an old treadmill belt I had. I'm just not happy with the polyurethane rubber. It being so thin, good to conform to roller assemblies, but it also wants to curl up and flip onto itself at end roller/drive roller. (Sometimes). It's .03" thick, non backed. Wish I could find single ply treadmill belting 4" wide and a roll 10'. Normally called a walking belt being single ply. Then I would not have to try and cut a straight line 10' long. Always little tweaks and suprizes popping up. Trying to make this thing idiot proof!! Lol!!! |
Re: Great Dane excavating co.
Oh and drive/free rollers have vertical sidewalls about .35" and a small taper at top to help belt track. Although I could put some super thin Teflon tape around free roller to help it slide(to keep centered) the drive roller is knurled for grip.

Re: Great Dane excavating co.
RW I have the tool to splice the urethane belts together. It' basically a soldering iron with a flat plate.
https://imageshack.com/a/img924/2678/XrVBWR.jpg I have some thin rubber with cloth conveyor belting that I got a piece from McMaster that is 1/16'' thick . It looked good so I ordered a few feet from a company here in Pittsburgh called Conviber. I plan on using the Clipper type lacing to join it together. |

Re: Great Dane excavating co.
Works nicely. Maybe we can feed the crushed limestone through it from my crusher.
I almost stopped in yesterday but customer was 2hrs late meeting me at the Columbia Mall. He got a DOT check coming into PA around Scranton. After the delay I needed to get over to my camp near Punxy before dark to fix some roof leaks on one of my sea containers. |
Re: Great Dane excavating co.
Anytime steve,, your always welcome,
I figured this would be a good addition to your crusher. We will find therocks and crush them into road base |

Warning, not what you are expecting,,, I was getting things around for the upcoming cabin fever eco and the malderbeast decided to add some “dead” weight to help test to make sure everything was working correctly,,,,, |

I really like that cat! Mine would have leapt out of the truck as soon as I tried to move it!

What a cat!!! LMAO!! Not a care in the world....just don't back over my tail!!!:D

Re: Great Dane excavating co.
That cat couldn't care less!

Re: Great Dane excavating co.
I like the cat video-do you have any video of your trommel working at Cabin Fever? Surely at this fantastic event someone has more video than what has been posted.

I’m making a valve body that will allow use of m5x6mm hose fittings. The valve body is shown above, I still need to grind and lap the surface. Been wanting this for the projects that require more flow. The permacon valve ports are .063” and I’m making these .125” basically doubled the flow (I know for those that are hydro dynamics the flow is not exactly doubled but will be a considerable increase. ). And for those that wanted to see some videos of the trommel working at the last event, cabin fever, my weekend was cut short due to bad weather. I had things in place to be handled but with the amount of snow and then rain, and everything freezing I had to take care of business. So if anyone does have video of the event , by all means share :). I had a great time and Sunday was the day I was planning on taking the time to get some pics and videos. And for those new faces , happy to have met you and for those that I didn’t I’ll be looking forward to a time I do. |

The math works out to nearly 4x (3.69) the volume increase of 0.065 to 0.125 Martin Meinhardt (the original maker of the rotary valves that Premacon copied) does offer a larger valve, though I don't know how much larger. Fumotec could get it for you. I could nail the info for you, if you want? Carry on with your version, it'll be exciting to see you accomplish this too. ;) |
Re: Great Dane excavating co.
Thanks joe, you know me, I'm always doing the things the hard way, look at it, study it, think about it, build it, then realize why it doesn't work, then read some info pertaining to it, then figure out how to make it work. :).
The hard part for me is trying to figure out how to machine it , keeping in mind mating surfaces and allowing for surfaceing. (Also with dimensions of applicable materials that I have or easily obtain. Trying to keep my tollarances of +\- .001. That's on the radial side of things. Axial sides should a lapped surface. As far as flow increase, the fittings are still less than .125". But larger than the 4mm hose fittings. I didn't take exact measurements of them but that will be the smallest diameter that oil passes. That's why I just redneck engineered (eyeballed) my non existent math ;). And similar to original valve all mating surfaces get an o ring for sealing. The valve and valve housing is where I need to get a tight fit. I plan on making the rotary valve part one piece, nesting it inside the housing and then surface grinding. Probably going to use the parts against each other to achieve a lapped fit. (Only for the top of rotary valve and valve housing. Then flip them into a fixture and surface both parts to achieve exact same heights. At least it looks that way from the back of my eyelids ;). |

http://i1357.photobucket.com/albums/...pswqmbw2dj.jpg http://i1357.photobucket.com/albums/...pspedgm2tt.jpg Still need to cut the outside profile. This part Cost me a 1/16” endmill, not sure why it broke but some tweaking and still cutting other parts without breakage. I’ve realized a good start is to check run out on the smaller end mills. Got it down to less than .0002”. At least that’s as close as my eyes can read a .0005” indicator. Again this hobby has become an endless pit of learning. Sometimes it’s fun other times it’s rum-n-coke time to make it fun!! ;). |
Re: Great Dane excavating co.
http://i1357.photobucket.com/albums/...psmnywgq58.jpg
Forgot one. Since I’ve been (semi) accurately measuring tools my tollarances have increased and re-machineing has decreased. First try nailed the .752” diameter I was shooting for. This I.d. Is milled so not a 100% round hole but doesn’t need to be. Some clearance for rotary valve to rotate. |
Re: Great Dane excavating co.
Is that ground flat stock on that plate with the O rings?
|
Re: Great Dane excavating co.
It started as ground stock, I purchased ground stock because of size. First pic is machined finish, second one is stock face and third pic was after I finished it. Still need to lap it.

Re: Great Dane excavating co.
RW, how did they conveyor belts do at the show? How many hours were places upon them? Were there any issues withe the 3D printed belt supports, or the rollers?
|
Re: Great Dane excavating co.
I had to leave early from the show but it ran almost non stop Friday, some Thursday and some Saturday morning. No issues. The printed belt supports were proven to run without issues from an older conveyor I had. Haven’t had one wear out yet. But if they do I would assume the supports would go first, acetal rollers with brass shafts. The side rollers nest up against the abs printed supports. That’s where contact mostly is. And that’s where the wear would occur.

Re: Great Dane excavating co.
I was able to start a new project, removing the flower beds along house and replacing with pavers. Brought the excavator in first to remove the larger root balls and to loosen up soil for load out and hauling away.

Re: Great Dane excavating co.
http://i1357.photobucket.com/albums/...psgejvy48g.jpg
This is the worksite. Raised flowerbeds along house walls are being removed. The small slab of concrete will be removed also. Im going to dig a ditch underneath of that concrete (along that wall to install rain gutter drain. And then pavers will be laid up to house walls. The paver bricks that are down now are being pulled and re-leveled. So this may keep the company afloat for spring and into summer :). http://i1357.photobucket.com/albums/...psbquoaxkz.jpg http://i1357.photobucket.com/albums/...psb0oc2vfu.jpg http://i1357.photobucket.com/albums/...pssnih4cdd.jpg http://i1357.photobucket.com/albums/...psvczfir5k.jpg |

Oh and I don't have a clue about the pic size, so for now (just another thing to figure out) I'm just letting it ride ;).
|
Re: Great Dane excavating co.
I'm talking with some one at photobucket currently to see if preset pic size outgoing links option is coming back or not... I started a $50/yr subscription with them in January... if that one particular option is never available again, then I'll be cancelling.
I have been using this 3rd host when the photobucket blackout had occurred... totally free & simple to use... can be a lil confusing when uploading several pics as the pics & links do not pair together... you'll see what I mean if you try it. I've been using Windows Live Movie Maker for years to edit videos, pretty simple to use without too to many excessive options to pick from. It came preloaded on my laptop. |

Great show buddy, thank you
Hyd speed looks adequate, plenty of push power too... I was surprised to see how slowly the driveshaft turns. Next up the rotatory screener... when you get a chance :D |
Re: Great Dane excavating co.
It’s been a little bit since I have been able to sit down and do a little rc and relaxing!! Have been busy with work, spring is always a busy time , and I have been busy on redoing the back porch. Found an old septic tank during demo on small concrete porch. 3 by 5’ slab so just hand pounding with sledge and prybar. Was stoped by hearing a splash,, odd,, found out I was beating on top of an old 10’ wide by 15’ deep septic tank that had an old slate lid covering the 10’ span. Partly under foundation of addition that had knob n tune wires, so to say old. Then the old hand well. I got 28 ton of stone and only about six skid steer buckets left!! Would have loved to use the rc equipment but didn’t want to have a 15’ and 30’ hole open for any more time than needed. And rain has been constant this year but I’m finally to a point I am starting to get some time, and need a few hours sitting and relaxing with the rc stuff. So hopefully I’ll get some more videos soon. !!!
