Made some progress... Mounted hydraulic pump, valve block, speed control, battery tray, trans shift servo and cooling fan.

I was waiting on a 1/8" nut driver. I need to bolt em' on, as soon as I get back home Sunday night I'll post a picture. Just the mock-up I did looks pretty good.

Well...here's where I am....

I discovered the fan was too big once I put the rest of the goodies inside, so I'll have to find a thinner one to put in it's place. The steering is a bit slow, I guess if I switch to the 2mm hose instead of the 2.5mm hose it should speed it up a bit. Now working on the steps and railings, then on to the blade.

runs well Ben . looks like those couple sleepless nights figuring out how to make them paid off :bounce: I just wish I had made that bolt circle wider :o:(

Very cool, Ben. Runs really smooth as well. Those planetary axles are pretty nice! I like the Scale Art 963B also.

Re: Snochaser's Construction Co. Builds

Really nice build! Must be a heck of a feeling seeing something you built completely from scratch rolling under it's own power, it's taking me forever to get there with a kit!

Those axles and wheels really make the build!

Re: Snochaser's Construction Co. Builds

Thanks guys, it does feel cool to have it moving! Steve did one heck of a job on the wheels, there are hubs that I haven't put on yet that really make them pop! I've been trying to upload a much clearer video for the past day and it wont upload to PB. I'm gonna keep plugging away at it, need to get s'more brass though. The weight is adding up, I'll try to weigh it in the near future.

smashing build! Was the vid of it in low or high ratio? I've just ordered an R2 2 speed off RC4WD for my build,(standard loader) nice economical gearbox and spares available for it too! What ESC are you using if you dont mind me asking?

looking forward to seeing it in some paint -I imagine it will only add to it's awesome scale appearance!

Any photos of how you mounted the hydros and battery, etc.?

Re: Snochaser's Construction Co. Builds

The video is high quality and a little over 2-mins. long.
I'm using a Sabertooth ESC, it's controlling the pump and drive motor.

Here are a few more picture since I completed the cat-walk railings and a couple under the hood of some of the mechanics.

Ben - try uploading to youtube. Accepts HD and longer videos way easier... I don't even bother trying to upload videos to PB never works for me.... Just a thought!

Wow, that's a one of a kind machine! Such a well thought out platform too. Everything fits perfect, like it's meant to be. No doubt you had it all in your head as you started building it! Very clean work.

Very nice work Ben! It looks and runs great.

The gearing seems spot on.

Nice work on the wheels Steve the look great too.

Re: Snochaser's Construction Co. Builds

Really awesome build so far! Looking forward to its completion and seeing some videos. I imagine this is an 'outside only' use machine with those wheels (well at least here on hardwood floors and the SO around). :D Quick questions:

What thickness of brass did you use for the frame parts?

Did you soft solder or silver solder it?
(I saw someone ask earlier but couldnt find the answer)

Are the wheels made up as rings with spacers? Are they bolted together or
welded or glued?

Thanks

"Are the wheels made up as rings with spacers? Are they bolted together or

generally , 5 pieces bolted together . but a lot more went into it then just that . it would've been too time consuming to weld every foot on each wheel :jaw:

Snochaser 05-07-2013 06:29 PM

Re: Snochaser's Construction Co. Builds

16g brass. Silver solder.

For some dumb reason, I have missed this thread . Ben you have out done yourself this time :D The video looks great as does the entire model. My only very small complaint is: why didn't you use brass for the entire body?? You were so close!! No, all kidding aside, between you and Steve- the wheels- this is one outstanding vehicle. Can't wait to see it completed! Indy, maybe????

Re: Snochaser's Construction Co. Builds

I'm trying to get the steering cylinders to cycle faster, do I increase pressure in the pump? I'm not sure what pressure I'm running currently. Ideas???...

Espeefan 08-11-2013 09:10 PM

Re: Snochaser's Construction Co. Builds

Larger lines going to the cylinders, smaller diameter steering cylinders, or turning up the pressure on the pump would be the only ways I know to speed the steering up. That or run the pump faster. More voltage, though I don't know how much more you could run before you compromise the reliability or longevity of the pump. You could consider upgrading the pump motor to the brushless motor that Leimbach offers. I know that motor spins faster then the brushed motor.

doodlebug 08-11-2013 10:02 PM

Re: Snochaser's Construction Co. Builds

More pump volume, pressure has to do with how much load is placed against the pump.
Cheer's, Neil.

Snochaser 08-11-2013 10:10 PM

Re: Snochaser's Construction Co. Builds

Ok. I'm already using the largest line I have, 2.5 I believe. I've thought of the bigger lines, I guess higher moor speed would help in crease the volume I need.

Thanks guys, I will have to look into the brushless option Nate. Do you have a link?

Ben
